Sinrath
"Ah dinnae like it." The old Vanticras Battlemaster, Sir Ghumn Redfire, rumbled. Sitting in the back of the armored wagon, the Dwarf cradled his Ether rifle as he cast a wary look over the brim of the horse-drawn vehicle. Here, out in the wilderness, they had been forced to forge their own path, and a rather messy one at that. Clad in shiny steel plate armor, with an armored faceplate in the visage of a long-dead ancestor, the general of Vanticras was particularly sour on this venture. Barely sixty kilometers in, and they had already run across almost a regiment of Beastmen eager for their blood.

"I came in here with a hundred of me best men, an' enough powder an' shot to keep us goin' for a year under normal circumstances. Nae? We're down tae a thousand rounds an' twenty kegs of powder." He grumbled, "After tha', we'll be workin' with axes an' shields, and Beastmen ain't known for bein' wimps in a close fight. Smelly, but they ain't afraid of the kind of casualties we been throwin' at 'em."

The man across from him, dressed in a simple blue robe with gold filigree and a steel breastplate, would nod. His head was shaven bald with several tattoos on it, and the image of a gavel was painted on his breastplate. A Magus Council Judge. He looked ahead over the wagon's steel-plated siding, seemingly scanning the woods for any signs of additional hostiles.

"I concur." He said, "The situation has proven unfavorable, but our objective remains clear. We must eliminate the current aspirant for chieftain of the Beastmen tribes. Once eliminated, we will be able to withdraw and allow for aerial saturation of the area."

"Oh, aye, 'saturation'. We'll be haulin' ass to get outta these woods before yer lads start levelin' it, ye know that?" He asked with a grumble, checking his rifle for the umpteenth time, "Nae, what makes ye sure that we even are in tha right area? These Knights of Ether seem pretty damn certain, but I think their fancy armor's gettin' tae their heads! He could be plenty o' leagues away from-"

A long, continuous bellow interrupted the Dwarf's words. It was the bleating of a goat, the howling of wolves, the roars of bears, and more besides. It was the warcry of a massive group of the feral creatures. Around the wagon, the Knights of Ether could be seen reacting. Dressed in heavy steel armor bejeweled with fragments of Ether, and carrying heavy shields, the sword-wielding men locked their shields together as they readied their swords. Inside of the wagon, the Magus Council Judge was quick to fling himself over the lip of the wagon, landing with a reassuring thud amongst the Knights. The other Dwarves inside of the wagon were quick to take position, rifles jutting out from over the armored plates. All around them, hundreds of Beastmen could be seen surrounding their small four-wagon caravan. At their head, a massive, twelve-foot-tall goatman could be seen, carrying twin axes made from jagged pieces of Ether tied to sticks. His massively curled horns seemed to radiate authority and evil, as he stared at the Magus Council Judge.

"I... am Judge Pieter LeKar."

The Judge braced his footing, drawing his immaculate white gloves tight over his hands, feeling power flow through his veins. Around his waist, an Ether-studded belt flashed with bright blue light, radiating energy as he drew from it, "By decree of the Council, I have been mandated with the arrest of the aspirant Chieftain Bloodhorn. Resist, and I will be forced to unleash the full authority of my station. Comply, and you shall live."

There was no sound for a moment, before the howl began anew, the Chieftain charging forward towards the Judge before its allies followed suit. Pieter drew his hands inward, taking a deep breath as he focused the energies inside of himself, before pressing his hands outward and exhaling.

The ensuing geyser of flame stretched for fifty yards in a straight line, expanding into a cone as he drew his hands outwards until his arms were perpendicular to his legs. The massive cone of flame vanished, leaving only the remains of a score of dead Beastmen, their leader included. This did not abate their charge, but his goal was complete. Switching his stance, the Judge's feet swept out in a wide kick, causing a powerful gust of wind to rush forward. It proved itself a fatal razor wind as it ended up slicing several Beastmen, and a few trees, clean in half. The Dwarf sharpshooters opened fire as the Knights of Ether prepared for the incoming charge, bullets streaking through the oncoming horde at immense velocities, ripping limbs clean off and turning internal organs into fine mists of gore and viscera.

"By decree of the Magus Council, you are all sentenced to death!"

Happenings
The Age of Ether has begun in earnest.

The Magus Council, in cooperation with the Vanticras Dwarves, have completed a series of towers across the lands. These structures, supposedly under Magus Council protection, are Etherwave towers- magical broadcast arrays that allow instantaneous communication between the capitals and leaders of various countries. Their capacity is limited considering the vast distances traveled, but they are intended to help provide instantaneous communication between all nations when desired.

Beastmen Clans are suspected of having a number of aspirant Chieftains. The Knights of Ether, Magus Council, and Dwarven Kingdom of Vanticras are all cooperating in an effort to stomp out a potential future Beastmen incursion.

The Dragon King has been rumored to be entering a period of isolationism: Though whether this recent lack of raids is due to the potential threat of the Beastmen Clans and Ogre Tribes beginning incursions, or due to some devious machination, is unknown.

The Ogre Clans appear to be launching several incursions into the lands of the Sylphan Elves. The Elves are holding their own with an admirable combination of ambushes, nomadic migration, and daring raids, but the Ogres seem to be working to get their fill of Elf flesh for the coming seasons- remarkably, there seem to be reports of them even taking captives from the villages.

The Seaward Shogunate has announced an active interest in the reclaiming the Mare Dal Sarat from the Abyss-spawned Sho'rak Horde. Considering the viciousness known of the Abyssal race and their infestation on the islands of that area, they appear to be entering talks with the Salm Republic on the idea of an incursion to claim some of the outlying islands.

The Jotun of Ur appear to be busy constructing a fleet of naval ships, vessels of truly impressive size and armament. For what purpose is unsure, but they have begun greedily gobbling up whatever metals they can tear from their lands.

The Demethian Empire has, in a similar move, begun taking to the skies: Currently, they appear to be preoccupied with the construction of a number of large dirigible-style airships, massive floating platforms held aloft by reinforced gas bladders. Their exact role is unknown, but the sight of massive gas bladders being rapidly filled is hardly uncommon around their area, especially as their research and development continues on.

The Black Court also appears to be active, in a more subtle role: In the mountain valleys between Hurt and Khoulory, between the lands of the Pantheon's Theocratic Union, the Demethian Empire, and the Kingdom of Ghares, a large number of undead have been spotted, consisting of skeletons, Wights, Vampires, zombies, and other such undead- intelligent and otherwise. They appear to be moving through the area, though they have actively attacked several villages in the area and razed them to the ground. Reports indicate that a powerful necromancer by the name of Ghallal is leading this migrating force.

A squat little man, no more then three-feet in height, and easily more round then the larger races, ran with much haste along the winding twisting tunnels of Tarth. For deep inside this mountain, near it's core, sat a lone figure. A mighty Gnomish king, or as their people had called their leaders, "Councilor Augustien! I bring word of the outside world."
And so begun the little gnomish runner's retelling of the events that have transpired in recent years. The "Councilor", as he was called, listened with mock interest. More occupied by the jingling of golden chains ad baubles on his shoes, or fussing with his gilded linens and robes. The over-dressed individual cared little for these formalities.

As all of the gnomish people knew well, titles and labels were pointless among their kind. A person in power, often stayed that way until they aged too far to be of use, or until they were eliminated. Assassination was not common however, as most Gnomish leaders had the same interest in mind.

Gold! All any Councilor has yet wanted for it's people are endless riches. And the way they achieved this is through incredible technological and magical advancements. So it was understandable how the aged Augustien would respond when he heard of the goings-on of the Demethian empire.
"Then you are dismissed little runner. Return to the forges immediately, tell the laborers that we have work to do. No overtime and no rations until I see progress. If our enemies have taken to the skies then so shall we! We shall better their innovation and claim it for the Inglorious Gnomish Technocracy!"

