The Chameleon (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20041210b&page=1) looks like a great class. But I've got a problem with it: It seems designed to be started at level 6 (8 ranks in the highest skill to qualify), and it's ten levels... but there's nowhere to go when it's done. It doesn't much feed into other PrC's, you can't really qualify for other things based on it, and so on. It just feels lacking to me in that regard.

So here's an attempt at expanding the class for another five levels:

All class features work exactly like the base class feature - triple aptitude, of course, is just double aptitude with three aptitudes. The bonus feat was thrown in at 11th to cut down on the dead levels. Exception: The caster level from Chamelon levels doesn't increase as quickly after 10th. Your caster level goes up by only one per class level from 11th on, meaning that your caster level never exceeds your character level +5 from class levels alone.

Qualification (Ex): At level 11, your Aptitude Focus will let you meet prerequisites for the purposes of qualifying for your Chameleon Bonus Feats only (this does not let your Aptitude Focus qualify you for regular feats or for prestige classes).

Edit: The 30 CL at L20 thing might be hurtful. Make CL = 5 + class level?

Maybe you should also expand the foci, only having arcane, divine, combat, rogue, and wild is actually fairly limited. Add in incarnum, psionics, pact, shadow, invocation, truenaming, and the sublime way and you can literally mimic almost any class, which is what the chameleon is supposed to be able to do.

... fairly sensible, although it's already CL 20 at class level 10, character level 15. Perhaps just limit it to that 5 points above your class level....

There's limits to what you can do without utterly breaking something. Incarnum and Pact probably wouldn't be too bad... but Psionics, Shadow, Invocation, and Truenaming (I'm unfamiliar with the Sublime Way - at least by that name - and can't comment) start getting into the funny business of 'OK, how do you pick Powers / Mysteries / Invocations / Utterances known? You cannot simply let it change a few times every day; that could very easily make the base class you're mimicking much less useful than the mimicker.

However... if your daily focus let you qualify for your two bonus feats, then most of those can be mimicked at least a little bit by the feats to do so from the same books....
