Battle maps

Hi, I'm starting a campaign here on the boards, but I've not ever really don't a campaign on the internet, so I was just hoping I could get some advice on what to use as far as encounter maps, as I have no idea how to do that out side of drawing them up and scanning/uploading them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many people use Google Docs: just create a grid, specify some symbols for different creatures along with some colors for different terrain, and allow all your players to view and edit it. Voilá!
Another popular program is MapTool, though I've never looked into it myself.

I used grids made in paint...if you search for The Endless Dungeon, you'll see some examples.

Can be a little tedious at first, but after you've got blank copies of all the graphics set up, you can easily modify them for individual encounters.