Communications to the "Orc's of the Fallen Tree" (Defensive ESP = 4)

On screen you see a quaint fellow, no larger then perhaps your smallest youngling, and easily twice as round, perhaps with a gut larger then your own. The stubby fingers and legs would belittle the ingeniousness of these technological masters.

"Hmm, and what in the name of the good Council are you? I have yet seen something so repulsive. Alas, if it is talks you want, you shall have it. We shall meet at the edge of the river of Dunkelfurt. There you may speak your piece."

Missive to the Demethian Empire (Defensive ESP = 4)

The Gnomish Councilor, Augustien, appears on screen with an expression to show clear annoyance. "You of the Gnomish Technocracy of Tarth deman you reveal to us your means of achieving flight. Do not fear however, that this is a threat. If you are not to adhere to our wants, then you shall be utterly obliterated. There will be no further discussions on the matter. Thank you and have a nice day."

Orc's of the Fallen Tree

From the north poured the Orcs. Running on foot, in heavy but crudely made armor. Their steps shook the very earth, their cries as they ran sent man and beast fleeing before them alike. The small force of 500 Orcs, an Orcish fist, stampeded its way towards its intended target.

Gnomes.

Face to face meeting with the Gnomish Technocracy of Tarth, PM defense!.

A large hulking green form stands before the gnomish representatives. Dress in thick but poorly made armor, he snarls as he looks back and forth at the little men in front of him.

"I is Black Fist. See?" He shoves his blackened fist forward for examination. "See this?" He taps his heavily armored chest. "and Dis?" He slams his axe in the table. "Poorly made. No Bangs. Can't throw high enough to hit air-cowards." Black Fist leans in close to the Gnomes "How you going to fix this?"

Standing before the Orc Chieftan "Blackfist" was a plump little man in shiny and flamboyant dress. The Gnome stood maybe four-feet on his tippy-toes, and had a conical hat that made him nearly five-feet! The constant jingling and jangling of the numerous bobbles and trinkets around his person was annoying, if nothing else. The man clearly showed his pride as being Councilor of the Gnomish-Technocracy, despite the ugly brute before him.

Meeting with the Orcs of the Fallen Tree.

"Ah but I knew what you would ask of me well before our meeting was arranged. Your men are... lacking in many things, intelligence for certain, my people have the ingenuity and resources to see these problems of yours fixed. with a gleam in the nasty little gnome's eye, he made his proposal clear. "We want orcs! Simple as that. We will provide with you an armory worthy of the true ferocity and might of the Orcish people. Axes of fire and Armor made of the strongest metals. We shall design for you great canons with which to soar into orbit, and strike your foe's down from the sky. All this and more will be yours my brother Black-fist. All I ask in return is a few of your men. Return with us to the Mountains of Tarth, provide your services in defending my people in case of a siege, and your weapons will be made. Are we agreed?"

To gnomes. PM defense

"We accept. We send Orcs who know how to beat words into stones with list of what we wants."

With a roar Blackfist storms out of the meeting ground returning to the Orc's forest strong hold. The forest was not silent long. Soon heavy drums and the feet of a vast unrelenting hoard can be heard from miles away. The Orc's were on the move and heaven help any who get in their way.

The Kingdom of Ghares

Ludir, the Capital of Ghares and home to the King's Palace. From here, His Royal Highness, The King Richard Pegasus oversees the lands and extends his benevolent rule. Seated in his throne, this middle aged man, is pondering recent matters. Getting up and walking through the palace with several court members in tow, he lets his thoughts go. Eventually finding himself in front of a window, he faces northnortheast and sees a forest in the distance beyond the Ludir city walls, and beyond that, hills and mountains. Amidst them, he knows, are peaks belonging even to the mountain reaches further away, Hurt and Khoulory.

Letting out a sigh, he continues along the stone hallways, until he hears the voice that has held him company throughout the years and has always been supportive. With a smile he listens to his wife, Her Royal Highess, The Queen Leona Pegasus. "What troubles you, my love?" She asks with interest. He knows she already has heard about his latest visitor, as she always has, but he is happy that she lets him tell about it nontheless. "A diplomat from Aschat came with further details about the necromancer attacks in the mountains." She gave a nod, she had heard the news about it before. "It is a troubling turn of events." He continued. "What vexes me most is that the motive is as of yet unclear. Is this a power hungry wizard, a plot by the Black Council or a madman?" A sigh escaped him. She looked at him and gave a soft smile. "We will find out." She said with determination. He nodded and loved her confidence.

"Anyway, on to more pleasant matters. Any news about our eldest?" This question from the King sparked a smile from the Queen as they walked through the hallways and on to a balcony, enjoying the sigh over the Palace Gardens. "They grow up so fast. He has been training his men in the hills for a week now and is on his way back. They say that he even managed to best his trainer again as example to the men." Richard Pegasus let out a short laugh. "Ah, just like his old man."

Message to the Deep Trolls
A Royal Letter makes its way back to the Deaddrop location, delivered to any Deep Trolls in the vicinity. It is written in a fanciful writing style on sturdy paper in a sturdy envelop, sealed with red wax, showing the Royal Ghares Insignia.

Greetings Representative of the Deep Trolls,

The news of the Necromancer's activities has become known to us and it is obvious that our nations agree that this is a threat that must be eliminated. We will not stand idly by and this menace will not go unchecked.

However, we strongly believe that there can be no cooperation between our nations. Magic can lead to good and to bad, but is a part of our world. A race which magic does not even dare touch and which hides deep beneath the surface of the world is not part of it and we will have nothing to do with such kind. Therefore, we are not interested in your offer for help.

Regards,
The King of Ghares
His Highness Richard Pegasus

(OOC: I assumed there was some indication it was from the Deep Trolls. Also, hope you don't mind, but since you chose to have a reputation of 1, I feel that it is worthwhile to incorporate it in the interaction. A relatively polite message was sent back, but realise the Ghares populace generally considers Deep Trolls not too different from undead and demons.)
Message to the nearest Magus Council office
An Ghares Diplomat arrives at a Magus Council Office and requests to speak with one of the Magus officials.

"Greetings, I am Gradius Demarchy, a representative of the Ghares Kingdom. I come on behalf of His Royal Highness, the King. As you may be well aware, there are reports of a necromancer with ties to the Black Court causing harm in the mountainous regions north-east of the Kingdom by raising foul undead and razing villages. It is our express wish to protect the populace and vanquish the menace. As we understood, the Magus Council shares the same view, and we hope a joint venture to get rid of this menace is possible between our powers, as well as other national powers. A message has been sent out to the Pantheon's Theocratic Union and the Demethian Empire as well."
Message to the Pantheon's Theocratic Union and the Demethian Empire
A message to the higher ups of the nation arrives.

"On behalf of the Kingdom of Ghares, this message is brought to you. Reports indicate that a Necromancer is raising an undead army in the mountains between Hurt and Khoulroy, using it to raze villages. The populace is in danger and said danger only grows. The Kingdom of Ghares considers it its responsibility to tackle the problem and is hoping that you are willing to join in a joint venture to remove this threat from the lands in our shared vicinity.

This message has been sent to a Magus Council Office, the pantheon's Theocratic Union and the Demethian Empire and it is our hope that our nations can cooperate in this matter of international importance. A diplomat is on its way to discuss the matter further. We hope that you will allow entrance to this diplomat and aid us in this joint venture."

The Deep Trolls To The Kingdom of Ghares
As your letter carrier leaves, a scroll case seems to emerge from a tree. When you knock on the tree, it gives a mettalic ding, and seems to be hollow.

