You've got a mount thanks to Horse Master, now what to use it with?

Barbarian, Ranger, Paladin are out because you would just take the mounts they can give you if you wanted to be mounted with them.

That really only leaves Fighter open. Any of the non-Roughrider/Lancer ones worth looking at for this?

Prehaps some prcs?

What fighter gives you is the ability to stock up on mounted combat feats early. The special features of the archetypes are not too overwhelming, though. But you might as well pick whatever seems nice. You don't need armor training anyway.

I've personally always wanted to try a mounted Magus. Not sure if the Spellstrike damage would be multiplied by Spirited Charge or a mounted lance charge though.

Hmm, wonder how a mounted Rogue would work. Bandit pretty much guarantees sneak attack on a charge,

Is bleed damage from Bleeding Attack multipled? Other archetypes of note to combine with?

Actually, the Ranger and Paladin can trade their mounts in for some VERY nice Archetype features.

Freebooter is quite nice in a Melee-Heavy group.
Spirit Ranger gets Augury 1/day, and lets you spontaneously cast any Ranger spell (1/day more uses with levels)
Trophy Hunter is probably the next best thing to 'actual' Gunslinger levels, Hunter's Aim let's him target Touch AC out to 2 range increments.

Straight Paladin can bond with his Weapon.
Divine Defender can bond with Armor.
Sacred Servant can bond with his Holy Symbol for some nice, and hard/impossible to get bonuses, AND gets access to a Domain to boot! With Spells/Slots!
Holy Tactician gets free Teamwork Feats and can share 1 of them with all allies (NO duration!).

And as for Barbarian, the Mounted Fury archetype trades away Uncanny Dodge, which while not "super-awesome" it does prevent you from being able to take certain OTHER archetypes *cough* Invulnerable Rager *cough* Scarred Rager *cough*.

So don't count any of them out off-hand.

OH! And I just found out that Standard Bearer (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/cavalier/archetypes/paizo---cavalier-archetypes/standard-bearer) Cavalier switches the levels he gets Mount/Banner, and does NOT lose/delay Expert Trainer. He gets Trainer at 4th, and Mount at 5th, so if you never take the 5th level of Cavalier you could "technically" have "full character level" towards your Mount feature without actually having a mount.
Maybe you DO want to take Barb/Paladin/Ranger and pick up a Mount then?
