Is this a picture of Girard using illusions to HIDE a gate, or using illusions to create the image OF a gate?

I would assume hide. The main goal was to make it so that people are unaware of the gates, so creating a false one wouldn't help that goal.

While that's a fantastic thought, and I kind of wish it was true, if he had made a fake gate, surely it would be where the Order were searching in the middle of the desert.

Plus what the good Saint said.

Still, good idea :smallwink:.

The gate is at ground level. The entrance to the ziggurat is several stories up. This would seem to support the idea that the ziggurat is the real location of the gate, and the gate is at the bottom, accessed through the trap-filled dungeon.

I'd say hiding. Why put the idea of a gate into anyone's head?

Not just anyone's head — Soon's head.

That's an illusion that works for only one person. A person who likely knows by now Girard is an illusionist, at that. So, it works only if a particular person comes along, forget's Girard's abilities and takes what he sees at face value. Not to mention, the order of the scribble has a warning system, so Soon may already know the gate hasn't been compromised.

It just seems very risky with little payoff.

Either way he's giving people a headache...