We realize that you know little about us, and most would consider us monsters. However, few know our history and our dwelling in the depths is our pennance. As for magic not touching us, for every action there is a equal and opposite reaction. As Ether is simply magic that condensed into phyical form, our kind is the opposite end of the scales. And as for why you might fear or distrust us for our antimagical nature, we've always felt sorry for you, for you only hear the echo, not the orginal song. We will take action aginst the necromancer, we only sent the letter to let you know.

Seaward Shogunate (ESP-D 5) to the Deep Trolls
The response is rather simple and straightforward, having been crafted on a piece of seemingly ordinary paper, though slightly moldy with exposure to salty air and dampness.

Whilst we of the Shogunate do not know of any Tablets of the Names of which you speak, we are currently preparing for an incursion against the thrice-damned abominations of the Sho'rak Horde. Their existence offends the spirits of our ancestors, and their residency on perfectly good land is in poor taste to the current Shogun. As such, an incursion is being planned to help remove of them. For now, we are building our forces, but if you wish to assist then such is acceptable.

The Demethian Empire (ESP-D 6) to the Deep Trolls
The response communique is rather straightforward, having been printed on rather finely made paper:

To the mighty Jarls of the Deep Trolls,

We are writing this missive in the interest that Ghallal, a former Demethian warmage since discredited for his involvement with the Black Court, be eliminated. However, with recent concerns from our Gnomish neighbors, we are unable to commit any resources to his removal in lieu to dedicating resources to our defense.

Jotun of Ur to Orc's of the Fallen Tree
The voice of the Jotun, the giant, on the other end of the Etherwave transmission is heavy like oak, but booming loud and clear.

"MOST AGREEABLE!" He announced, "Trade shall be very good between us. We build more ships to sail upon, and you shall have what we so easily harvest from our mountains! Consider it done."

Demethian Empire to the Gnomish Technocracy of Tarth
General Octavian of the Demethian Empire would send his reply rather clearly, the man-- dressed in bright red plate armor with a peacock-plumed helmet--giving a rather solid response to the Gnomes,

"We shall not accept intimidation from an outside power. If you wish to cooperate with us in the development of more advanced airship technology, then we may stand a chance of cooperation, but threats shall earn you no allies in the international courts!" The Demethian replied, "Our military may not be massive, but we hold these lands proudly and firmly, and our agents stand ready to disable any ships that come near our territories! Peace is a preferable option to war, however, should you desire cooperation rather than senseless death."

Halyat
OOC: To the southwest are the Badland Khans. To the north are the Meluvian Kingdoms. Hope this helps!

Magus Council to the Kingdom of Ghares
The Magus Council's primary facility, a large enclave a few miles east of the outer borders of the kingdom in Urdatha, was awash in activity. It was one of the nerve clusters of the region, located right in the middle of the city of Katum. A massive Etherwave tower was situated right in the middle of it, the six-kiloton chunk of fused Ether constantly pulsating as it received, relayed, scrambled, and unscrambled a myriad of messages. A pair of airships flying Magus Council colors, yet clearly plated in Vanticras-mined mithril, hovered overhead. On the ground, a number of soldiers dressed in bright blue armor with gold trim marched this way and that, drilling with a myriad of weapons and technologies. A small shipyard could be seen in one corner of the compound, a third airship seemingly in the midst of being built, massive piles of Ether having been stockpiled around it.

The Magus Council's highest commander of the area, the Regionar of the Southwest Quadrant, would greet the Ghares envoy. A lumbering giant of a man, his nature was obvious right from the start. An Ogre. A massive, very intelligent-looking Ogre, like something out of the lands of monsters and Beastmen. An Ogre that would have met the Ghares envoy in the Council's central war room. A number of illusory displays could be seen: Representations of various nations, estimates of their capabilities, positioning and movement vectors of various forces and contingents. A lot of forces in the region seemed concentrated around the areas to the southwest- towards the Sho'rek Hordes.

"Greetings." The Ogre would say in relatively fluent Common, "I am Regionar Thullock. A pleasure to meet you." He'd say, perhaps a bit gruffly, "The Black Court's operations are well known to us- as is their agent." He remarked, giving an idle gesture to the table. The illusion shifted slightly, focusing on the mountain range where Ghallal and his forces had accumulated.

"Had I the resources and numbers, I would have dealt with his ilk myself." The Ogre rumbled ruinously, "A strike force of mage slayers aimed at the sorcerer himself, with a regiment of heavy infantry and a cadre of Theurges." He grumbled, folding his massive arms together, "As it stands, I've had to deploy everything but our garrison forces to keep the Sho'rak in check." He remarked, "We can't pierce their island, wrapped up in so many theaters as we are, but we're keeping constant patrol along the outskirts. Wiping out anything that tries to pierce our defensive grid." He remarked, before looking to the Ghares representative, "If you want my help, I can't afford to pull my garrison forces out and leave the Council bases exposed. If you can provide some means of helping alleviate the strain on resources... Anything, really. Intelligence personnel, raw resources, manpower, mages..." He nodded, coming to a decision, "I can match whatever you offer in either specialized intelligence assets, raw military assets, or mages. The Council members themselves are divided in either running matters of importance or dealing with the Beastmen themselves. If you can move enough resources and donate enough... One of them may even be persuaded to join up."

He paused for a second before licking his lips, "Or... You could take out a favor, to be later repaid." He commented hesitantly, "Something on the scale of joining a military endeavor, helping research a technology... Providing Ether..." He said with extreme delicacy, for an Ogre at least, "The options are all yours."

Demethian Empire to Kingdom of Ghares
The response from the Demethians was rather straightforward, the Demethian Commodore at Simeringer broadcasting his reply from behind the fortified stone walls of the city. Massive steel gates had been drawn shut, and the entire city looked like it was in lockdown.

"Due to the possibility of assault from the Gnomes to the north, the Demethian Empire shall be stuck in efforts of fortification and securing its territory! Should the Necromancer seek to test his undead against Demethian architecture, then we shall slaughter his forces by the thousands!" He remarked proudly, "As our ships purge him from above! If you can dissuade the Gnomes from attacking us, however... We may see fit to deploy a number of our elite tactical forces to disposing of this nuisance."

Missive to "His Royal Highness The King Richard Pegasus of the Kingdom of Ghares"

A squat and rotund figure appears before your court with no more then two armed guards to defend himself. The figures before you are small, only slightly taller then your children, and easily three times as fat. Each is adorned with the gaudiest of bobbles and trinkets. Their linens and finery are seemingly worth more then your entire thrown room.

Then the leading Gnome speaks.

"I am Councilor Augustien of the Gnomish Technocracy of Tarth. I bring tidings to my distant neighbors, in hopes that a profitable exchange can be met. Know that always are the Gnomish kin loyal to your people, and will happily lay our lives down for you.
The gnome's eyes shift curiously.
A most interesting proposition has arisen that I believe your majesty may be interested in learning. It seems the people of Demethian have stolen from me technology. They have liberated it from our very workshops and forges within Tarth. While I do not blame any but myself for this slight, I am hellbent to right this injustice. If you have any sensibility of right and wrong, then you will understand my plight.

In six months time I will begin a siege on their people. I have... obtained... some orcish soldiers, by means that I do not believe them so fond of. These men will be the shock troops in my invasion, and hopefully the most damaging force. I intend to send steam golem and siege-canon a plenty to destroy their defenses. What I lack however, are capable soldiers. My own people, we are short in stature and lack in muscle. But we have intelligence, and ingenuity. We can provide your people with technological wonders you could only dream of. Armor of the heaviest and densest metals, but lighter then feathers. Canons run by steam and coal to burn holes through the flimsy brick and morter of castle walls.
Augustien bows low, his conical hat nearly falling off, a myriad of bells and bobbles jingle and jangle as he does so.
I ask only this your majesty, as one leader to another, that you provide us with ample capable warriors to seize the demethien throne once their defenses have fallen. If all goes as planned, I will even share the riches of the kingdom with you 90/10. I simply wish to recover my stolen technologies.

