Hey guys,

If I'm a level 10 sorc and want to use a scroll of summon monster VI, do I have to make a UMD check?
If so, what would the check be?
Thanks.

Yes, because even if you're guaranteed to make the check, a natural 1 on a UMD roll means the check fails and you can't try again with that particular item for 24 hours.

Assuming the scroll is at its minimum caster level (11 for a level 6 spell), the check DC is 31 (20 + scroll's caster level).

No, since the spell is on your class spell list. But since your caster level isn't high enough, you must make a caster level check of 12 (scroll's caster level + 1) in order to use it.

And here's the quote from the SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/scrolls.htm):

If [...] her own caster level is lower than the scroll spell’s caster level, then she has to make a caster level check (DC = scroll’s caster level + 1) to cast the spell successfully. If she fails, she must make a DC 5 Wisdom check to avoid a mishap (see Scroll Mishaps, below). A natural roll of 1 always fails, whatever the modifiers.

And here's the quote from the SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/scrolls.htm):

Just FYI, that's the wrong SRD. For Pathfinder you want this one (http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/) or this one. (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/)

Your quote is still right however - here is the Pathfinder source for it. (http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/magicItems/scrolls.html#scrolls)

But I just wanted to add that UMD is still an option, and may even be more attractive if you have a lot of boosts (high Charisma, buffs to the skill etc.) UMD gives you an alternate method of activating the scroll, and one which does not risk triggering scroll mishaps if you fail.
