Here's what we know
1. He have a high endurance points.
2. Judging by the cover, he was an army officer or house samurai (different uniform than other soldiers)
3. Sole Survivor of an attack (Hobgoblins' Shadows)

You know your avatar doesn't show up correctly, right? It is too big.

I'm not sure how much we can necessarily tell about the story from the cover. See SoD as an example...

You may want to elaborate on that statement for those who have either never read SoD (more's the pity, it sounds like an excellent read) or those who haven't read spoilers that explain your statement.

We also know charisma is his dump stat and he was a fighter before being a paladin, likely this story will be about how he became a paladin

I'd love to see an alternate side's opinion on the Azurite-goblin crusades. Of course what we've seen so far has been through the eyes of Redcloak: I'm not saying that it didn't happen, but it's obviously not the whole picture.

It's not only about O Chul. Maybe we could see Hinjo's mother before she died (or she may die from giving birth to Hinjo) and the deadly decadent court of Azure City.

The Giant has confirmed this much; no speculation required.

Yes, it's the story of how he became a paladin AND how he got his scar. They're closely related.

It also will feature Miko, Hinjo, and Lord Shojo in major supporting roles, and probably cameos by some of the other Azurites. But it's definitely O-Chul's story, not a general Azurite history.

I read... somewhere about him going to an island alone. Giant quote somewhere... *goes to check the superdeliciously-awesome compilation thread, which is awesome*

I have no idea what island that would be, so I think you're remembering something wrong. :smallconfused:

The Start of Darkness cover depicts Xykon, the lich Xykon from the online comic, killing a paladin.

The closest thing to that scene in the actual book features Xykon the living sorcerer, well before he becomes a lich. At the end of the book, the creature in the darkness comments that the scene on the cover didn't actually happen the way it's depicted on the cover, and one of the demon roaches shrugs "That's show biz."

So, I guess this finally sinks my pet theory that he's one and the same as the PseudO-Chul first seen here (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0290.html), and just picked up his scar off-panel during the 300s.

Nice that we'll be seeing Shojo again, and yes, Miko too.

Yes, I was just now thinking that that was being ruled out myself.

The only island I can remember is the tiny, rainy island that O'Chul and Lien were on in one panel, where the rain helped O'Chul sleep (and kept Lien awake).

But I think that was after his escape from Xykon, not before.

Does Azurites have ranks based on Armor since O Chul's armor is different from dead soldier's armor?

Only if she died and was raised, since the Azurite woman on the cover is dead as a doornail. :smallamused:

No she isn't. He's talking about the background outline, not the center picture.

He is wearing traditional Samurai armor.

So we'll find out other noble houses other than Kubota and Katos.

The only Azure City nobles we actually know the names for are the Katos and Kubota, and the former haven't been ennobled yet. So unless O-Chul was a retainer to Kubota, this suggests he was in service to a noble family we haven't heard of yet.

The real question is: Will there be a follow-up, titled How the Paladin Got His Scarf (http://images8.cpcache.com/product/490237948v1_350x350_Front.jpg)?

...Sorry about that.