Missive to the Deep Trolls

A small, plump figure appears before your trolls. Communicating via the instant transmutations that the council has graciously provided.
On screen is a fat, cherub-like figure, however his complexion is gross, almost as bad as your own. The "Gnome" wore a conical hat, and a mess of jingling chiming bells and bobbles. It looked decked out in more finery then an entire throne room. The gnome spoke in a melodic voice.
*ahem* Hello good under-dwellers. We bring tithings not of war, but of peace. And in fact prosperity. We can provide for you anything you could desire. Meats! Slaves! Riches! Technologies! Magics! Anything and everything. All we ask is one little favor in return. Our mountain home of Tarth has become barren in the present years. And we request a paltry brigand of Trolls to reinforce them. We will forever indebt ourselves to you, and provide you with endless, free services, for a small guard of your own men to defend our technological secrets.

(wanting to trade all technologies now, and forever, for 1 Military, permanantly)

Reply to the Demethian Empire

"So be it. Be be warned you hearty fool. There is no word for mercy in the gnomish tongue. You have done a terrible misdeed to our people, you have flaunted a marvel beyond even our own capacity to engineer, and you dare to withhold it from us. I offer no more warnings. Within the coming years there will be blood shed between our countries. I only pray you find yourselves more prepared then we are.

Mercantilis Imperia

The Imperilous Magus Competition

Word traveled fast throughout the Imperia's Collegium, the Platinum Council had issued an open contest for all worthwhile magi, with the winner or winners gaining a lucrative government contract and rumors have speculated that a great deal of Ether will be involved. The object of this contest? Weather!

Whoever could formulate the greatest of weather controlling spells would gain access to great fortune and fame! Naturally the former is deemed more important for those in the Imperia. Unfortunately this will have the side effect of halting most other magical projects as all attempt to become Kings and Queens of Climate!

Other Business

While the magical part of the Imperia was preoccupied with doing something about the weather, the more mundane (though equally important) parts were hard at work doing what they always do, making money! To this end a large number of messages were sent out to factions all centered around trade!

The Knights of Ether, Magus Council, and Dwarf Kingdom of Vanticras
Salutations, it has come to our attention that you seek to stymie the advancement of the Beastmen Tribes. Given how numerous they are this could take quite a deal of supplies, cash, and time. While we are far away from this threat we believe in trading with nations and groups both near and far, if you are interested in doing business please let us know.

Dragon King
While you seem to be withdrawing from the world, a total cutoff would seem a terrible waste. While we will respect your wishes if you decline, we do wish to offer trade if such is palatable.

The Ogres
We hear you like smashing elves, we might be able to trade you some things that will help you smash more elves, let us know!

Sylphan Elves
You seem to be having a problem with Ogres, we might be able to help you with that one way or another, please let us know if this interests you!

Seaward Shogunate
You have expressed interest in fighting the demonspawn and regaining some of your lost lands, we are eager to trade you goods that might aid in this endeavor!

Jotun of Ur
You seem to desire a great deal of metal, we may be able to provide you with some, for the proper measure of compensation.

Dementhian Empire
The creation of more flying machines is quite desirable as it increases the capability for trade, in this light we would consider trading construction materials to you at perhaps a somewhat reduced price.

Ghallal
You seem busy pillaging the countryside with your undead horde, while such an army doesn't have much need for normal supplies we can't help but wonder if certain necromantic spell components wouldn't be of interest to you, while necromancy is not banned in our kingdom it is not considered as...useful as other disciplines and so there is less need for such materials here.

Deep Trolls
While others might shun or despise you it is the policy of the Mercantilis Imperia to trade with all, as such we wish to enter a mutually beneficial trade relationship with you, we are especially interested in Ether and technology as the few Trolls we have in the Imperia seem to indicate you are rich in both.

Melvaunian Kingdoms
Fellow traders it has come to our attention that you have a small amount of Ether for which you have very little use as such we seek to know what you would consider a fair and equitable trade for it.

Orcs of the Fallen Tree
We hear you like axes, we hear you hate magic, give us Ether and we give you many axes! Good?

The Kingdom of Ghares
Greetings, we send you this message in hopes of securing trade with your kingdom, of particular interest to us are your Ether deposits, you thoughts?

To the Mercantilis Imperia
We have most of what we need down here, and our pennance puts strict limits on when we can head to the surface. And we ask, what would you do with our technology? Would it be used productivly, or only to chase after yet more empty wealth? We would be willing to trade some of our technology, and our needs are simple. We'll also need some time to think this over, and as we say down here, "Think of tomorrow, you'll still be around, so make sure you don't spend all you have today."

to the Gnomish Technocracy of Tarth
We will think on it, but there are several factors aginst this. Our Pennance forbids us going to the surface unless it's to combat Demons, demonspawn or dark magic. We have also heard what happens to those who practice artifice that make a breakthrough before you. And we'll need all our forces to combat the recent Necromancer and Demon incursions.

To the Seaward Shogunate
Very well, just let us know when you plan to strike. In the meantime, there's a Dark Necromancer that also needs to be delt with. As for Tablet of the Names, they appear as no more then simple stone tablets, with words in a language that defys magical translation.

To the Demethian Empire
Very well, we'll be moving aginst the Necromancer. Also, Arrogant little things those gnomes, arn't they?

The Kingdom of Ghares

To join the Mercantilis Imperia's Imperilous Magus Competition

"Must I, My Liege?" Evenar Mistlemoor asked, his tone already betraying that he knew the answer. The Duke of Hesat, William Rurmand, was his conversation partner and he gave a nod with a smile on his face. "Indeed, my loyal Court Magician!"

"But My Liege, the Festival of Wisp's Eve is but a week away. You know my role-" Evenar tried one last time, but his face already betrayed defeat. Duke Rurmand waved the attempt away and with a confident voice he stated: "You can be missed for one year, Evenar. I know that your spells usually lift the spirits of the people, but the prestige gained from participating The Imperilous Magus Competition at the Mercantilis Imperia will inspire the people here." After a short pause, Duke Rurmand interrupted Evenar Mistlemoor before he started. "Yes, I know you are going to say they have far better skill. That will not change my mind, however. I do not expect you to win this competition, I expect you to join it. How you go about it then, is up to you, ofcourse."

Evenar let out a sigh, but then nodded. He saw the grin on Duke Rurmand's face, one he knew, and it inspired a smile on his own face. "A feast?" Evenar tried and the Duke gave him a nod. "Upon your return, a feast. Then you can tell us your story and share it with our folk." The grin on the Duke's face grew, as he knew that Evenar would not try out any more excuses. Evenar knew full well when the Duke would not budge, and he knew that Evenar would enjoy the opportunity to tell his tale. While Evenar looked up against missing out on the Festival of Wisp's Eve, he knew that the opportunity offered was a great one. To see other lands, to make such a long journey, as a Court Magician even! The Dukes usually kept their Magicians close, because they needed their advice, even if their skill was but a speck compared to the Mages in other countries.

That was perhaps what bothered Evenar the most. Compared to the Mages in the Mercantalis Imperia, he had but the skill of one of their apprentices. Yet, at least he had a step up compared to some of the other Court Magicians, as he at least knew the field which this competition was centered around. Ofcourse, he could not summon storms, but he had some mundane knowledge about weather patterns, could predict the weather, and one of his tricks was to summon forth small clouds above another's head, usually enough to make the children laugh.

