View Full Version : "I am one of heaven's servants, a bringer of god's glory." (3.5.2 Cleric, PEACH, WIP)

These are designed to work using the D&D 3.5.2 rules I'm working on (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=236139) (which are still under construction as of this moment).

For the record, 51-layer tables take FOREVER to get working. This post was open in my browser for almost two days before I finally got these tables right. It took me a long time to figure out how to balance the class level with spellcasting, but I think the current result works well (though I'll need to do some playtesting once the retool is semi-complete to be sure).

Please keep in mind this is a WIP, and nowhere near done. I'm only putting it up partway done in the hopes that new eyes will catch any stupid errors I've made, so please PEACH.

Class Abilities: The following are all class abilities of the Cleric.

Proficiencies: All Clerics are proficient with all simple weapons, as well as their deity's favored weapon. They are proficient in light armor, but not shields.

Sworn Servitor: All Clerics have sworn themselves into the service of a particular deity, who grants them their spells, their Aura, their Holy Gifts, and their ability to turn or rebuke undead. A Cleric must be within one step of his deity's alignment at all times (so a Cleric serving a Lawful Good deity could be Lawful Good, Neutral Good, Lawful Neutral, or Neutral Neutral). Any Cleric who willingly betrays the teachings of his deity or who's alignment changes to be further than one step from his deity's loses his ability to cast spells, use Holy Gifts and turn or rebuke undead until he receives an atonement spell from a fellow Cleric of his deity.

Aura (Ex): A Cleric of a chaotic, evil, good, or lawful deity has a particularly powerful aura corresponding to the deity’s alignment.

Divine Focus: At 1st level, 5th level, and then every 10 levels after that, the Cleric gains a new divine focus. The 1st level focus is always his deity's holy symbol, but the rest are up to the choice of the Cleric (and the consent of the Cleric's deity). A divine focus is used to channel holy power, and is required to cast any spells from the Cleric spell list, turn or rebuke undead, or to use Holy Gifts.

Spellcasting: A Cleric casts divine spells, which are drawn from the Cleric spell list. However, his alignment may restrict him from casting certain spells opposed to his deity's teachings: he may never cast a spell opposed to his deity's alignment. A Cleric must choose and prepare his spells in advance (see below).

To prepare or cast a spell, a Cleric must have a Wisdom score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a Cleric’s spell is 10 + the spell level + the Cleric’s Wisdom modifier.

Like other spellcasters, a Cleric can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. His base daily spell allotment is given on the table. In addition, he receives bonus spells per day if he has a high Wisdom score. A Cleric also gets one domain spell of each spell level he can cast, starting at 1st level. When a Cleric prepares a spell in a domain spell slot, it must come from one of his domains (see Domains, Domain Spells and Bonus Domains, below).

Clerics meditate or pray for their spells. Each Cleric must choose a time at which he must spend 1 hour each day in quiet contemplation or supplication to regain his daily allotment of spells. Time spent resting has no effect on whether a Cleric can prepare spells. A Cleric may prepare and cast any spell on the Cleric spell list, provided that he can cast spells of that level, but he must choose which spells to prepare during his daily meditation.

Domains, Domain Spells and Bonus Domains: A Cleric starts play at level one with access to one domain offered by his deity. He gains the domain granted power of this domain, and may prepare the domain spell for each level in his domain spell slot for the day.

At 10th level, and every 10 levels thereafter, the Cleric may choose another domain from his deity's list of domains and gain its granted power, as well as the option to prepare the spells of the new domain's spell list in his domain spell slots for the day. If he has access all of his deity's domains already, he may choose one domain of his choice; this choice must be approved by his deity.

I don't really see that much difference. Other than the poor BAB and the unusual (and likely to totally mess things up when multiclassing) lack of iterative attacks from the BAB, there doesn't really seem to be that much change.

This is supposed to feel like a Cleric at its core, so I guess I did my job right. He'll be getting a couple more abilities later (I need to define Turn Undead still, and I haven't even started Holy Gifts, a new set of abilities I'm creating for the Cleric), but for now it should feel a lot like a standard Cleric, only longer.

Can you elaborate on what you think is wrong with the BAB?

I didn't realize that it was meant to work with a modified system; for the new system, it looks good.
