*Yes I know it existed, but I hadn't heard anyone talk about it since the 80s up until very recently.

They had some funny articles, particularly stupid monsters of D&D past (and a few current).

If you're talking about the odd popularity of the current generation of MLP, there are quite a few fan-made options out there.