He knew that he could never be a feasible competitor on his own. On the journey to the Mercantilis Imperia, fittingly as a passenger on one of their trading ships that frequented the Kingdom of Ghares often, accompanied by several companions, he thought about what way to take. He would need to team up with one of the existing competitors and lend his skills. And while his magical skills might seem meagre compared to theirs, he had the luxury of being able to draw from another skill set as well. Serving as a Magician in the Duke's Court, he had learned to be attentive, how to best give advice and how to deal with organisational and diplomatic matters. While the Mages of the Mercantilis Imperia were more likely to be involved in other trade or deeply involved in magical research, they were likely to lack such skills.

Especially since Evenar had heard that where people did not trust the Mercantilis Imperia and their merchants due to their neutrality and shrewdness in trade, despite their ongoing trades, a similar mindset existed in parts of their society between one another. And it was there that Evenar could shine, as he could try to get in favour with a promising group that could use his organisational skills.

Dressed in a sky blue robe marked with white ornamental lines, Evenar Mistlemoor is a middle aged man, still unmarried, but has a teenager apprentice and aide at his side. Joined on his journey by a diplomat to represent the Kingdom, as well as a number of guards, selected on one hand to protect the Court Magician, but on the other also selected for their intelligence or skills to help him on his task.

Mercantilis Imperia
(OOC: As you can see above, Evenar Mistlemoor, Court Magician of the Duke of Hesat, is heading to the Mecantilis Imperia for the Imperilous Magus Competition to try and throw his skills and that of his companions in with one of the teams.)

In his journey to the Mercantilis Imperia, Evenar Mistlemoor's companion the Diplomat also brings the message that the Kingdom of Ghares is always positively aligned towards furthering trade with the Mercantilis Imperia. Unfortunately, due to the severely limited stocks of Ether the Kingdom has, those are not up for trade.

(OOC: So far I have gone out from the assumption that between the Mercantilis Imperia and the Kingdom of Ghares there are already several trade routes, with some of the Mercantilis Imperia's trade routes going through the Kingdom as well to regions beyond. The Kingdom of Ghares imports goods from or through the merchants of the Mercantilis Imperia and looking at the big picture, the Kingdom would probably be importing more from than exporting to the Mercantilis Imperia. I base this on your high Economy and mercantile background. So trade already exists between the Kingdom and the Mercantilis Imperia. Please tell me if you are okay and supporting of this assumption.

Also, I only have 2 Ether, I don't think I will trade them that easily, heh. :P)

The Demethian Empire
The messenger group, seated on their horses, look up at the mighty steel gates of the city while they hear the booming response. Suitably impressed, it takes a moment before one of them leads his horse closer to shout the response once more. "Bold Demethian words that demand respect! The Kingdom of Ghares wishes you luck if it may come to such a grave future if one were to face such an undead horde, but we hope it can be prevented."

A moment of silence as the messenger catches his breath to shout the next, as he refuses to see how much he was outdone just now by the message broadcast by the Commodore. "The news about the Gnomes is unsettling! May the odds fall as they may if it really comes to such an event. Our group will return to the Diplomat on his way over here to bring the news! What news must we bring of permission to enter the city?" A moment of catching breath interrupts the speech, though the messenger obviously still has something left to say. "Sir Gregory Dawnsong, the Ghares Diplomat, is the cousin of the noble Lady Catherina, married to the Honourable Demethian Lord Higfired Melsings, binding the blood of our nations together. If it is not a joint venture that Sir Dawnsong may discuss, may he at least visit his blood relation and her esteemed husband?"

Seaward Shogunate
A letter is sent and delivered in person by a Ghares messenger. A sturdy envelope with a Hesat Insigna engraved in wax to seal the formal paper document within is handed over to give the message to a Seaward Shogunate official.

Greetings,

On behalf of the Ghares Kingdom, I, Nulan Doremoi, Diplomat in Service of the Duke of Hesat, William Rurmand, send you this message.

The Kingdom commends you on your intention to claim back the lands from the vile Sho'rak Horde, and our nation supports the endeavour in its full extend. We would like to support the cause by sending ships to aid the Seaward Shogunate enterprise and fight against the encroaching force of the abyss as long as the campaign lasts.
Our attention is also drawn to problems on the continent, amongst which is an undead menace inflicting harm, so we can not invest our full attention to the campaign, but we hope that our contribution will be accepted.

With regards,

Nulan Doremoi
Diplomat speaking on behalf of the Ghares Kingdom
and in service to the Duke of Hesat, William Rurmand.

The Gnomisch Technocracy
Gathered in the throne room of Ludir's Palace is part of the King's Court, with several advisors and influential nobles of the Realm, showing their wealth, prestige and grace. They stand in stark contrast to the perverse gnomes in their midst, who carry around with him a preposterous amount of wealth. Their dress does not speak of fashion, of eloquence or beauty, but simply of wealth. Their fat bodies spoke of gluttony, their wealth of greed. Pride and envy was spoken by their words, wrath by their intentions.

Yet despite this display, the Court had seen it before, as the Kingdom had ties with the Gnomish Technocracy. It was through hard spent coin that the Kingdom had managed to purchase Gnomish weaponry far exceeding their own, and allowing them to equip their finest warriors with it. Not nearly enough for their entire military, it was sufficient to bring an even more lethal component to their forces. Even now coin from their coffers flowed to that of the Technocracy for their supplies.

What shocked the Court was one thing Councilor Augustien said. It was not when they talked of a siege, nor theft of technology. The shock came when he spoke of having enlisted the aid of the orcs. A savage and violent race that any sane man would do best to avoid. Their strength was told of in stories that sowed fear in the hearts of man. Their brutality was known to have no bounds. What would the Technocracy do next? Forge an alliance with the Beastman?

His Royal Higness, The King, Richard Pegasus, rose up when the last word was spoken by Augustien. His face was but a mask, not betraying his inner emotions, only betraying that he had to restrain himself from showing them. He took a breath through his nose before he spoke.

"Councilor Augustien, we are sorry to hear your plight, and the theft of technology is certainly matter of great importance which we understand, make no mistake about that. We are honoured that you come to the Ghares Court and look at us for aid. The relation between our nations is a solid one, carved from steel and gold. Was the situation different, then I might have been able to agree to lend our aid right here.

But the situation you put is in is a difficult one to say the least. You ask us to aid you in an assault against a nation where we have ties of blood. Our nobility are bonded with the strength of a family. Anyone with any sense would be able to see the problem we stand before.

And yet, that is not the only problem. The words which you have spoken shock us deeply. You speak of a cooperation with the Savages of the Fallen Tree. I do not know how you managed to achieve such a feat, but from a nation with such intelligent leaders, I would have expected something smarter than putting one's hand in the fire. Such a cooperation will only bring misery, be forewarned. Their savagery knows no bounds and they are certainly not bound by loyalty to any not of their kind either. I can not ask of my people to stand in the vicinity of such beasts, you must see that.

What I and we all in turn see is the magnificence of the offer you bring. It is certainly an impressive offer, one that is not denied without deep thought, especially considering our ties. Yet, you know which problems I face. The offer is great, but I can not speak at this point whether we can accept or reject such offer and must think it over, because there is too much at stake. To the north is an undead menace, threatening civilization around it. If that is gone unchecked, the thought needs not bare mentioning! We must send troops to rid us of the looming threat to our nations. Those are, unfortunately, troops we can not send to aid your cause, if we are to support it. And thus you can see the difficulty of my position.

However! Perhaps an alternative might be offered. You state that your wish is to recover technology that was stolen from you. To achieve such a thing, a full out war might not be needed at all. Would you be willing to let our men look into the matter and perhaps we might be able to come to a solution that does not involve such violence? After all, we are all civilized nations. Perhaps the Demethian Empire is willing to hear us out and we can mean something to you in this matter. If your technology is returned to you, would that not be satisfactory in itself?"

The King finishes his speech with the question addressed to the Gnomish Councilor. His tone and actions during the speech were impressive, empathic and especially, charismatic.

