Setting flavor
"In the days of yore mankind was joined together as one. Our empire spread across the great ocean to the four corners of Eridia. Man became proud of his accomplishments, figuring himself to be one with the gods. Using great Magicks long ago lost to us they summoned the Daemons from the planes of the Abyss and bound them to Eridia as servants. Life was simple for a time with the Daemons serving us, no man needed to lift a finger to survive, but the Daemons were not content to be man's servants. They broke their bonds and rebelled against mankind. In that time the five tribes of Eridia fled from the great force of the Daemons. For many years we were hunted to near extinction. In this time Nerius sought after the gods of old. He travelled to Mount Seldrith and prayed for seventy days without food or water. On the Seventieth day the Pantheon appeared before him and gave him the power to banish the daemons back to the Abyss. Saying to him "We have allowed this catastrophe to fall onto mankind that he might learn the price of his arrogance. Teach them now how to serve us and we will deliver you from the hands of the Daemons for as long as you follow the true gods. If you or your descendents ever fail we will again loose the Deamons on you.” From that day forward Nerius strove to teach the people to worship the Pantheon and the Daemons were banished from our world."

Book of the Pantheon; chapter 1 verses 1-10

"We are a peaceful religion. I have shown you our book of prophecy, and you have seen the miracles bestowed upon me by Telrith." The old man begged at the foot of the Paladin.

The Paladin looked at the man with a feeling of disgust. They were all the same, zealots blinded to the nature of their "gods". These sacrilegious dogs would drag down the wrath of The Pantheon onto the land of Nerius and they wouldn't even know why. They had to be stopped before the true gods grew angry at man once again and unleashed the Daemons on Eridia again to wipe eliminate their flawed creations. The fathers had spoken, decrying the followers of Telrith to be false prophets. The word of the fathers was law and the Paladins were here to enforce the law. They were the holy arm of the church.

"The Església has spoken. You are ordered to cease your profane worship of the Daemon Telrith. You are blinded by its magic old man, tricked into believing this Telrith is of the Pantheon but you are mistaken. Denounce this foolish worship now and your lives will be spared. If you insist on your sacrilege we will be forced to purge the world of your disgusting souls."

"I can not denounce Telrith for he is truly a god. I fear his rebuke more then I do any weapon you can use against me. Know this Paladin; your church has become corrupt. You have all beco......."

The end of his sentence choked in his mouth as a bastard sword was plunged through his body.

"They have chosen to side with their Daemon and must be eradicated, may the Pantheon destroy your soul if you let even a single child survive. These people are a blight on Eridia and would bring down the wrath of the gods."

Screams punctuated the cold silence long into the night as the Paladins went about their gruesome work. One by one they destroyed the followers of Telrith without mercy or regret. They believed in the holy word of the church and knew that these people were foul idolaters. Hours later when a still silence finally crept over the village the soldiers under the Paladins command went about gathering the bodies of the slain villagers. Stacking them in a heap in the center of the village they lit the bodies on fire.

"Do you figure the church is right?" one of the soldiers asks as they marched towards Tira, the capital of The Consortium.

"Of course they are right. The gods talk to the fathers like they did that Nerius fella. Ye ought not to question them. Ye wouldn't want to bring down the wrath o' the Pantheon now would ye?" said another in a hushed voice.

"I suppose you have a point." the first muttered looking back towards the bonfire with a twinge of regret. He hoped they were right, because if they were wrong then every one of them were murderers.

This is a project I have been working on for a long time. It is set on the planet of Eridia and will focus on the land of Nerius. Thousands of years ago this land was torn apart by the Daemon Wars. Eridia is split by a giant Ocean into two continents, Nerius and Tera. The church has spread its influence over all of Nerius's different countries and is the only accepted religion in the land. Over the years they have become corrupt with power and act as Tyrants destroying those that stand in their way in the war against "Daemon worshipers". Despite all of this the ancient ways are starting to come back and many people have begun committing themselves to Daemons, sacrificing their souls to their service in exchange for Daemon Magick. Technology is around approximately renaissance era, muskets are rare but they do exist. Most people still live by the sword. Horse drawn carriages are the preferred method of travel for those wealthy enough to afford one and roads are mostly just dirt paths except for in and around cities where cobblestone is the norm.

The Tribes of Eridia
Humans-
The humans of Eridia are a hardy race, hailing from the first tribe. They make a living off of the sweat of their back. Mostly farmers, and loggers though some go on to become leaders within the church. Most humans follow one of the religions of the church though a few have been known to seek the old Magicks of the Daemons.

Narzal-
The Narzal are a large race of people hailing from the second tribe. They stand anywhere from 6' to near 7'. When the Daemons rebelled the second tribe fled to the caves and as such Narzal have evolved black skin and the ability to see in both the infrared and visible spectrums of light by extending a second inner lid over their eyes. When the Narzal emerged from their underground homes they brought with them stone masonry and achitecture, giving them a well earned place in the society of Nerius. Narzal tend not to follow a true religion instead they practice something close to ancestor worship, asking the the ancestors for wisdom and guidance.

