The shoe. It needs some sort of symbol on it. Shoes like that don't exist anymore.

That shoe actually does have a logo on it, it's just not visible from the angle I drew it in. :smallwink:

Anyway...

Hmmm. OK, I guess I should post some more ... Interesting stuff.

An OC of mine I hope to one day use in a webcomic. Although, of my few ideas, this is one of the less fleshed out ones.

My friends all say it looks like something out of Power Rangers. Thoughts?

Those are quite recognizable for blind contour drawings. Out of curiosity, how long do you think you spent on each of them?

The first thing that sprung to mind when I saw your OC was He-Man. It's mostly the style that you've drawn him in, I imagine he wouldn't evoke such images if he was drawn differently. If you're going for that sort of style, I would say you've done a nice job.

I'm looking forward to seeing more!

Yeah, i could totally see that guy standing next to Rita Repulsa. :smallwink:

(Blind contour drawing, hm? I'm... kinda suspicious of that. Sounds a lot like Drawing With The Right Side Of The Brain. (Or was it left?) :smallconfused:)

AtlanteanTroll

@Nix Nihilia: Why thank you! I think the shoe took me a little under an hour and then the I shaved about 10 minutes off that for the flower and another 10 minutes when doing the hand.

Gotta' admit, I'm not so familiar with He-Man. And honestly I'm not sure what style I'm going for. Shonen-Manga-Esque, I suppose.

@Domocheesky: Sweet.:smallbiggrin:

Part of it is to use the other side of your brain, yes. Blind contour means you don't look down at your drawing while you're making it. Another part of it is to just get better at not having to constantly go back and forth from your drawing to whatever it is you're drawing.

So ... 2 more OCs from a different comic idea. (My much more fleshed out one.)

Your OCs look interesting, but their poses look stiff like they're action figures (it's a problem I have too). I think the legs aren't quite right too - like they aren't properly holding the weight of the figure (again a problem I have ). I'm not sure what exactly I'd do to fix it because it's something I'm figuring out at the moment as well.

Edit: Your line work is a heck of lot better than mine though.

I've got some bigger pieces from that art class that I'm actually pretty proud of, but I have no clue how to get a nice digital copy.

Cobalt

The hand is like a hitchhiker's as he stands on the street on a dark, stormy night, and as you reach out the window to shake his hand it falls off and he gives it to you, and his other hand is a hook, and his face is also a hook. Also, top man has no top head, which I have to assume is an accurate portrayal of his self, and thus I respect him for it.

Maybe the bigger images you could take a picture of and upload that picture of the picture? It might be lower quality, but they'd be up, eh? Also, how long did you have after your test that you had time to draw a face and torso-half?

Amazing how much your art has changed from your first post, where I thought, "Oh god.. I can do better than that."
Now looking over your stuff, I'm sort of thinking, "I.. Hope I can get that good.. Eventually". Weird how times change.

I have a little bit of criticism, but feel free to ignore me as you will, as I believe you are quite a bit better at the artistic side of life than I am right now.

So ... Uh. This thing.
This is where you went from being "alright" to "holy crap yes". That hand pose you have there, it looks simple, but I know how hard it is to draw because of the overlapping of the fingers. I know your style is more simplistic, but I would suggest adding some crease lines at the base of the mouth, to make it look like the arm is coming out from the inside, instead of just being behind the head. I also know someone who wants me to print a T-shirt for them, with this on it, so you're obviously doing something right.

A preview of something I hope to finish sometime soonish.
I would connect the lips up, or at-least the area where the two lips meet. The ears look to me like eggs with cracks in them, and the eyes are too cartoonish. That is some of the best hair I've seen in a long time, you've got it down almost perfectly, in my opinion.

Sparrows are pretty, Microns rule, and running out of space blows
I LOVE seeing pencil marks in images, so this just screams epic to me, making it hard for me to try to critique. However, I would suggest looking at the under feathers and then comparing them to the rest. They are slightly less detailed than the rest of the image, and are also at the bottom, meaning you'd expect a shadow to fall on them. The undetailed-ness of the bottom is what really bothers me though. Either way, AWESOME drawing, this one.

