Page load hangs on ad banner

For the past couple of days, about 60% of my page loads on the forums here have gotten hung up for long periods of time at the point where the page is attempting to load the projectwonderful banner at the top. Sometimes, it even hangs completely and never finishes loading. Would it be possible to make the default behaviour be to load the banners with javascript, either asychronously or after the rest of the page finishes loading?