Ilari-
The Ilari are a lithe race hailing from the third tribe. When the Daemons rebelled the Ilari took to the coastal areas and eventually evolved to be amphibious. The have a set of gill behind their ears that allow them to live underwater. Their eyes are a shimmering grey with no pupils. They are slightly smaller then most humans standing at about 5' 3". Master of the waters, the Ilari control commerce on the oceans and some have turned to piracy, using explosives that can rip a ship stern to bow. Most Ilari worship Perin, God of the Deep, and Lilith, Goddess of the Tides. Both deities are accepted by the church as members of the Pantheon.

Uazi-
The Uazi are a diminutives race of people that hail from the fourth tribe. The stand no taller then 4' and have a gold complexion which blends with their desert homelands. In their normal state they have short lives living no longer then 20 years until their hearts give out and they die. Because of this they have evolved the ability to move their consciousness into the body of the other tribes. This can either be done willingly or forcefully. Their culture is split between those that beleive the bond should only be willingly taken and those that beleive they should make the bond regardless of the targets idea's. Due to their short life span and weaknesses the people of the fourth tribe are easily the best healers in all of Nerius. Uazi mostly worship Eridia herself. Eridia is accepted by the church as the creator of the world.

Lira-
The Lira are much the same as humans and hail from the fifth tribe. When the Daemons rebelled they fled to the continent of Tera. Little is known about what they did in the thousands of year’s separating the Daemon Wars and present day but from some reason a few of them have returned to the continent of Nerius. They brought with them muskets and taught the other tribes how to fashion them. Many think this is not all they have created on their homeland but since the ocean is nearly impossible to cross no one can be for sure. The Lira, though small in number have become the premier weapons dealers of Nerius. The Lira tend to believe that Eridia is simply a cosmic accident and that gods are simply man made things to cope after the Daemon Wars.

Teral-
The Teral hail from the same continent as the Lira and seem to have an odd relationship with them. Nothing is known about the genesis of the Teral as they do not hail from one of the five tribes of Eridia. They stand from 5' 9" to 5' 11" with little to no variation above or below this height. They have pointed ears and tend to have red hair. They chose a name at the age of 5 and that is what the go by. It is said that no two Teral have the same chosen name but this seems strange as they don't seem to have any unified government. The Teral have yet to cement a place into the economy of Nerius, each individual tends to bring something different to the field and must find their own place. Little is known of the Teral religion and they don’t tend to talk about it.

Església is the religious body of the land of Nerius. Most people refer to them using the common name "The Church" It was created shortly after the Deamon wars as a way to weed out potentially harmful, "false" religions. It operates as the custodians of the worship of many different gods. Any time a new religion is discovered The Església will send a Preist to test the validity of the new religion. To be excepted into The church a religion must show three things. First they must have some form of scripture. This may be as short or long as it needs to be but must teach the basic tenants of that religion. Secondly they must have a prophet or leader who will become the representative to the ruling body of the church from that religion. Lastly they must show the ability to perform miracles. After the three requirements are met the Preist will further investigate the new religion for a period of time. This time changes depending on the preist and the current situation. After the Priest has determined wether or not the religion is "true" or "false" he will return to The Church and make his report. If a church is accepted they are allowed to teach their religion in the Great hall. If a religion is rejected they are ordered to stop teaching their religion at once. If a religion rebels against the decision of The Església and continues to teach their religion Paladins are sent to enforce the will of The Chruch. Paladins are authorized to use anything in their power to enforce the will of The Church, even if that means killing everyone teaching the religion.

The Església is spread throughout the land of Nerius but is lead from the Great Hall in the capital of Nerius.

Ranks within the Església

The Countries of Nerius;
The Tribes of Four
With a hierchial structure based on the body they obtain in their pilgrimage and a tendency for quick absolute decisions the Uazi don't usually settle in groups larger then a hundred. Thus there are a great number of individual tribes within what is called the Tribes of Four. They inhabit the deserts of the midlands and every four years they send representatives to a meeting to discuss matters important to all of the tribes, settle land disputes, and negotiate marriages. With their constantly changing hierarchy and splitting groups it can be confusing for an outsider to keep track to the representatives from one gathering to the next.
Capital; Moves every four years
Population; Unkown
Climate; Desert

The Kerus Empire
Streatching over much of the northeastern territory east of their namesake, the Kerus mountains, they are one of the most powerful human kingdoms in Nerius. Almost every citizen of Kerus is human due to a belief that the other four tribes of Eridia were tainted by Daemon magic and that they alone were spared by the gods. Kerus law holds members of the other tribes to be second class citizens at best and at worst, little better then slaves. They have a loose caste structure based on nobility. Kerus nobles are known for "employing" sometimes hundreds of workers from the other tribes. They keep control through the use of intimidation. This practice became even more common when the Lira came to Nerius bringing with them their Electrasteel. This curious metal absorbs solar energy and stores it as electric energy. Given enough time to charge a rod made of this metal will hold enough charge to kill anyone struck by it. They are sheathed in glass holsters so that even when they are put away they are storing energy. The people od Kerus are best known for thier logging. They supply most of the lumber in the land of Nerius. The national religion of Kerus is the worship of Titan, God of Might.
Capital; Isol
Population; 8, 321 citizens, 10, 576 workers
Climate; Harsh mountain weather