My life is no more! All my hard finals are over!
This is kind of dark and gothy, so I love it. My only qualm is that the blood covered hand blends into the dress behind. I suggest lightening up the red on the hand, or darkening it behind. Maybe both.

Punk's Not Dead
So awesome! Only problem: It looks to me as if the skeletons legs are fully fleshed out, whereas the rest of its body is all bones. It's really hard to emulate pants on a skeleton though, so I would have done the same thing.

a little something I'm still working on
The feet and legs of the lion need quite a bit of work. Lions are heavy creatures, so when they lay down, their legs don't really hang suspended like that, or even lay on each other. Rather, their legs touch the floor. So.. Like a cat, not a dog. Speaking of cats, if you have one, press its pad and inspect its paws. You'll see they're not connected, but are more like a group of stubby, inflexible fingers. Same with a lion. Also: Lions have a fifth, thumb like appendage. If you added it, the authenticity would go up.
Love the idea of this image, love the glasses and love the instrument (Though I don't really know what instruments look like, so that might be completely off. Looks good to me though). It's clear you have an imagination quite a few times more powerful than mine. Please keep exercising it. And please.. Could you take a look at my art thread when it comes up :p?

How do piano's work?

By hammers striking steel strings of varying lengths and thicknesses to produce a variety of sounds.

Anyway... The perspective on the keys is off. They look slanting.
Also, what's with the telescoping support? It's not typical.
Finally; The distance from the base of the keys to the stand for the music is a bit large. Your character would effectively have to be straining his neck to read it. Try lowering the top of the piano. And I'm not saying this very effectively, am I?

Look at that dino; razor-sharp teeth, luscious locks of scale-hair. Does this soldiering hero think he stands a chance? What a fool. No one goes the distance when the situation is that foul; no stratagem of war will save him now. Clearly, a dead man standing.

You drew that guy sitting down before, yes? Is he wearing that cape because he has no arm there, or is that just detail-picking? In any case, the more-recent one looks much better than the other one, imo; so that means improvement! Maybe that he's not standing up is part of it; rigidity turns me off, personally.

Good working!

Thanks, Cobalt! It's always nice seeing you around here. Indeed, yes, I did draw the sitting guy before. And he's wearing a cape because of the time-period the story was set in. (I was inspired by Blackadder.) And is a sitting position not a rigid one?

Character from one of Tragic Comedian's stories. The girl playing the flute is named Melody and the boy with the shovel is named Claude.

Well, looky here, if it hasn't been a while! I've got several new pics to show you guys! :)

Where to start. Geez. I suppose with this?

I took a very basic watercolor class this summer and this is about the only real painting I produced. I really want to try this more.

My girlfriend totally fell asleep while I was doodling, and missing my summer figure drawing class, I drew her.

This one is a "Before and After" drawing of a random character I made up for a contest. The one on the left is from January 2011 and the one on the right is from August of this year (2013).

And this last one here is a my first attempt at digital coloring. Yeah!

Okay, some advice. Put the description for the picture ABOVE the spoiler line, it's wigging me out XP

Secondly, I don't think the girlfriend picture came through correctly, unless your girlfriend is a manga website logo.

Third, you're a pretty great artist

Older abstract piece I was only able to scan recently. Can't decide if I'd like to work with pastels again or not...

So this is from a figure drawing class I had a little bit ago. About halfway through we did a piece with collage. I thought I'd hate it, but I ended up having lots of fun. It's cool, really. Minimalism isn't usually my thing.

The next to Figure Drawings are nudes. You have been warned.

First completed piece from the class I'm actually proud of. Unfortunately the top of his head was cut off, but whatever. I think I did this in about 20 minutes.

Second complete piece from the aforementioned class. This one took maybe 25 minutes?
