I didn't see a thread like this, so I thought I might as well create it. Here you can request, and post background music.

To start us off, I'm looking for a tune to fit an ancient, undead-infested temple. It should be something gloomy, obviously. Something more similar to 'ambient sounds' than music would be perfect (for example: quiet moans, creaking, crumbling, shambling etc.)

How about this, for ambient sounds?

Or if you prefer music, I use this for suspense:

Finally, a track which combines some music with ambience:

Those are great, thanks!
The first one is very appropriate, as the ruins are flooding somewhat. The third one, on the other hand, is very creepy and thus would fit even better.

EDIT: While we're at it, I (and many others, I presume) would have an use for town/village music, big city music and forest travel music. You know, the kind stuff you'd probably find in roleplaying videogames...

I think this music (http://rpgmusics.com/zelda-phantom-hourglass/the-ghost-ship)really suits the enviroment and also another song from Phantom Hourglass I am incapable of finding.

Ok, this is a bit on the dorky side, but how about Bettina Khal? She's a German flautist. I think her intention was to be the Kenny G of the flute recorder, but she only got far enough to cut some albums. Still her music is charming and easy enough to ignore.

Here's a song from Tanze der Flute, called Morgenwalzer (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/50887717/01%20Morgenwalzer%20copy.mp3). It's appropriate for fantasy traveling music (non-combat), in town, or even in an elven or fairy glade. She doesn't do BBEG style music, or anything epic. But you could still host half your average campaign over it without the music distracting from the story.

I've actually got a ton of great sources for RPG background music on my website. Give it a look! (http://lookingforgroup.net/index.htm#sounds)

If you're trying to do something horror related, I cannot recommend the soundtracks to the Thief trilogy enough.

Shalebridge Cradle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Md0FLVpdPnw) is iconic, and fits perfectly with your request of ambient-style music with footsteps and whispers, but just browsing the selection that's available from the games has helped me invent more than one dungeon for my Ravenloft games

Also worth checking out would be the World of Warcraft soundtrack - regardless of what you think of the game itself, WoW has some brilliant music. Just be careful not to use iconic themes because chances are one of your players has played the game and will remember it. Try Naxxramas (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddcDtn0GyrQ&list=PL4F78D99446EBEB10&index=87&feature=plpp_video)here as a starting point.

If you're going for creepy nothing works quite as well as Midnight Syndicate

This is just a quick example. They have a large library of work that is fantastic for something creepy.

We don't use it often but sometimes we either put soundtracks from movies or games in the background.

Conan the Barbarian is a great example.
The Portal 2 Soundtrack has some really creepy tunes that could fit.
If Amnesia has a Soundtrack try to use it and see players (who played that game) snap at the table.
Rhapsody on Fire has some nice songs for background music.
One Minute from hell (I think they are called that way) make really epic music.
Another soundtrack I can recommend is Kingdom Hearts 1 2 and Birth by sleep as the Final Fantasy ones. Especially Final Fantasy 7 has tunes that could make your players nervous and unsettling (in the sense of "DO SOMETHING!!!!").
(As soon as I have heard the Tera Soundtrack I might be able to recommend that one too.)
The Devil May Cry series has some good tunes too.

Hope this helps.

I have to recommend the Touhou music. Those games have so many good songs. There are a few in particular that I'd recommend: Necrofantasia (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=195XntreoMc) and Nuclear Fusion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xy_-7OXophY), for crazy, hectic boss battles, and Border of Life (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zis2TtxdFjQ&feature=relmfu) and Septette for the Dead Princess (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKbKOC2QNgg) for more elegant (but no less dangerous) ones. There are many, many more, far too many for me to link to them all, but I'll list as many as I can. And if you like the feel of one, but it isn't quite right, search up some remixes. There are dozens, if not hundreds, for all of them. If they distract the players, you should be able to find a slower, softer remix for it.

As for your request, Silver... eh, the best I can come up with is Lullaby of a Deserted Hell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-QacmltD4g). More mournful than creepy, unfortunately, but hey, maybe you can find a use for it.

If you've got anything in particular in mind, ask me. I'll do what I can.

And for epic boss fights, the Kingdom Hearts music is also pretty damn good too. I haven't heard very much of it, so I can't recommend any particular song, but a search of the 'net should find something good.

And the perfect song for a Bard: Phantom Ensemble (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9wHYiicY5I&feature=relmfu).

I second the Midnight Syndicate motion for the specific sorts of things you're looking for.

Also have a look at this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=210048) thread.