The Vault of Names

"Scribe Volx'zasd, as you are doubtless aware, the Mercantilis Imperia is holding a conest of magic. More to the point, weather magic. As you are one of the few speakers that has enough self control to not accidently kill everyone around you as you speak, you'll be going. Now, there are a few reasons for this. While we know that we cannot win this contest, we suspect that the Black court may have agents there. Keep a eye out for them. Also, we need to get along better with some of the other nations, so if you could help them? Evenar Mistlemoor seems like he would be the best, attuned enough to the world to be able to see a part of the whole, but still blinded slightly by the glare. Well, have a good trip."

The Mercantilis Imperia & the Kingdom of Ghares
Boarding the same ship that Evenar Mistlemoor's on, a Troll, his features closer to a large man, with skin the texture of Granite, and eyes of maga, hair like metal, A deep Troll. As soon as he steps on board, magic seems to be slightly harder to reach, but also... Clearer, as if it was just brought just a slight bit more into focus. He head Towards Evenar, and bows. "Kro Mistlemoor. I am Scribe Volx'zasd, a rune scribe of the third series. My master, The Deepspeaker, asked that I be of aid to you." As he speaks, his words just echo a tiny fraction, not with magic or psionics, but something else, something older...

The Kingdom of Ghares

The Magus Council
Gradius Demarchy was more than impressed by the sights he could behold at the Magus Council facility. Once before he had seen the majesty of the massive Etherwave tower in the far distance, and how he could see it at a much closer range. Baffled by its proportions and the magical energies flowing around and being used in this location, he felt small and insignificant. The Kingdom of Ghares had no access to such magic at all and the Magus Council's display of their mastery of it was holding Gradius' breath ransom for a while, as well as that of his companions.

Their presence was a contrast to the others that walked around. Their dress, of good quality and sturdy, was a simple hint in this complex landscape. They showed simple and earnest colours, with little decoration. Those dressed in protective gear found themselves to be standing as if they were dressed in but mere clothes in comparison. Leather clothes, perhaps, with iron reinforcement and plates, but nothing compared to the bright blue armour enriched with gold that the guards wore here.

The technology and magic that surrounded them struck awe in their minds, as of the small group, many had not seen such a wealth of advancement before. This awe was intensified when they saw who came to great them. Not a mere man, but an ogre, an imposing figure of a representive, and one with an intelligent streak to it. Gradius looked at the illusion Regionar Thullock had pointed out, seeing the incredible use out of it compared to the parchment maps and wooden figurines used by the Kingdom.

All in all, the group felt tiny compared to what they had found themselves in. And their thought of it was twofolded. On the one hand, how could they even offer anything suitable for the Magus Council? On the other, they might feel small now, but their spirit and bravery was great. And they would not simply stand still!

These thoughts held Gradius Demarchy in his grasp as he tried to formulate an answer. Still visibly awed by his surroundings, something that none of the group had even thought about hiding, too impressed by what they saw, his thoughts moved slowly.

"Regionar Thullock. Let me start out by saying that this facility is without a doubt, the most impressive location I have seen in my entire live. My compliments to the greatness of what I behold. I hear of the burden you have to bear and understand how difficult it can be to dedicate further resources to this, especially with the Sho'rek's activities. It brightens my heart to hear that you are doing your best to keep them in check.

Ah, but I am trailing off a bit. As for the matter of the Necromancer." There was but a moment's hesitation before Gradius continued, because he had to consider his options once more. "It is not manpower that we lack. It is, however, specialised troops to deal with a mage of such power, as you possess. We do not have the mage slaying capability to enact the plan you just formulated you would follow: a strike group." For a moment, he hesitates to continue, but then he does, realising that it is of no use to withhold it. "To be honest, we fear that if we were to hold this campaign against them without sufficient backup, we might even see our own fallen being turned against us." There, he said it. It was no use hiding it, anyway.

"The Kingdom of Ghares has freed up a substantial part of their military for this campaign, as well as the supplies to field them. Perhaps we can lend our best for a strike group reinforced by your men, intent of taking out the primary source of this threat, while the remainder of the military available for this action is able to relief your forces elsewhere for a suitable time period in return?" Gradius suggested. His tone held a bit of uncertainty, as he was nervous. Not only was he deeply impressed by his surroundings, but he was now talking to an intelligent ogre. Such things had an effect on one's conversational skills.
The Deep Trolls and Mercantilis Imperia
Evenar Mistlemoor was looking forward to what his destination would bring. Looking over the waters as they were in another dock, he suddenly noticed something disturbing. A strange feeling, tied into his magical capabilities. Not being able to place it, he turned to respond to whoever was now addressing him with that strange voice. Yet he would not get the chance.

Between Evenar and Scribe Volx'zasd two Ghares guards had hurried. Dressed in their leather armour reinforced with metal plates, the first, a middle aged man with brown hair and a short beard held a large sword with two hands in the direction of the Deep Troll, while the other, a man in his twenties with a scarf keeping his long and wild blonde hair out of his eyes held a sword and shield at the ready, putting the shield between Evenar and the Scribe. Yet as the Deep Troll could easily discern, the two might have been quick to stand ready in defence of the Court Magician, they did not do so without fear. It was a testament to their bravery as they stood there facing him, as beads of sweat had already started to drip from the middle aged man's face and the younger man's shield and sword were trembling.

"Hold! No step closer!" A demanding female voice shouted from several meters to the Troll's side. Dressed in the same armour as the two other man, she had auburn hair tied up into a pony tail and was looking straight at the Troll, holding a drawn bow and arrow aimed squarely at his head. Just like the two other man, she was afraid as well, but she had been trained well enough that her aim did not falter under it. Her steadfast behaviour marked her as the commander of the guards, with the duty to protect Evenar Mistlemoor. "I don't care what your master asked of you. Step away from our mage! NOW!" Pulling the bowstring a bit further, the female warrior was ready to shoot. The Ghares people were not known for their bluffs.

Meanwhile, Evenar had a perplexed look on his face, mingled in with fear of his own. In a sense, his fear was even deeper, as where the guards could rely on their combat skill, his skill was known to be meaningless against the Deep Trolls. And yet, he had heard the words Volx'zasd had said. He was sent to aid him? The reason alluded Evenar completely. Why would a Deep Troll be sent? Why him and why now? It seemed only logical it had to do with his destination, but considering it was a magical competition, what aid could a Deep Troll offer? Baffled by the suggestion, Evenar could not deny that it had sparked his curiosity. And yet, he could not act on it. Not now, anyway. Fear had caught a hold of his heart as well, and he knew that the female commander was much better in dealing with such a situation.

To The Kingdom of Ghares (ESP-D 4)
He bows to the Guard commander, and puts something down. It looks like a tablet, no larger then good sized book. "Of course. I ment no harm. It's my first time on the surface in a few hundred years, so please forgive me if I cause offence. As for the Tablet of Names, could you return it later? The Deepspeaker said that if you could understand it, you would find it intresting."
As before, his words seem to echo with that unkown presence. And he then heads down to his cabin. He pauses at the hatch and mutters something before heading down, and then a voice seems to echo in Evenar's ear, "If you would like to learn more about the tablet, you know where to find me." Intrestingly enough, it's Volx'zasd's voice... And no magic was used at all...

The Deep Trolls and Mercantilis Imperia
Evenar Mistlemoor was surprised by the Troll's actions, but not least of all were the rest of those he travelled with. Ilona Vestlemyre, the female commander, lowered her bow only when the Deep Troll had left sight. Letting out a sigh of relief, her tense figure relaxed, as did that of the two man. "Why is a Troll on board of this vessel? Is the captain crazy?" The younger of them asked. "No. He is just more interested in coin." The older explains, to which Ilona gives a nod. Stepping closer, she looks at Evenar. "Are you alright?" He gave a nervous nod in response to that, glancing to the way the Troll had gone. He remembered the echo in his ear, his voice, and the lack of magic from it. The question that kept him occupied was: "How?"

