So, a few questions regarding the Web spell:

If set on fire, the web burns, with a speed of about 5' cubic per round. If something larger than medium is trapped inside, will the damage (2d4) be multiplied by each round the creature stays trapped in the burning web?

Do characters trapped in the burning web risk catching fire?

1: You roll for the damage each round the creature is trapped in the web, just like if you doused them with Alchemist's fire.
2: The creature itself is in no danger of catching fire, although flammable items they carry may be so.

2d4 for every 5 ft square they get hit by.

i would say yes... it is continual fire for the whole round, so catching fire seems very likely to me

But what is the reason for the 2d4 per round? It certainly doesn't say so in the spell description. Furthermore, the webs are kind of tricky: the strands need two opposing surfaces or the web will "collapse on itself and disappear", thus defying the idea of a burning 20' radius inferno, and looking like more like a smoldering slowly accelerating collapse.

Any other thoughts on these questions?

"Any fire can set the webs alight and burn away 5 square feet in 1 round. All creatures within flaming webs take 2d4 points of fire damage from the flames."
It sounds more like burning more web at once will only increase the area, not hit large creatures multiple times. Just like a fireball doesn't do quadruple damage to large creatures. On top of that the fire burns away the web within 1 round so they don't take more fire damage next round unless they enter a new section of web and you burn it.

Read it again.
For every round they are in a burning web they take 2d4 fire damage. This can lead to an hilarious race game if they can only make 5' a round through the web and are compelled to move away from the flames. Even funnier if they do this when not compelled: since doubling back would avoid the flames and exit the web.

Ok, see that now. So, what about catching fire?
