So after my last session (Pathfinder) I gave the character sheet to the DM (He wants them all kept in the same place so we don't loose them) but lo and behold he has forgotten to take care of it, and it was cleaned up by his mother. So I get to make a new character, (Or at least plan one out) I had a lot of fun using Shillelagh with my Druid to bash some mooks and whatnot. So I kind of want to use a Quarterstaff based character. Now Monk is the first thought but monks were always so-so in 3.5, so I'm not expecting them to do much better now, Especially what with me using a Quarterstaff over Unarmed. Next thought was Fighter, but again seemingly so-so. Then I thought Ranger, and eventually ended up on Rogue, it will give everything I want agility and skills, as well as decent damage, Sneak Attack. So thoughts on that? Also I'm gonna magic the item up a bit, why use a Quarterstaff when you can have a Shillelagh. Now if I've done my math right (and I'm almost certain I have) A Masterwork Quarterstaff with a Use-Activated/Continuous Shillelagh costs 4300Gp.
Spell Level(1) x Caster Level(1) x2000 x2(Duration based on 1 minute per level)+300 (Masterwork)
Lastly other than being effectively a rip-off of Sun Wukong, anything wrong with being a Vanara for Race? It's either that or Human (Feats are nice)

TLDR: Summary
1: Pathfinder Monk, Useable?
2: Quarterstaff wielding Rogue Playable?
3. Cost for a Continuous Shillelagh Quarterstaff 4300Gp?
4. Vanara or Human, Fluff over Feat?

There's a magus archetype that specializes in wielding a staff, and gets some nifty bonuses out of doing so.

Not until mid-levels though. OP, What level are you?

Magus 1 is a quick way to get Quaterstaff Master (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/quarterstaff-master-combat) early, and by skipping the normal requirements (Weapon Focus, Bab 5)

Pathfinder monk is actually quite usable, as long as you use the proper archetypes. The two you really want are Hungry Ghost and Qinngong Monk.

Hungry Ghost (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/monk/archetypes/paizo---monk-archetypes/hungry-ghost-monk), Qinggong (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/monk/archetypes/paizo---monk-archetypes/qinggong-monk) monk. Trade Tongue of the Sun and Moon (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/monk#TOC-Tongue-of-the-Sun-and-Moon-Ex-) for Cold Ice Strike (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/c/cold-ice-strike), trade High Jump (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/monk#TOC-High-Jump-Ex-) for Gaseous Form (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/g/gaseous-form), take the Dimensional feats on the PFSRD up to Dimensional Dervish (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/dimensional-dervish), grab the Spider Step (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/spider-step) and Cloud Step (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/cloud-step) feats, get a keen guided (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/magic-weapons/magic-weapons-non-core/weapon-property---guided) weapon. Pick up a few style feats, such as Dragon (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/dragon-style-combat) or Crane (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/crane-wing-combat) style.

Guided adds Wis to damage and to hit in place of Str, Dimensional Dervish allows you to move + full attack, Spider Step allows you to run across water or up walls, cloud Step allows you to run across the air, Gaseous Form lets you go through walls, Restoration is always useful, Cold Ice Strike is a swift action 15d6 attack, Hungry Ghost allows you to regain ki on a crit or kill. Be human.

This is typically the best arrangement of monk abilities.

I'm Level 8, and the party already has a Magus. Nasty thing, he did Duskblade in 3.5 and Magus now.

... I'm regarded as of at least slightly above standard intelligence among my party, but what in the world is that. I can't even follow that. There was just this bunch of words, and then something about a Guided Dragon Crane that can teleport and breathe icy shards. I'm scared.

In all honesty and seriousness, can you dumb that down for me? Or at least provide the sparks notes? I'm new to Pathfinder and this stuff is not 3.5 conversion for the most part. Also the character is Lv 8.

:smallamused:
Alright, here's the list cleaned up. Also, this is all pathfinder material. No 3.5 at all.

(Hungry Ghost (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/monk/archetypes/paizo---monk-archetypes/hungry-ghost-monk), Qinggong (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/monk/archetypes/paizo---monk-archetypes/qinggong-monk)) Monk. Qinngong and Hungry Ghost are monk archetypes that significantly improve the class.

Qinngong monk allows you to trade some crappy monk abilities for much better, ki based abilities. Since your ki pool is finite, you have Hungry Ghost, which allows you to replenish your ki while fighting.

You will trade High Jump (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/monk#TOC-High-Jump-Ex-) for Gaseous Form (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/g/gaseous-form), since being able to phase through walls is much more useful than being able to jump 5 feet higher.

You'll trade Tongue of the Sun and Moon (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/monk#TOC-Tongue-of-the-Sun-and-Moon-Ex-) for Cold Ice Strike (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/c/cold-ice-strike), for better action economy at high levels.

You'll want to grab the Dimensional Dervish (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/dimensional-dervish) chain of feats so you can move and full attack.

Spider Step (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/spider-step) and Cloud Step (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/cloud-step) are two feats which you may wish to grab, for greater out-of-combat mobility. Note that you can replace the two of them with a cape of flying if you don't mind being dependent on magic items.

The guided (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/magic-weapons/magic-weapons-non-core/weapon-property---guided) enchantment allows you to use your Wis to hit and damage in place of strength, reducing your MAD.

The Dragon (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/dragon-style-combat) and Crane (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/crane-wing-combat) style feats give you nice passive bonuses, but you can only have one of them on at a time, so it might be best to just grab one set.

Hope that is clearer.