Not voicing it, he turned to look at the book. "Be careful." Ilona said as the younger man stepped closer. Curiosity winning out now that Evenar no longer needed to look at Volx'zasd, he stepped forward to the tablet. "I will study it." He said, and the other three looked at him. Ilona gave a short nod. "Tell us what you learn of it. Matt, Ronduran, stick with Evenar. I don't trust that Troll at all. I'll go check with the others." With that said, she went off to spread the news under their fellow travel companions, warning each of them. That evening, in Evenar's cabin, his apprentice and the diplomat were present, while Matt, the young man, and Ilona, kept watch.
The Deep Trolls
"Why would he do that?" Warren Borck asked as he sat in his chair watching the circular port window that evening. "They're crazy, I tell you. A few hundred years? He must be lying." But Evenar shrugged as he replied to the diplomat. "Maybe. But there's more to it, and you know it, Warren. Now, be quiet for a moment while I try to make sense of this.." And with that, he focused all his efforts to see what was up with this Tablet of Names, and see if he could make sense out of it, making use of his apprentice's aid where necessary.

(OOC: What is on the tablet?)

Evenar Mistlemoor Examining a Tablet of Names
The script on the Tablet is bizzare to say the least. It shows some similarites to Mage writing, but is suprising vastly more complex. And, out of the corner of your eye you think you see the script moving, becomeing like wind, yet when you look at it, it's the same as when he put it down. When you attempt to magicaly translate it, Evenar blanks out. What he sees is.... Impossible. A Deep Troll, in the middle of a raging storm. He seems to look at you, and your spine grows cold. Time itself seems to hide behind those eyes. Turning to face the storm, he says but one word. As you wake up, your almost sent flying out of your chair, by the sheer power from just a fragment of a DREAM of that word. And the power was defintly not magic. And, when you look at the Tablet agian, theres something diffrent. A part of it seems to resemble the sky now...

The Deep Trolls and Mercantilis Imperia

"I will repeat it again. Slowly, and clearly." Ilona Vestlemyre said and then gave a loud: "No!" shouted to Evenar's face. "I don't care even if the Troll would win us this competition, you are not going to talk to him! I don't care how interesting that fancy tablet of his is. You are Hesat's Court Mage and it is my duty to protect you. I will not let you talk to him while we are still on this boat. When we get to shore in the lands of the Mercantalis Imperia, you will get the chance to return that tablet of his and talk. While we are there. In a place of our choosing. And that is end of discussion. No, no buts, ifs or whatever. Understood?"

When Ilona was done tirading against Evenar, who had only tried to say something in spite of the futility of it, he simply let out a sigh and nodded. "Yes, I understand. My apologies." Yet, Ilona's tirade was not entirely caused by his attempt to talk to the Troll. It was the strange situation they had found themselves in, with a Troll handing over a tablet, albeit only for temporary use. None of them had seen a Troll before, yet all had heard of them. She was on edge.

---

Eventually, the ship they were travelling on reached their destination: The Mercantilis Imperia. They got off the ship at the capital of the nation and would soon be off to find lodgings and start their work on the competition and trying to find another group to team up with. With that in sight, Warren Borck was excited, ready for the chance to see how the situation was in the Mercantilis Imperia. Evenar was anxious as well, though the matter of the Troll still pressed on his mind.

Ilona and Ronduran had met up with Volx'zasd briefly, to state they would return the tablet on land and that there would be a short opportunity to speak. Evenar Mistemoor was curious as to what would happen, but in the mean time, he would be busy with the purpose of their travels.

(OOC: Just wanting to bring this situation where any possible interaction with Madhand Mercantilis Imperia does not seem to be held up and can run in parallel, as I have not seen any response from that end on the arrival of Evenar Mistlemoor, and it is the goal of his group to team up with Mercantilis Imperia mages on the competition. And the days left in this turn are starting to run out.)

The Deep Trolls
After their arrival, part of the Ghares ensemble would be present to meet up with Scribe Volx'zasd. Evenar Mistlemoor, Warren Borck, Ilona Vestlemyre, Matt and Ronduran were all present. Evenar's apprentice, as well as the remaining members of the ensemble, were at a local inn. It had been deemed that it was safer to not all show up, especially in the vicinity of a Troll.

The site was a small plaza, left relatively undisturbed. Evenar held the tablet and walked forward, and Ilona and Matt stuck close to him as he got closer, staying between him and the Troll. A meter or three away from the Troll, he placed the tablet on the ground and the three fell back again. This time, Ilona and Mett also retreated further, allowing Evenar to talk more face to face in the direction of the Troll, though the distance held was still at least six meters.

"Greetings, Scribe Volx'zasd. Here is your Tablet of Names back, as you requested. It.. is unlike anything else I have ever seen. What is it, if I may ask? And why are you here?" His stance was clear: he was now acting out of curiosity. He still feared the Troll, but his curiosity had out won that instinct. This was not really true for the others. Warren Borck was obviously sweating and trembling slightly, glad that Evenar had started talking. The guards were more at ease than before, because they were prepared. Their weapons were close by and with the slightest notion of threat coming from Volx'zasd, those weapons would be raised.

To the Kingdom of Ghares
"Thank you, Kro Mistlemoor. I hope you found it intresting. From what I know of the Tablet, it was spoken by Guul'shuak Stormspeaker quite some time ago, even by our standards." Leaning forword slightly, he picks up the tablet, and puts it back in the pocket of his robes. "As for what a Tablet of Names is, the awnser is both simple and complex. The physical makeup of the tablet is just that, a stone tablet. However, due to the writing and speaking of a word, it contains a memory and acts as a teaching aid. As for what its a aid for... It has always saddend my kind that you have forgotten the True Language. Forgive us for this opinion, but magic seems to be little compensation for not being able to talk directly to the world, and hearing it talk back to you." He looks both sad and wistful. "And as to why I'm here. Well, the Deepspeaker said that you had potential, and that I was to assist you if possible. I'm also here because of two less plesent matters. Because this will be affecting the weather, my masters want me to make sure that the resulting spells will not cause long term climate changes. Unintended results made because of a lack of understanding, it's a good idea to provide the understanding before they start. And because of it's scale and topic, we fear that the Black court will try and infiltrate the contest. I do not need to think I need to go on why the last is something we could do without."

"You do not." Evenar Mistlemoor agreed. "Still, this is a magical contest." He remarked. "And I have to admit I don't quite know what to make of this True Langauge.." For a moment, Evenar fell silent, but with a prod from Warren, he continued. "..but we have to focus on our task here as well. We'll be on the watch out, but well, you ruhm." He waved a bit nervously with his hands. "Your clash with magic.." He attempted for the moment "..and your reputation.." then looking at his companions "..very much so your reputation.. make it difficult to work together. To, ah.. say the least. I don't really see how you can assist.." Evenar did not really know how to deal with this strange situation, but what he said was true. Assistance from a Deep Troll? That would not really work..

The Conclave
ESP-D: 8

Jotun of Ur:

The Inner Circle dispatch Sho Rai to speak with the Jotun. Of all the Skullmen he possesses the highest number of kills. He is also possessed of impeachable manners however. It was for this duel mastery of diplomacy and mass murder for which he was selected for the task.
My lord, we know you have already arranged contracts for metal with other nations. With respect you must undo this decision immediately, the Conclave has all you need. Only we possess Darksteel my lord, it is to steel as steel is to paper. Once forged it cannot be broken or bent. It is also lightweight. A hull plated with Darksteel will endure any conventional weaponry. Only powerful magic or the very highest examples of technology will give your fleet pause. All we ask, aside proper compensation, is your sworn word this fleet will never sail against us.

