To raise the alarm whispering wind and dancing lights were cast. Then the caster died. Do the spells end? Could you also answer about summon monster as well because I have a feeling that it will come up in the future?

I'm not aware of any provisions that dictate this. The requisite arcane energy has already been expended, so the spell has no reason to leave.

No, spells have a listed duration and it's how long they last regardless of the caster's condition. Of course they may be exceptions, such as if a creature has an emanation spell centered on it, but it's completely eradicated due to some effect (like Destruction). In such a case it could be argued that if the source is gone, the spell dissipates.

Spells with durations of concentration or the like would end as well. Certain other spells (summoning mostly) would continue but the summoned being would either follow it's last instruction or be on it's own.

Building on this, there are a few spells in Spell Compendium that end when the caster dies, but that's because they self-trigger a resurrection effect on the caster.
