I'm just curious as to whether this has been said anywhere. The current year, at least by the Northern system, is either 1184 or 1185 (I forget). Has it ever been established what happened 1184 years ago that the calendar is dated from?

Creation of the world i would guess...

Pretty sure it's the creation of the second world. Give me a minute, I'll check the Giant Quote Index...

Edit: I can't seem to find anything, but I think I saw The Giant say that sometime. I don't know, maybe I'm just tired.

Since the Southern calendar has a different year attached (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8569129&postcount=19), I don't think it's necessarily the creation of world 2.0. Probably some event among the Northern gods.

Well, if we're going under the impression that there have been tons and tons of adventuring parties and other such magical phenomena, it's not that hard to think that there was some kind of momentous event back then.

Then again, it could be completely arbitrary, only Rich knows.

According to the Crayons of Time (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0275.html), "a thousand years and more" passed from the creation of the world to when Soon found the first rift. "And more" leaves considerable wiggle room, but it certainly makes it seem likely that the dating is from then.

Wow, this world is really young. I guess it makes sense, since the gods jumpstarted the world with civilization already instituted.
