So, I can't make heads nor tails of how to assign CR/XP for the encounters I've designed! Anyone willing to help me?

Here they are:

Encounter 1: 6 bandits waiting to ambush the party

Oh yes, this should probably be taken into account: Encounters 5 and 6 will be sequential.

PC classes have CR equal to level - 1.
NPC classes have CR equal to level - 2.

Find out the xp that each would give you when defeated.
Add them together.
Find the CR that gives the closest amount of XP to this result.
There you have it.

So, since I want the encounters to be somewhere in the range of Challenging, I guess I'd have to change them a bit:

Any comments on the encounters themselves? Are they alright? Too difficult? Too easy?
