So, I'm going to be playing a Lawful Good Azurin (Born to Kalashtar parents) Ardent/Incarnate that PrCs into Soul Manifester.

For those of you that aren't familiar with D&D, what this means is essentially the character is from a race of extremely passionate people who has chosen to combine two different forms of magic that both rely on trying to embody certain concepts and ideals, which naturally also requires a certain amount of zeal. The end result is a character that's going to have an extremely strong sense of right and wrong, and be pretty vocal about it.

Of course, this can lead to tragedy if I'm telling the group not to eat babies and then the group keeps wanting to eat babies and the whole thing devolves into a petty slapfight. So, in preparation, I thought I'd make a habit of watching really idealistic and impressive speeches (Probably my first step is going to be to play through Tales of Symphonia again because oh man that game was full of em.) But I thought I'd ask the community here if they had any great suggestions for material for an adventurer to draw on (and yes, I've already seen all of Doctor Who. Except the newest season because I'm a little behind)

Since I'm a broke college student, links to free suggested material or a simple "It's on Netflix" will do. For best results, fantasy material rather than real world examples.

Ah, Tales of Symphonia, that's a great source! I've been known to channel some Lloyd Irving when playing Chaotic Good characters, though I couldn't give you any quotes... it's been too long since I've played that game.

Have you seen the excellent Game of Thrones HBO show? (or read the books). Ned Stark is my favorite Lawful Good guy ever, and has a lot of moments where he tries to bring justice and honor into a corrupt, jaded government at his peril. Here is a relevant clip of him shaming his king out of a mother/baby killing that might be helpful for ideas.

A little (simplified) context on the scene: the current king led a rebellion and killed the Mad King Aryes who was a really bad guy who liked burning people for fun. But, Aryes had children who escaped, one of which is now a pregnant teenager, gathering an army in a country across the ocean. If she lives, she has a very real claim to the throne and could start a war. It's good stuff.

If you haven't seen it, I advise seeing if you can rent the dvds or get the books from a library.

Some Captain Picard for you:

Ooh, Picard. Do you have any Sisko?

A classic. Thanks for reminding me of that.

Sisko talking to Worf (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HSJtJZLyls).

Sisko talking to Jem'hadar in Rocks and Shoals. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-Wl5b6EqeY)

Sisko's speech as he abandon's the Station. (http://youtu.be/cl7Y8fd5Ufc?t=7m31s)

Unfortunately, Sisko is a bit, well, harder and more cynical than Picard, so I don't think he has the same number of speaches that fit with your theme. Not that they're bad: his speech at the end of In the Pale Moonlight is in my opinion one of the best. Just not for the character you're proposing.

I was gonna say Sisko's not exactly one I associated with speeches. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKR_RWkLgAE)

Well, yeah, there's that too.

I'm reminded of Sfdebris's review of the first episode of Deep Space Nine, where he talks about the difference between Sisko and Picard. The latter is the old version of an officer and a gentleman, while the former is the current idea of a line officer. I think it's a pretty good summary.

But he can live with it... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-YyL7X4CWw)

In A Pale Moon Light... one epic long speech by Sisko :smallwink:

And to be fair - Archer does get a few good ones when he's not talking about Gazelles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKDQtlgct6g)

And how about some Stargate - Daniel ripping apart jerkass precursors (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7xNDJsFGzU) or Weir before they dial Atlantis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eurDsv9jMCw).

Just a few favourites of mine

Final proof he is by no mean idealistic though...

Exactly. If this was about good speeches, that would be fine. But it's about good speeches for an immensely idealistic character.

Also, too more good ones:

Why I supplied Archer, Daniel, and Weir instead of something by, let's say, Adama or Chriton or McKay :smalltongue:

Right, but we weren't arguing against any of your later suggestions, only your first.

Oh my goodness

I couldn't get ahold of Tales of Symphonia 1 before I went back to college, but I friend offered me tos2 and I decided I'd just play that, since I'd beaten 1 anyway

Tos2 is everything I could've hoped for. Every ten minutes, COURAGE IS THE MAGIC THAT TURNS DREAMS INTO REALITY.
