Weapon Proficiencies: An Champion of Pain and Fear gains no proficiency in weapons and becomes proficient with light armor if not already.

Spells per Day/Spells Known: A Champion of Pain and Fear continues advancing in their spellcasting ability as they progress through this class. Thus, when a new Champion of Pain and Fear level is gained (except for 1st and 6th levels), the character gains new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if she had gained a level in the a spellcasting class to which she belonged before adding the prestige class level. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (improved chance of controlling or rebuking undead, greater damage with the smite evil ability, bonus feats, and so on). If the character had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a Champion of Pain and Fear, the player must decide to which class to add each Champion of Pain and Fear level for the purposes of determining spells per day and spells known.

Armored Mage: (Ex) At first level the Champion of Pain and Fear can cast arcane spells without spell failure while wearing light armor and light shields.

Improved Blade: (Su) At 1st, 3rd, 6th, and 9th level the Champion of Pain and Fear can improve the spell "Blade of Pain and Fear". He can select one of the bonuses below. These bonuses only apply when the Champion has the spell "Blade of Pain and Fear" active.

Blade Improvements

Forceful Blade: The Champion adds his primary caster modifier to damage rolls whenever he uses the Blade of Pain and Fear.

Swift Blade: The Champion adds his primary caster modifier to attack rolls whenever he uses the Blade of Pain and Fear.

Dreadful Blade: The Champion may make a demoralization attempt as a free action at any target hit by the Blade of Pain and Fear. An individual can only have one demoralization attempt made on him each round.

Parrying Blade: The Champion adds his primary caster modifier to his armor class as a deflection bonus.

Grasp of Fear: The Blade of Pain and Fear's touch attacks now have 10ft reach.

Rooting Fear: Whenever the Champion fears a target with the blade of pain and fear the target cowers for the duration instead of fleeing.

Painful Fear: Whenever the Champion successfully fears a target each round at the start of the target's turn they are feared they take damage equal to the Champion's primary caster modifier.

Enhanced Blade: (Su) At second level the cast time of Blade of Pain and Fear is reduced to a move action and the duration is increased to 1 minute/ caster level.

Vampiric Blade: (Su At third level whenever the Champion of Pain and Fear hits a target with a Blade of Pain and Fear he heals 1d6 + class level.

Spell Blade: (Su) At level four the Champion of Pain and Fear can make a special attack with his Blade of Pain and fear as a standard action. The Champion expends a touch spell they have available and if the attack hits than the target is also affected by the touch spell. If the target fails the will save against the Blade of Pain and Fear's fear affect he takes a -3 penalty on the save against the channeled spell and the spell ignores spell resistance. This ability can be used two times per encounter.

Superior Blade: (Su) At 5th level the cast time of Blade of Pain and Fear is reduced to a swift action and the duration is increased to 10 minutes/ caster level.

Incarnation of Terror: (Su) At level 6 whenever a target who is immune to fear is hit by your Blade of Pain and Fear he still needs to make a will save. If he fails he is only frightened for one round instead of the normal effect. In addition the DC for your Blade of Pain and Fear increases by two.

Share Pain: (Su) Whenever an enemy damages a 7th level Champion of Pain and Fear the enemy takes 1d6 damage + 1 per class level. A will save (DC 10+1/2 Class level + primary casting modifier) negates this damage.

You Can Never Escape: (Sp) As a swift action an 8th level Champion of Pain and Fear can teleport to any target within medium range that is cowering or frightened by his Blade of Pain and Fear.

Blade of Black Fire: (Sp) Once per encounter the Champion of Pain and Fear can make one attack made with his Blade of Pain and Fear and if it hits the target explodes and is burned by draining flames. These flames act like the spell Blackfire (SpC) with a caster level equal to the Champion's caster level. If the attack misses this ability is wasted for the encounter The Champion of Pain and Fear is immune to these flames and they only spread to enemies. The save DC is 18 + primary casting modifier.

Inner Blade: (Su) At tenth level the Champion of Pain and Fear becomes a true Incarnation of Fear. His type becomes Outsider (Native) and he gains + 2 Dexterity, + 2 Constitution, + 4 to his primary caster ability score and + 2 to his other mental attributes. In addition his Blade of Pain and Fear have no duration and can be summoned and dismissed as a free action.

Heh, actually I just just Nightmare's picture. I didn't base this off of nightmare and really just tried to make it a gish prestige class for my favorite spell. Nightmare's blade just looks like how a Blade of Pain and Fear should look like.

Yes! More Silva Stormrage evil class goodness!

Once again thank you for your support on my classes .

Does anyone have any comments on the power level of this class? I wasn't sure if I did a good job balancing the three caster levels lost by this class (1 level dip for proficiencies and two levels without increase in caster level)

For a "blade" user, needing Weapon Focus (Melee Touch Attack) is rather strange ><

I know, both prerequisites are flavoured, but they are rather weak (maybe even considered some of the worst feats ever ><).

The spells cast/proficiencies needed make it available at level 7, while the skills prerequisites are met at level 5 (so skill entry at level 6). That will make the PrC available at level 6 in a gestalt game, or 7 in a standard game. Intended?

BoFaP is a touch attack, though...

And you can get in at 6th level normally; the Militia regional feat gives proficiency in every martial weapon.

Additionally, you could play it with a Wizard 5/Class with Martial Weapon Proficiency 1/Champion of Fear and Pain 10...

Or, even better, a Cleric 5/Swordsage 1/Champion of Fear and Pain 10 for some fun.

The weapon focus (Melee Touch) is just how the spell works... Technically the spell just gives you the ability to make melee touch attacks that cause damage and fear etc etc. So mechanically you need to have that weapon focus >.>. And skill focus intimidate is decent ESPECIALLY if you get imperious command.

You have a point on the prerequisites though, it has problem with needing to cast a 3rd level spell (Blade of pain and fear). I will think about trying to fix that. Maybe it will just grant Blade of Pain and Fear as a second level spell and make it so that you only need 2nd level spells.

But.. but...

With a feat, Sorcerers and Favored Souls can get in! And your Cleric, Archivist, or Wizard can just either take that feat or dip in something sexy like Warblade!

Yeah, the prerequisites are honestly completely fine. This class isn't hard to get into by any means.

One thing I find lacking is the damage on the Blade of Pain and Fear, and other than adding Int, Wis, or Cha to it, 1d6 + Int + 1/2 caster level (if you take the appropriate improvement) is still not very much at all. I would have liked to see some extra dice on that puppy!

It can also get painful fear if you really want some extra damage. So that adds mental ability modifier * 1d4. Also you can power attack A LOT with this weapon. Considering classes like cleric can get a bonus equal to wisdom * 2 for a touch attack. If they get intuitive attack.
