I'm curious to hear if anyone has gotten it past a DM and what explanation they used (if the fluff requirement wasn't outright ignored).

The explanation I've seen a few times is "This physique has been passed down by the Armstrong family for generations!", but I'd like to hear some other options. God Hand?

Choose an item you own. The item must be
of masterwork quality, and it must be an item that once
belonged to a member of your family. Alternatively, the
item may have belonged to another person to whom
you are somehow connected, such as another member
of your religious order.

Considering an Unarmed Strike is not even a particular item at all, not to mention it's not masterwork quality, I seriously doubt you would ever get that by any rules-savvy DM.

1.There's a RAW-debatable method, via gauntlets.

2.There's a strict RAW method via Scorpion Kama.

3.A final RAW method is a Necklace of Natural Attacks.

What about applying Pathfinder's Heirloom Weapon (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/traits/equipment-traits/heirloom-weapon) trait to an Unarmed Strike? The bonus isn't huge, but unlike with many other weapons, it will never become outdated. Could be very useful if you're making a Grapple-focused Monk...

I was more curious about how people worked it story wise than rules.

Make it a secret fighting style taught only to members of the family.

"I live on . . . through this arm!"

Well played sir.

But that's got to be an Intelligent Item with a fairly ridiculous Ego score. Or be wielded by a guy with an obscene Bluff check.

This combat style has been passed down the Armstrong line for generations!!

These hands are grafts passed down from generation to generation.

My first thought on reading this were the Discworld Igors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Igor_%28Discworld%29), who literally have their mother's eyes (or hair, or arm, or ...).

"I live on . . . through this arm!"

I once played a Warforged character with a 'Tail' weapon familiar. I don't see an arm as too much of a stretch.
Aren't there rules for enchanting a person's body? (not just Warforged)
To enchant something it has to be masterwork, right?

The blessings of his ancestors bestow special power with every strike of his fist. Don't see why you'd need to get more complicated than that.

My first impulse is to put the Ancestral Relic on rosary beads or a prayer cloth used as fist wraps. Then work in some overdramatic backstory for it for maximum 90s-comic-style emotitude. :smalltongue:

Sure, and then have the PC be a Monk with a VoP. Time to get out the hammergun.

Now my Gnome wants to build this.
And make it magical.
Cannot be fired whilst moving, Verbal trigger.
