So a friend and I were talking about ToB and we got into the idea that the three classes in the book were the closest thing that melee has to being balanced with the full casters. The reason being, of course, maneuvers.

So then we got on to the idea of ALL non casting classes being maneuver based. Is this possible? A good idea? Has anyone attempted this before? Is this old news, and if so can a brother get a link?

Thoughts, help, or advice?

Look up Tome of Tactics here on Gitp. The homebre classes seem balanced enough and cover the ranger, rogue, and fighter niches pretty well. Some of the maneuvers are bleh and rely on skills I personally wouldn't put ranks in, but are solid and finally explain a non-fsce with bluff or a fighter with ranks in heal.

Balance, you say?

Here's my suggestion.

Look through Age of Warriors (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7623863#post7623863), Some of Oskar's Complete (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121939) Martial (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=169491), the aforementioned Tome of Tactics, and the classes and disciplines from Warriors and Wuxia (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=205213). Pick a number of the classes that you like, plus the main three from ToB, and some disciplines.

Then, take Factotum, Binder, Incarnate, and Totemist, as well as some other "skill monkey" classes that you find. Maybe include some Psionic classes, to, for a group with less staying power but more force than the rest.

Then take Spellshaping (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?board=64.0). Just, flat out, all of it.

Allow only those things. Now you have a large number of classes that can all contribute meaningfully in most contexts. Enjoy.
