In a week or so (if all goes well) I will be starting a pure Pathfinder (with allowances) game. The group will be painfully new, (most of them have never even picked up a D20 before) so i need to insure my character is suboptimal eough to allow them to shine.

As such, i struck upon to straight fighter, with archetypes. My current scheme is to be primarily archery based, but with a capability to do finesse based Dervish Dance scimitar fighting (einhander of course, but onl for flavor). Aside from the necessary feats (deadly aim, weapon finesse, dervish dance), what feats and archetypes would you suggest? (as a side not, i know this will be low tier DPS, i am not trying for over optimized)

Dervish Dance scimitar fighting (einhander of course, but onl for flavor).

... and for rules. Dervish Dance requires that you not have a shield or weapon in your non-scimitar hand.

On that note, there's an archetype "Free Hand Fighter" that's ... not great. But fits the flavor a bit.

The "Archer" archetype is more interesting, though. It gives you the ability to perform combat maneuvers with your bow and arrow (20' away? No matter, i'm still gonna Grapple you!). The Improved/Greater feats should work with that ability, too. Maneuvers are (imho) a great way to be effective without overshadowing less OP players.

Whatever archetype (if any) you choose, I recommend you pick one that does NOT trade away Weapon Training. This way you can get bonuses with both types of weapons.

This limits your options to normal Fighter, Lore Warden (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/fighter/archetypes/paizo---fighter-archetypes/lore-warden), and, oddly enough, Dawnflower Dervish (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/fighter/archetypes/paizo---fighter-archetypes/dawnflower-dervish)

You forgot Gladiator (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/fighter/archetypes/paizo---fighter-archetypes/gladiator). :smalltongue:
Dawnflower Dervish works just as well with melee or ranged, so that's definitely something to consider.
