I'm planning on making a Wizard 1/Spellthief 1/Master Specialist X/War Weaver X with Master Spellthief. I'll of course have to give up two schools and am thinking of even going Focused Specialist to get even more spells. So my question is, what wizard schools of magic have the best buff spells, and which have absolutely none or only a handful of crappy ones?

I'm also planning on trading in my familiar and get Obtain Familiar instead and take the feat that allows me to give spells to my familiar, since after that I could just rest for 8 hours and regain my spells, while my familiar keeps his and I could just steal them from him as a willing target, effectively granting me more low-level spells. I'm also intending on going into Spellguard of Silverymoon once I find which book it was in again, so that if I can steal personal spells from other casters I can cast it on my whole party.

Abjuration, Conjuration and Transmutation are your best schools for buffs.

Necromancy is your worst, followed closely by Enchantment, which has the Heroism line and... Not much else. (Rage?)

Evocation and Illusion are the middle of the pack. If your DM rules that Shadow Conjuration can be used for Contingency, then you absolutely want to ban Evocation (you can pick up Contingency and Evocation's other Greatest Hits by proxy), because the Invisibility line is pretty much Illusion-exclusive, but if you value Contingency highly and can't get it in shadow form, you will want Evocation instead (although most will say to ban Evocation and keep Illusion anyway, because it's your only other Will-heavy school and the Invisibility and Image lines are amazing).

You mean Shadow Evocation me thinks?

Also buffs... Yeah someone MUST make a list of those as I always have to start from scratch with every buffer I make >_<. Its 50% my fault for not being consistent in my Googlings. But still... buff handbook would be amazing ^^

Aside from that, Lonely Tylenol is straight on the money IMO.

Abjuration has you "no spells"[Repel is quite nice if optimized, so are karmic auras, but they are all "personal", can war waver fix that? I do not know] and contains the means to "liberate" enemies from their buffs to gain numerical advantage for your side.

Conjuration and Transmutation are... well. They can do anything and everything, so its ALWAYS a concrete choice [don't forget ze broken abrupt jaunting if you going Focused Spec[conjuration]].

Illusion.... with clever use[and DM knowing how it works] breaks the game flat-out. And with casual use, well still amazing. ^^ Silent Image for everything and Persistent Image for some Major league Bluffing [silent still Persistent Image gives you ability to create any situation with in area of the spell[which is HUGE] you want! Want a sudden police raid? sure! A dragon assaulting city? Why not! A cute girl flirting with bad guy while rouge snatches his pants? Go for it! ^^ Sudden battlefield reinforcements? You bet you behind! ^^] So yeah illusion is an amazing back up school with just few spells.
