[TRoS] What do I need to solve The Riddle of Steel?

So, I've heard some interesting things about this game and I'd like to try it out. But, I have no idea what is necessary to play. I guess I'm looking for general information on it - is there a 'core ruleset' as one sees with SR4 or D&D? Are there any major issues/errata/ancillaries of which I should be aware? Does anyone have experience with this game they would like to share?

The game is old and out of print; there is iirc the core book and three supplements (monster book, book focusing on combat, more general supplemental book). It's fairly widely considered to have been supplanted by Burning Wheel (including by the author, iirc).
