Im currently in the process of making a level one necromancer (not dread necromancer) and need help deciding whether or not to take an alternate class feature.

the rest of the group is as follows:
Human Wu jen lvl 1
Human Conjurer lvl 1 (abrupt jaunt)
Aventi Shugenja lvl 1

this is an all caster campaign.
all books are allowed.
The DM however tends to look... poorly on anything that boosts caster level too much though...
thanks in advance playground

necromancy's fun, not even the hordes of undead part. my favorite one was an unspecialized necro/illusionist that went nightmare spinner and took frightening necromancy. basically everytime they got hit by a fear effect they took damage, and all my necro spells caused some form of fear. and the illusions made sure the tank and scout could pick their own fields of combat.

as to ACF's the immediate magic from PHB 2 is nice if your the debuffer or you could take domain wizard From UA and pick up some cleric domains. hope this helps somewhat.

It might help if we knew which.
Wizards aren't exactly in short supply. (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=7908)

Well, if you want minionmancy, then you're better served by a Cleric with the Deathbound Domain, since it doesn't actually increase your CL, it just makes your extant CL worth more for one purpose. Which in this case is getting beefier HD for your cadre of 2-6 elite mindless undead.

If you feel up for it though and are patient, then megamanning with dread warriors and having hauntshifted adamantine/obdurium servitors as an aside to a more debuffy necromancing wizard build is always fun too, I'll admit.

You know about Animate Dread Warrior, Spellstitching, and the haunt shift trick, right?

Animate Dread warrior raises someone of sufficiently high level or hitdice as a zombie like creature that retains many of its old feats and skills. Additionally it is automatically under your control and there is no cap on the number you can control.

In that case I have some potential reading for you.

tome of necromancy, (http://tgdmb.com/viewtopic.php?t=34248) just cuz it's an interesting read.
revised necromancer's handbook. (http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75882/19872726/Revised_Necromancer_Handbook)

The Haunt Shift Trick (http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75882/19862018/Expanding_on_Haunt_Shift?post_id=338125118) is something that I believe JaronK is most known for having figured out, insofar as it is known. At the crux of it is the spell Haunt Shift f (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=9061.0)rom Libris Mortis, which allows one to turn an undead creature into a haunting presence which haunts an object, either as a poltergeist or living inside the item except when manifesting physically from it or as a combination of the two. When acting as a poltergeist, the haunting presence turns that object into an Animated Object.

There's a way to use this to get a totally sweet animated object body that has hardness out the wazoo, which is the bigger trick, but, it also allows one to have utility transport minions as well as giving one the ability to have really hardy minions due to being able to play around with their hardness.

There's other stuff that could go on there. (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=6315.0)

Edit: As was said, Animate Dread Warrior is pretty nifty. It's from Unapproachable East, IIRC, and while it has an XP cost, there's wasy to get around it, and when used on appropriate enemies it's well worth it, just the appropriate enemies pool shrinks.
