View Full Version : [PF] Synthesist's Eidolon and 0 HP (is it impossible to resummon it per RAW?)

What exactly happens when your temporary HP reach 0?
It says your Eidolon is send back to its home plane (When these hit points reach 0, the Eidolon is sent back to its home plane), but nothing does indicate that it dies:

A summoned creature also goes away if it is killed or if its hit points drop to 0 or lower, but it is not really dead.

The bold part does indicate that being dismissed at 0 is not the same as "being killed" for a summoned monster and there is actually no reason i can see for it to be.

With a normal Eidolon that is not a problem, since it is only send back when it is "reduced to a number of negative hit points equal to or greater than their Constitution score", which also gives it the dead condition (the moment it is send back and then not dead again, but that doesn't matter, it got slain and then send back).

When summoned in this way, the Eidolon hit points are unchanged from the last time it was dismissed or banished. The only exception to this is if the Eidolon was slain, in which case it returns with half its normal hit points.

So, if I understand that correctly, the Eidolon now is send back to it's home plane and not killed, meaning it gets resummoned with 0 HP (since it is summoned with exactly the same HP as when it was send away) and instantly send away again, making it impossible to summon it (without the help of Purified Calling, which can't be intended).

Well, if you summon it, you can get your friend to make an AoO on it the instant it appears, dropping it below 0. Any other damage-dealing interrupt works too.

Well, he would still need to deal around 13 DMG (to get it to -con hp), far from impossible, but hard at low levels.

just resummon it repeatedly. get a few more friends if you need to.

That brings up the question: can you even attack in that narrow window?
After all you can only attack the summoner with the eidolons hp as temp hp.
So assuming the Eidolon would be there was an instant, would that give some kind of negative temp hp?
And if such a thing exists (I can't believe that it does), could you kill yourself with summoning? For example if you only have 1 hp left and 7 con while the eidolon is at -12 with 13 con.

Thus readied actions don't work.

Have your party healer ready an action to heal it as it pops in?

Works only if he is a Summoner or UMDs a wand of rejuvenate eidolon (you can't normaly heal temporary hp and can't target the eidolon as a creature, rejuvenate eidolon was allowed in an FAQ as an exception).

Summoners would probably carry such a wand, and it's difficult to imagine a group that doesn't have a UMDer in the mix somewhere...
