Ioun stones worth close to 2,000 gp

Hey, looking for an ioun stone to make into an item familiar. anyone know of any ioun stones I can get as close to the 2,000 gp as possible? My character is a paladin/bard maenad with psionic ability, so I can use almost anything.

Can you get away with a Knowstone? You can use it to know another spell as a bard, and it can cost 2,000gp. I believe Knowstones are Dragon Magazine.

Does it float in the air like a ioun stone? I might use that, but I have to know how it works.

Cheapest ones are the dull grey ellipsoidal ones mentioned in the DMG. Value would appear to be 0gp though, is this too low ?

Based on the Stat boosting ones, Ioun Stones are just Wondrous items with their price doubled to make them slotless.

So an Ioun Stone granting a +1 Resistance bonus to Saves, +1 to AC, acting as a 1st level Pearl of Power or a Phylactery of Faithfulness would cost 2000gp.

Not that it really matters, 25gp is pretty close to 0gp for most adventurers.

I think they were in some random issue of Dragon.

They're also 25gp on the Pathfinder SRD.

They're also 25gp on the Pathfinder SRD.It was in 3.0. I'm AFB right now, but it was either the Psionics Handbook or the Arms & Equipment Guide.

Also, there's a weapon enhancement in the A&EG that lets you embed an ioun stone in a weapon. Considering how easy it is to steal an ioun stone, I'd suggest grabbing one. Preferably something you can keep on all the time, like a necklace of natural weaponry (from Savage Species).

Shame they missed the obvious one - navigation in a weightless plane, since they are a gyroscope.:smallsmile:

If PF material is allowed, they added a lot of new Ioun Stones in a splat book ("broken" variants of existing ones, but often entirely different effects and many have much more reasonable costs) and you can keep them safely in a wayfinder (500 GP, acts as a mundane compass and can Light at will too)
