I recently found an excel generator and it has the stats for a Doppelganger built in. I really wanted to use it, but my DM will not permit me to, unless I can find the book reference for it. Is it a book, or magazine? Even the compendium doesn't list it, so I am wondering if the Excel was made with Homebrew rules.

Where do I find the rules for Doppelgangers as PCs? Are they better than Changelings? Is there a major difference between the two?

Doppelgangers are listed among the Rules for Monster PCs in the first Monster Manual. They get bonuses to Int and Cha, if I recall.

Unfortunately, there is no support for proper Doppelganger PCs that I know of. However, in Eberron, doppelgangers are the same as changelings, so you could make the argument to your DM that you should be able to use feats tailored to changelings that are listed in the Eberron Campaign Setting.

Also, this woulda been better in the 4E sub-forum.
