796 Smash (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0796.html)
842 All in the Family (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0842.html)

... that's been happening depressingly often lately. Any other examples? I've gone backwards to 742, but I don't have all day to read Oots here.

...Three strips out of a hundred? That's a pretty low standard for "often".

Not sure what your point is, anyway, since it's quite possible to have a very dark strip with people smiling or laughing.

You'd probably have to go back to a little bit after they left the Dungeon of Dorukan to find an arc that didn't have entirely serious strips in it. It's called story telling.
I don't see what this proves.

796's "STOP TALKING" is arguably a "brick joke" to when Miko told Roy that when they fought that one time.

On that note, her death scene qualifies.

There were jokes in the latest strip, just not at the end.
