The Halls of Undermountian

The warm atmosphere of the Yawning Portal tavern offers a blessed relieffrom the bitter winter chill outside. Here, pipesmoke and the scent of spiced wine mingle with dozens of dialogues bleeding into one, while the snowy world lies trapped outside the heavily fogged glass. In the midst of the folk talking and dancing is a wide circular well lit by everburning torches: the eponymous Yawning Portal, which, the leBend holds, is an entrance to Undermountain, the leBendary dungeon.

Intent on adventure-whether for sheer thrills or for matters material and financial-you settle into the smoky common room, talking about for a wealthy patron or a rumor of treasure to be found.

Within a mere moment of your entrance, a lovely musical laugh seizes your attention: At the next table, a nobly-dressed half-elf woman with a shock of crimson hair and bright eyes is discussing just such a quest with two adventurous-looking types: a dwarf and a tiefling wizard. You hear her mention "gold" and "ancient magic".

Finren, Gnome Ranger

Finren takes a seat at a table alone and orders a drink. He sits idly running his finger along the blade of his scimitar, looking wearily about the room. When the talk between the half-elf and her companions becomes too load to ignore, something in him perks up to listen closely. He briefly thinks of the lightness of his wallet. But he pushes the thought aside. For now. Would that his skills could get him some normal, honest, and safe work for a change. He sighs and mutters to himself, "This is no way to make a living."

Ezekial

Drawn by the sound of her laugh and her striking red hair, Ezekial makes his way over to the half-elf's table. Pulling out a chair and slouching down into it, What is a beautiful creature like you doing with these two rough looking individuals? And did I hear the name Undermountain?

The half elf woman looks up and says "You did, but I'm afriad others have already taken the job."

With that, she, the dwarf, and the tiefling get to their feet and walk towards the door. "Now, to the alley to discuss the terms," the teifling says. The dwarf looks back at you and grins.

Finren hasn't stopped listening, despite himself. Now he throws a casual glance toward the three at the near table. He doesn't like what he sees. Can she really be so stupid? he thinks, then heaves an even deeper sigh than before. It may shortly become moot whether he wants to get involved or not, if the half-elf is really so naive. He keeps a tight grip on his pack, ready to move if the half-elf proves willing to leave alone with her shifty companions.

The tiefling opens the door, and the trio leaves into the street. The door slams shut behind them.

Thoradin

A well worn but well kept dwarf sits by the fire. He wears an unimpressive traveling cloak that seems to cover a large bulk and a backpack lays at his feet with a large item wrapped in cloth. A pipe dangles out of his mouth and his long brown hair is tied back out of his eyes. His table is covered with the remains of the aforementioned spice drink.

He watched the converstion between the foppish mage and the elfin lass take place and decided after that she departed it might be best to go take a leak, if only to be nearby incase things seemed as foul as they seemed. In his expereince, they often were.

Finren curses himself for not being able to keep out of other people's business. He downs the rest of his drink, then gets up slowly and moves nonchalantly to the door where the strange party exited. Hoping he's given them enough time to move somewhat away, he opens the door casually and steps out, looking casually about to see where they went.

Stealth if possible to get close to their conversation: [roll0]

Finren leaves the tavern just in time to see the trio walk into an alley beside the Yawning Portal.

Ezekial

Feeling slightly insulted by the woman's manner, Ezekial shakes his head when she departs with the other two. Fool half-elf is going to get herself killed. With a sigh, Ezekial stands and moves towards the door after they have exited the room.

Finren follows the trio into the alley at a distance, trying to keep close enough to be within earshot, but far enough away to avoid being seen.

Same Stealth and Perception checks from last post should still apply, unless there's a new reason for a check.

Ezekial

Not seeing which way they have moved, Ezekial goes back into the tavern and goes over to take a look at the portal itself.

Thoradin mosies outside and does an exaggerated stumble around, looking for a quiet place to go.

Finren hears the rough, raspy voice of the tiefling, saying something sharply.

Ezekial

Having re-entered the tavern and gone to examine the "portal", Ezekial peers down into its depths.
