Shadow Weave

Right, so I have a couple questions regarding FR's shadow weave.

1) If you cast an evocation (darkness) spell, do you benefit from the shadow weave or take the penalty, or both which would cancel itself out, I believe?

2) What effect would shadow weave casters deal with during planar travel where there is no weave or shadow weave? Do they just draw raw magic or are they SOL?

3) Is there a good way to use both Arcane Devotee (Shar) and Shadow Adept so as not to suck at early levels?

They'd draw from the "mantle" of power on the plane in question, just like a Weave user would.
