Have I been oblivious or has this snuck in completely under the radar (http://www.youtube.com/user/SonyPicsUK?v=Ho08smK_zSc)?

I'm curious but reserved. The trailer doesn't jump out at me, but it's Aardman - there's bound to be all sorts of easter eggs in there to keep the adults entertained.

Well I just got back from watching it and I laughed for ages! The best trailer I've seen is the original Uk trailer as it's sung to the "what shall we do with the drunken sailor" song!

OK, that's a much better trailer.

Nope that is for the US.

I've seen trailers for it in my theater in Washington.

I think I prefer "The Pirates! In an adventure with scientists!" over "The Pirates! Band of Misfits"

Yeah, I think so too, the former is just so clumsy in that ye olde subtitle way it actually works, while the latter is just clumsy.
Still, I hadn't heard of this film until the day before yesterday and now I want to see it, though perhaps not in 3D.

Went to see this with a friend yesterday. It can only be described as hilarious. I and my friend barely stopped laughing throughout at the characters, the settings, and the little jokes in the background.

That said, I suspect that a UK audience will find it more entertaining than an american audience for the sole reason that there's a lot of little jokes that an American audience simply wouldn't get: the cap badge worn by Pirate with Gout for example.

If you haven't seen it, do go. It's well worth it for (I was going to say one of the best portrayals of Her Majesty, Queen Victoria, but quite frankly all the characters are absolutely amazing).

It's definitely on my "must see it!" list.
Everything is better with pirates.

This is definitely a film I want to see, as I love Aardman's work, and this looks like a lot of fun.
The only thing I don't like the look of potentially is the use of celebrity voice actors, but Pirate Captain sounds and looks different enough from Hugh Grant, judging from the previews, that I can accept it.

You don't really notice with any of them who the voice actors are, and I'm usually good at picking these things up. (Well, except for Brian Blessed, but who else could you get to be his particular character?)

Thank gods. I know there is a long history of celebrity voice acting, and it can be done well, see 'The Jungle Book' for examples of both, but all too often it's just distracting.

Unfortunately, the public within the US is generally (https://blogs.wellesley.edu/vanarsdale/2012/03/29/teaching/600/) distrustful (http://towleroad.typepad.com/files/apr12asrfeature.pdf) of science and so anything with "science" or "scientist" in the name is less likely to succeed.
