Was looking through the Dragonlance books and found a nice little knack on the "master" base class.

"Faithful Aide: The master professional has acquired a
talented apprentice, student, bodyguard, or servant. This
knack functions like the Leadership feat, but it applies only to a cohort, and the master professional’s Leadership score
is equal to his ranks in a chosen Profession skill plus his
Charisma bonus. The aide can be a character of any class,
although usually another master, and is treated exactly as
any other cohort."

Now combining this with the leadership feat you get two cohorts.

Then you add "improved cohort" and "Close cohort" feats from dragon magazine and Heroes of battle. Please note the line "and is treated EXACTLY as any other cohort" implying you can A. Have more than one, and B. Both feats apply to both cohorts.

With this combo you have 3 characters, all at the same level. Effectively letting you run 3 PCs at once!

Son of a...DAMMIT! I just went back and double checked it..I should've read it closer instead of just assuming the "Your cohort’s maximum level increases by 1" was the be all and end all.

Edit: Oh well...at least you still get to run a level 9, and two level 8's right?

Unless I'm reading it wrong, "any OTHER" would mean that yes. Unless my grammar skills need work, in order for their to be "any other" there needs to be more than one.

*shrug* I would have read that as "Any other cohort gained from another feat or ability" but thats just me.

Does it state anywhere that you CAN'T have more then one Cohort? Leadership + Undead Leadership? If it were up to me I'd say no because it does say that with your Leadership feat you should


You’re free to disallow this feat if it would disrupt the campaign.

Wait does that mean you could also take Dragon Cohort since the feat doesn't say that it replaces the leadership cohort, just that you "gain one".

For 3 cohorts? Maybe take undead leadership for number 4?

Wow, you could run a whole party off of one player, I guess this is the answer to the age old question of "how do you play D&D with two people?"

It does imply that there are 'other' chohorts in the game-space(such as if another PC or NPC uses the ability of the class -or- there's other things that grant a cohort, like Thrallherd or Leadership(they just need to exist, not actually be used, and oh look, they do)).

It doesn't imply that you can have more than one cohort on the same PC.
