is there a way to cast spells with range of "personal" on someone else? I really need to protect my PC's from a magic missile-happy BBEG.

Yup. Spellguard class in Player's Guide to Faerun.
Combine with Incantatrix to get rid of all those silly restrictions on what you can or can't do with your spells/metamagic.

There are some arcane spells that allow you to share other spells:

Put the personal spell you want to give into a casting of Energy Transformation Field (SC), which has no limitations on the spell that can be put into it.
Cast Shapechange and turn into a Symbiont (FF) and latch onto your target, so spells you cast are shared with them.
Another magic item: Buy Bracelets of Spell Sharing (DMG2), allowing you to cast on your and a partner at the same time.

Buy everyone a Brooch of Shielding (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#broochofShielding) for just 1500 gp each.
