Is this a typo? The flavor text seems counter indicative of it's effect.
If two aren't connected you're essentially immune to piercing weapons?

It blocks piercing weapons. Damage from piercing weapons is reduced by 5. Slashing and bludgeoning weapons deal full damage.

"DR 5/bludgeoning or slashing" means you take 5 less damage from any weapon that isn't bludgeoning or slashing (so you take 5 less damage from piercing weapons).

Yora's right. The material that comes after the slash indicates what materials overcome the damage reduction. So spearblock only protects against piercing weapons, hammerblock only protects against bludgeoning weapons and axeblock only protects against slashing weapons.
