Just wondering is there anyway to buy off a template like half fiend or ghost without savage progression is it possible?

Sure, it would use the same formula presented. There's no example given for buying off more than 3, but that doesn't mean you can't.

As written, you can buy off only one step, at level 12 (technically you can keep buying it off, but you have to do it at epic levels).

I much prefer my personal method of handling such templates, which is dividing the benefits into as many dead levels (like a savage progression) as the LA indicates, then letting the players buy off each level as soon as they take it. They still have to pay around 3K XP for every level, but it's frankly a lot better than the current system.

You may not get it entirely bought off until the epic levels, but it is theoretically possibel.

Note that with a savage progression (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/arch/sp) for which you can pick when to gain each level (see here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20030824a)) rather than being forced to gain the whole thing before any other classes are taken, it can be considerably easier. Assuming you start at 2nd+ level, you can gain the first template class level (technically a +1 LA) at 1st, gain three regular class levels, and buy that off. Your next level should be the next template class level, then three more regular class levels, and then you can buy that one off. The same can be done for a low-LA base race plus one or more low-LA acquired templates, such as Mineral Warrior (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20031003e).

Well, you can buy off one of your 4 levels of adjustment at level 12, which allows for 17 levels of caster at level 20. Assuming you have a wizard-type spell progression, you could hit 9th level spells at 20. A sorcerer progression would need 21 levels to hit 9th level spells.
