Building a beast tamer

I'd like to build a mundane character based around having a brood of wild beasts at his disposal, but I have no idea what class to base it around. druid would be the best to fit the bill of utilizing animals to their maximum potential, but I want it to be non-magical. Any ideas to help me out?

Ranger is probably going to be your best bet as a base class, though you could try with Barbarian or even something like Factotum. Prestige classes that would appeal to the idea would be Beastmaster (CAdv) or Beast Heart Adept (Dungeonscape). They both provide companions, animals for the first and magic beasts for the second. You could also try Animal Lord from CAdv.
