My party is lowish level (7th) with a druid and a wizard. We will be going against creatures with a lot of poison use. We also dont have a huge amount of cash to go blowing for neutralize poison potions.

What are some some spells, tactics, or techniques to keep from dying from poison? I mean, AFTER the inevitable delay poison wears off....

If you know what the specific poisons are, then go find some antidote to them. It'll probably be cheaper to find antidotes that only fix 1 specific poison then the cure-all-poison pots.

An antitoxin vial costs 50 gp and gives you +5 to Fortitude vs poison for one hour. It's always a good idea to have a few around.

Also, someone with high ranks in Heal can help when it's time to make the second saving throw. At level 7 with 10 ranks, +3 Wisdom and possibly +2 from some other source (someone helping, if the DM allows it), it's an easy check.

A paladin version of Lesser Restoration is 1500g, a cleric/druid version is 4500g. Since most poisons deal ability damage, one of these should make you incredibly durable to it in the long run.

Cross-classing Autohypnosis is a good idea for most characters, actually. You have enough concentration ranks to get a synergy bonus as well. Especially for the Wizard, who would likely have a higher Autohypnosis check than Fort. save with cross-class investment.

Also, play a Dwarf. Probably too last to change that, right? :durkon:

Just gonna throw something horribly obvious out here... you do realize neutralize poison is a third-level Druid spell? So 3 castings a day are reasonable from the druid, if you haven't taken that into account already. (NOTE: Do not mix delay poison and neutralize poison on the same character, as they conflict with each other.)

The druid can get two castings a say of neutralize poison (one from normal druid profression, one from high wisdom). I am concerned with two things:

1) if more than two people in the party get poisoned, someone could die.

2) we are essentially taking out the druid's highest slots all the time. If there is a better or cheaper way to get rid of poison, then that eould be preferable.

Antitoxins are cheap, and they'll make it very difficult to miss a poison save, especially since the highest DC for poison you can really get is around 20. With Antitoxin and perhaps Bear's Endurance active, even a wizard with a mere 10 con would have a +9 to the save, whereas someone with a strong save or better con could have as high as, say, +16.

Next, the elephant in the room. Delay Poison is a 2nd level druid spell, and a scroll can be purchased for 150 gp. It prevents the target from being affected by poison for 1 hour/caster level (or 3 hours if you don't want to cast it yourself). With a good heal check, poison won't be an issue during or after the battle.

Another useful thing against creatures with poison?

Summons and battlefield control.

Get some battlefield control to disrupt the enemies, and let your Conjure Ice Beast summoned creatures attack the creatures rather than you. They are, after all, immune to poison, being constructs...

Potions of Delay Poison. 150 gold a pop, gives you three hours of "Poison literally does not affect me". A scroll or two of Neutralize Poison (375 GP a pop for a druid) means that after you're done the adventure, the worst-poisoned individuals can be completely cleansed without even making a single save. For the dwarven fighter of the group, an antitoxin will go a long way.

If you rush through quickly, a couple delay poisons, and several days rest, will suffice.

Go to a town, hire an NPC to neutralize poison for you. A standard price is 150 gp from a druid, 280 gp from a cleric. Clerics are much easier to find in civilization but there may still be some druids. Or make friends with some tribe. Delay poison a second time if necessary to reach the town or tribe.

The heal skill also lets you substitute a heal check next time that person makes a save, and when your'e not threatened or distracted you can take a 10. At your level with druid wis that might be a 25 on his save. Even the wizard could manage a 16 or so which may beat most poisons.

Away from civilization delay poison, heal check, lesser restoration and a day of rest should be plenty.

your DM may appreciate a little RP in this one. try and get a local church to sponsor you guys. promise to do some holy stuff of sorts, or see if there is anything you can do that coincides with what yuo are doing now. in return, you guys get your poison needs taken care of and lots of delicious XP
