View Full Version : The Slavers of Tyr

The King was weak. And when a king is weak, the people suffer.
For many years the land of Tyr prospered. It was located high in the mountains, protected from the wrath of the Ashtorian empire, and their king, King Solon was wise and benevolent. But things went wrong, as of course they must. King Solon was assassinated, and replaced by King Hector II, who seized leadership by making empty promises to his dukes.
The new king taxed the lands heavily for several years, until finally, when the people saw how weak he had become, they simply began to ignore him. Dukes rebelled. Tyr fell into chaos.
While the king struggled to hold onto what petty power he had, the seeds of war and corruption were spread. The Ashtorian empire seized three fiefdoms along the coast, and werewolves began to prowl deeper and deeper into the kingdom. Rebel leaders became as common as peasants, but many were no better then the werewolves or their elven masters. And of course, the slave trade began.
The gnoll-centered organization known as the Slave Consortium began to both deal slaves to local warlords in Tyr and take slaves out of Tyr to be sold to the Ashtorian empire or similar areas. King Hector turned a blind eye, for the slaves began to quell his angry dukes. They could begin to turn a profit. And so the village of Sparrowledge, in a small valley of the Torian Mountains, became a cesspit of gnoll slavers and their "merchandise."
Seven powerful warriors, all traveling separately towards the capitol in the hopes of adventure, found themselves kidnapped by a band of gnolls and duergar, chained together at the ankles and on the march to Sparrowledge. But when one makes eye contact with another, then he makes contact with another, soon a message is spread to these seven fledgling adventurers. "Together, we can escape."

The seven of you are chained together at the ankles as you march through the Torian mountains. About a half mile ahead of you is a caravan that carries a group of duergar merchants and psions. From what you saw, there're three of them. Four gnolls are escorting you now. You (the PCs) may act on a surprise round, but with a -4 penalty to all dexerity based checks due to the chains. One of the gnolls is riding a horse, upon which all of your equipment can be found.

Trenton looks around at his comrades-in-chains, then collapses, groaning and clutching his ankle, but being careful to pitch his voice not to carry up to the wagon bearing the Duergar. He does his best to draw the attention of all the guards, so that one of his companions might be able to discretely lift a weapon from the packhorse.

With a bluff roll of only 11, Trenton succeeds in attracting the attention of one gnoll. It separates Trenton from the rest of the group, pulling him to the back, then throws him on the ground and begins to sniff you. The gnoll is obviously trying to look mean and scare you back onto your feet, but it's obvious that the monster is actually rather clueless about what to do. The gnoll is now considered flat footed.

Takuya walked slowly, though he stopped when the one called Trenton doubled over. One of the gnolls started walking towards them. A chance! If only the blasted sun weren't blaring down on his face. Though, to be honest, if it wasn't for the sun, these damned slavers wouldn't have captured Takuya to begin with. At the moment, though, he was powerless to attack this creature, so instead he stood still, inhaling the torturingly alluring scent of the gnoll's blood from just a few feet away. Licking his lips, and running his tongue over his fangs, Takuya waited patiently. Someone would take the chance. And when they did, Takuya would pounce, and the gnoll would pay dearly for chaining him up. One pint at a time.

Aaron studied his fellow captives, by the looks of it they could easily overpower their captors, if someone would only take the initiative....
(Ooc any trees or walls i would be able to make it too if i ran? or are we manacled together?)

Isla studied her captors with new-found hatred. How had she been so stupid and stumbling as to be captured by these creatures? She looked over at the horse with all their possessions on it - including her precious spell components. If only she could get over there.

She nodded, trying to make her look a significant one. She eyes the other captives. Can she trust them? Everyone outside her island home seems to detest elves, even their captors.

She tries to inch closer to the horse where their possessions are stored.
(In game terms, within a 5-foot step)

(Can she spot where her component pouch is? Retrieving it is only going to work if she can grab it without needing a search roll.)

Luckily, Isla's component pouch is at the top of the pile. The other gnolls are somewhat distracted by the less-then-successful antics of Trenton Pierce, and you are able to get ahold of your spell component pouch. The party still has the opportunity to act on a surprise round, but the gnolls are becoming suspicious as you seven begin to subtly shift your positions.

Isla manouvers her manacled hands into position and weaves through the gestures to cast a spray of colours over as many of the Gnolls as possible.

(This will probably require a concentration or spellcraft check due to the manacles! Casting Colour Spray, Concentration +5, Spellcraft +10, save DC 15)

She then yells, in common, Go!, and tries to position the horse between her and any conscious gnolls remaining. Her heart thrums in her chest, and she has visions of her being cut down without the rest of the party moving a muscle.

With a successful concentration check, Isla sprays a vivid rainbow across the gnolls! Two of them scream and drop unconscious, clutching their eyes as they fall, but the other two seem to resist the attack. Those that remain are infuriated and begin to attack, but the rest of the party still has time to act!

The gnoll tending to Trenton is among those that are effected by the spray

Trenton tackles the gnoll standing over him, hoping that between the rainbow spray and his distraction, that we would be able to Trip him and steal his dagger (if he's got one).

Aaron moves towards the closest climbable object/structure and launches a bolt of energy, crackling blue interlaced with purple towards the nearest gnoll still standing.

Roun will finally move, reaching into the saddlebags to try and find his morningstar.

He'll have been the odd one out during captivity, since for some reason he was allowed to keep the blue spectacles on his face. This was mostly because not even a giant would have been able to pry them off his face, but the others here wouldn't know that. Besides, he's nearsighted.

If the wiry young man manages to get a hold of his weapon, he'll swing for the nearest gnoll that didn't succumb to the color spray

Roun grabs his morningstar and swings it out out at a nearby gnoll. He lands a hit, but it does little more then daze the ferocious monster, then serve to enrage it further.

The gnolls were knocked unconscious for 5 rounds

The smell was finally too much for Takuya and he opened his mouth and leaped down on one of the prone individuals, baring his fangs to take a bite out of his neck.

Stretching the chain to their limits, Takuya begins to feed on one of the gnolls. The other adventurers look mortified, but are too caught up in the battle to stop the ravenous vampire...

Robert Sable moves towards the cart, provoking an attack of opportunity from a nearby gnoll. However, the gnoll is disoriented from the recent display of lights and shocked by the sudden turn of events, and it barely misses him. Robert reaches the caravan and retrieves his holy symbol, then brandishes at a the gnoll that almost hit him.

The gnolls attack! One latches on to the vampire as he feeds and deals an easy lethal blow with one chop of his greataxe. The second gnoll turns at strikes out at Roun, but he misses badly...

The remaining six characters can now act.

Trenton throws the dagger he's holding at the gnoll that killed the vampire. Despite her unsettling feeding habit, she had obviously been on the 'good' side of this conflict. As soon as the dagger has left his hand, he runs towards the horse carrying the supplies to retrieve his more familiar weapons.

Damage [roll1]

edit: Although seeing how badly his aim was affected by the manacles, he decides to search for the key instead.

Isla casts another spell, this time on herself; a shimmering protective force appears around her torso. She steps nimbly around the horse, keeping it between her and the two remaining active gnolls, and rummages in the bags for her shortbow.

Trenton is able to shed his chains before the round ends.
