The Legend of Grimrock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmSJ1iFx5zA) comes out on April 11th, and I've got a feeling that this may be the return of a gaming style that hasn't been done, or at least hasn't been done well, in a long long time.

I would love to see this genre, along with table top RPGs that inspired it, come into greater recognition in the world of games. Also, old school mode for those who like drawing their own maps, I can see the link.

Anyway, who else feels this bodes well for the return of the dungeon crawl?

Already preordered LoG directly from games site.

Check out this game review (http://kotaku.com/5896882/legend-of-grimrock-is-everything-i-wanted-in-a-modern+day-dungeon-crawler) with ingame video shows some nice details that are missing in trailers.

Wow, that was amazing, thanks for the link. I can't wait for April 11 to actually play the thing.

Dungeoncrawls and roguelikes have been making a minor comeback in the last few years, between the continuing popularity of Stone Soup et al and the resurgence of the genre in titles like Dungeons of Dredmor and The Binding Of Isaac. I sincerely doubt that it will ever successfully pass out of the realm of indie gaming, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

LoG looks kind of interesting, but I'm not sure if it's my cup of tea. Regardless, it could be a good sign of things to come.

This... actually looks pretty cool!

By the way, the roguelike/dungeon crawler never really went away. It's just been relegated to no-budget open-source stuff for the past two decades.

Pretty long and spoilerish video. (contains begining of first level) Kinda funny too but not the way author intented. (he get lost on simple layout of first level + missed the lock on wall twice and runs around looking for another door to unlock) Thats why i didnt want post it here.

I'm in two minds about this. Music is fantastic, artist is absolutely terrifying.

First picture aside, that beard makes me think I'm looking at some kind of musician version of Alan Moore.

He does have that insane wizard look to him, for sure. Seems sensible for a fantasy adventure spectacle.

On another note, I am way too excited about searching for odd looking bricks to click in every single wall throughout the entire game. I never knew how much I missed secret areas in games until they went away.

This site might be of some help with answering that question: http://roguebasin.roguelikedevelopment.org/index.php/Main_Page

Unangband (http://roguebasin.roguelikedevelopment.org/index.php/Unnamed_Angband) is probably my favorite one on the site, though I may or may not be slightly biased about that due to my schoolgirl crush on the developer.

There are now 3 threads dedicated to this game. I suggest moving the discussion to this thread as it's the longest by several pages.