The Kingdom of Hira
Resting on the western side of the Kerus mountains the culturally mixed society is a stark contrast to it's closest neighbours, the Empire of Kerus. They live by a beleif that anything is acceptable as long as it does not infringe on the rights of others. As such it is the destination of many wealthy peoples from all over Nerius, boasting any form of entertainment one could possibly come up with. With a steady stream of income from tourists Hira doesn't need to export anything and has more then enough money to import whatever they desire. The state religion of Hira is the worship of Their name sake Hirae, Goddess of Fullfilment.
Capital; Hira
Population; Varies with the season
Climate; Moderate

The Consortium
The consortium controls large tracts of lands to the southeast covering a large part of the coast. It is headed by a council of 4. One representative from the Ilari, Humans, Narzal, and Uazi. The Consortium is the most devout of the countries of Nerius as it is the home of The Església. For a citizen of the consortium it is the highest honor to join the church's ranks. The people of the Consortium are kind, if a little overjealous at times. The council is elected by a majority vote by their respective tribe. currently the council is split down the middle on whether or not to accept the Lira into the council. The Uazi and Narzal are for their admitance where the Ilari and Human distrust them due to their beliefs about Eridia and the Pantheon. They are also hung up on another vote, suggested about 50 years ago, to kick the Uazi out of the council.
Capital; Tira
Population; 509,257
Climate; Heavy rainfall year round

Tisra
Tisra is a Ilari controlled nation that claims all of the coastal land not claimed by the consortium, as well as the reefs that the Ilari call home under the waves. Tisra controls all commerce on the oceans and is known for high tarrifs on non Ilari trading vessals. Piracy is their number one issue, this is because the pirates often attack a ship before it has payed it's tarrifs and piracy intimidates many merchants into not using the ocean to ship their goods. Tisra has offered a temporary home to the Lira since their arrival on Nerius some 30 years ago. With it's control of shipping Tisra is a wealthy nation, most citizens have a winter home in Hira.
Capital; Tirac
Population; 25,921
Climate; varies depending on location. Tends to be moderate.

UnGarog- Meaning, United People in Narzal tongue or literally "One People"
Most times Ungarog is a country in name only. It is comprised of 11 "city-states" that are self governing and often war with each other over food, land, religion, and just about anything else that they can find to use as an exscuse. These wars have been known to last decades and are amongst the bloodiest conflicts in the history of Nerius. They will however unite under a single banner in times of emergency. When this happens an emporer and council are elected to lead UnGarog out of whatever crisis they are dealing with. This has only happened 5 times in the recorded history of UnGarog though it may have occured before the Narzal rejoined the surface races as there is little documentation of Narzal life before that time. The Narzal are not a dim race, however before surfacing they did not have a written language. They used a system of historical narrative that the other tribes tend to beleive has warped their history. Out of the recorded instances of unity two have been for war, another two for famine and disease, while the most recent was called when a bloody conflict between the Theran and Geros city-states threatened to delve UnGarog into complete civil war. The emporer and council have yet to give up power though the problem seems to be resolved for the time being. Many Narzal are growing impatient with the current Emporer over his retention of emergency power.
Capital; The home of the current Emporer
Population; 1,001,256
Climate; varies by city-state

Prominent city-states;
Garos- A people disciplined for war almost from birth. They earn their living by hiring out mercenaries to other city-states
Theran- Probably the most sophisticated of the eleven city-states. They make their money by selling seige weapons.
Tiros- Tiros is best known for it's spies, which seems odd when you look at the large Narzal but their dark skin and ability to see in the infrared spectrum gives them a leg up on other nations.
Felar- Generally a peacfull people that are best known for their masonry, and architecture.

I really like what you have going so far, and I can't wait to see more. If there is any specifics you would like me or others to evaluate please say so, and you will be more likely to get responses.

Big things I would like some feedback on is anything that feels out of pplace in the setting. I'll be posting more on the races soon and I would deffinently like some feedback on them as it is a big step for me to create all new races. I've done some homebrew's before but only with Phb races and system. I'm changing the system a little and I'll be putting stuff up in the main thread for balance issues since I suck at crunch. lol.

The tribes term seems out of place. Peoples might be a better option, as tribes imply a unified government, as your Uazi seem to have. I would like more explanation on how the church works and its actual morality, as having an open pantheon and then killing anything slightly heretic is tough to reconcile. PM me if you need more explanation on that.

The reason behind the zealous destruction of those that do not follow church beliefs is their understanding of what the Pantheon said to Nerius, who of course the continent is named after. When the Daemons originally were unleashed Nerius was told by the gods that they had allowed this to happen because of man kinds pride and their worship of false gods. They said that they would stop it but if man kind were ever to fall from grace as they had before then they would lose the Daemons again on the world.

As for the tribes thing it was put in as a reference to the fact that before the Daemon War all of the races were human. When they were scattered the high magical quality of the world caused rapid evolution however every culture maintained stories of what life had been before the Daemon wars so they still identify themselves as tribes after the original tribes that were scattered. I may change it though as I understand your comment.