OOC: In addition to the deal the others are offering I'm willing to send 6 magic to the Jotun to attach the Darksteel in exchange for 4 econ

Mercantilis Imperia:
To the Imperilous Magus Competition the Inner Circle dispatches Avalonus Knox, a quiet, cold but undoubtedly brilliant weather wizard. His purpose, other than an object lesson in Conclave superiority, was to speak with the Imperia on other matters.
I have been instructed to speak bluntly in this matter, so shall it be. We desire trade with the Imperia.

OOC: Suggust we both chip 2-4 econ into a trade pact.
Also for 4 econ I'll give you 6 magic to aid in your weather venture

Beastmen Clans:
To the Beastmen the Inner Circle dispatches the eldest and most feared of their number. His name is lost to history, he is simply called Sym. A lich of incredible age. Some among the Inner Circle suspect Sym may have been among those who fled the cataclysm, none would presume to ask however. With burning black embers where eyes should be and a grim rictus grin that spoke of much but said nothing (Sym had long ago dispensed with the need for the trivial act of vocalising) it was felt he would be best to negotiate with the Beastmen.
There is word of a new champion among the beast folk. I would speak with him.

Salm Republic and Seaward Shogunate:
To the war council the Inner Circle dispatches Blake, a relative neophyte in need of worldly experience. He has only recently completed his training and has currently only retained his position because he is considered a threat by no one. He can however be trusted to speak the Circle's will.
We understand that you are considering an attack on the abyssal horde, an action we cannot endorse enough. We believe we are able to provide intelligence, but would expect compensation.

The Knights of Ether, Magus Council, and Dwarven Kingdom of Vanticras: PM
We understand you are seeking to stamp out any chance of further beastmen incursions. We believe we may be able to turn aside the horde. However we also feel we lack sufficient motivation. If this act were to be done, what would be done for the Conclave?

Sho'rak Horde: PM
They are plotting against you. We can help you. But the thing about dealing with the devil is... One gets something out of it. If we were to inform you regarding... say, their invasion plans, how would you compensate us?

"Very well then. But if I could offer this peice of advice? Instead of using magic to force the weather to do as you will, instead use it to convince the weather. Only reason why your magic is so draining is because you perfer force to simple persuaion." With that, he speaks a word, one that echos with power, one that none of you can understand, yet that resonates in the deepest parts of our souls. And just like that, he vanishes. Evenar has the slight feeling that both more and less time passed as the Deep Troll spoke the words. "We'll be in touch." Totaly nonmagical, this one comes from where the Deep Troll stood.... And this time, everyone could hear it.

To the Mercantilis Imperia
We have noticed that your holding a weather magic comptition. We fear, that due to it's topic, that the Black court will try and infilltrate it. We've sent someone in to keep a eye put for them, as well as witness the contest. Forgive us for this caution, but we must ask if you know the side effects of weather magic to the natural enviroment?

"What!? I thought their kind couldn't do magic!" Matt shouts a loud after a deafening silence that lasted for a few minutes after the last thing they heard from the Troll. "It's.. I don't know what it is." Evenar admitted. "It doesn't feel like magic at all. But it's not something I can explain." And this caused his eye to twitch. It was aggravating. If it had been magic, at least he would understand that such an act was beyond his reach. If he saw signs of technology, at least he knew that it was in somebody else's field. But this? Unsettling.

And then Scribe Volx'zasd had tried to tell him how to use magic? This whole thing did not add up and Evenar started to wonder if Volx'zasd had really been a Deep Troll at all. In any case, his companions did not really know what to make of this situation either. So they did what they deemed best. Leave this place and focus on their task at hand, doubting and thinking about what they had seen.

The Mercantilis Imperia and the Deep Trolls
During the stay of Evenar Mistlemoor and his companions, he had ordered one of them, Warren Borck, to be on the lookout for information regarding Deep Trolls. Warren was somewhat discreet about it, but he did not go to the efforts necessary to really keep it a secret. Instead, he tried to find out information amongst the other populace about what they knew about Deep Trolls and did not mind if people from the Mercantilis Imperia knew he asked. If they wanted to know why he asked, the answer was simple. A person claiming to be a Deep Troll had been present on their ship, and his presence had been peculiar, hence the attempt to find out more about their kin, if there had been any before who matched such a profile not entirely matching up with what they knew of Deep Trolls.

The Knights of Ether, Magus Council, and Dwarf Kingdom of Vanticras to Mercantilis Imperia
Trade should be excellent. Our respective traders will arrive soon to begin trade with your own.

The Dragon King to Mercantilis Imperia
There is no reply via Etherwave- as though there is either no desire, or no capability to reply.

The Ogre Clans to Mercantilis Imperia
There is no reply via Etherwave- as though there is either no desire, or no capability to reply.

Sylphan Elves to Mercantilis Imperia
The reply from the Elves is a strained contact, but rather frank. Likely, a reflection of the scenario they were in,

"Any supplies you may have to offer would be greatly valued: If you have anything else you can offer, we're willing to take it, but we do not have much to offer in return whilst we fight this incursion from the Ogres."

Seaward Shogunate to Mercantilis Imperia
The offer of trade is accepted.

Jotun of Ur to Mercantilis Imperia
The offer of trade is accepted.

Demethian Empire to Mercantilis Imperia
The offer of trade is accepted.

Ghallal to Mercantilis Imperia
There is no reply via Etherwave- as though there is either no desire, or no capability to reply.

Beastman Clans to Orc's of the Fallen Tree
The answer is a series of bleats and caws, before- at last- a cohesive voice shouts out all the rest,

"WE. WANT. MEAT. LIVING MEAT. PEOPLE MEAT. BLOOD!"

Seaward Shogunate to the Deep Trolls
The response letter was straightforward:

The Grand Daimyo shall be leading our Shogun's forces, and the forces of those who have pledged support, in but a few months' time. We hope to press back the Sho'rak from the outlying islands, and force them back to the mainland, where we may eventually claim a great victory! The Necromancer Ghallal is of no concern to our great campaign.

Demethian Empire to the Deep Trolls
"The Gnomes shall be dealt with soon enough: Their invasion shall break upon the walls of our fortress. Once their invasion has been routed, we will proceed to help deal with this Necromancer."

The Demethian Empire to the Kingdom of Ghares
There's a brief bit of conversation before the reply is shouted down,

"Entry is permissible to those of the Kingdom of Ghares, provided no aggression transpires!" He remarks, before a secondary call is made to open the gates. The massive doors swing open for the envoys, who are promptly met by a handful of men in bright red armor wearing the heraldry of the Demethian Empire, each man wearing a belt of Ether around his waist- obviously mages. They come on foot, though obviously undeterred by the possibility of a horseback-verses-footsoldier battle.

"Greetings. You are more than welcome to bring word to your associates that any aid you may have to offer in either repelling or deterring the Gnomes and their ilk from attacking us would be appreciated. Their aggression towards us, and outright imperialistic tendencies, concern us greatly. Even now, we were preparing for fortify ourselves and make our defenses impregnable. With any luck, aid from outside sources can come to intervene before the Gnomes can gain any footholds of note."

Seaward Shogunate to the Kingdom of Ghares
The response letter is quickly stamped from the office of the Shogun himself,

We thank you for your assistance in our grand campaign. We will be striking to overtake the outer islands first, and purging them of the vile Sho'rek. Once that is accomplished, we seek to solidify the outer islands as fortresses, and use them to launch raids upon the mainland.

The Magus Council to the Kingdom of Ghares
The massive Ogre paused to think on this. He held a massive hand, easily one large enough to swat the head off Gradius's shoulders, up to cup his chin in thought. Down below, several flashing illusions came to life. Dancing images of airships and regiments and moving supply lines drifted across the illusory terrain. Angry red blobs of light showed where the Sho'rek were attempting breakouts, only to be quashed by the quick interception of airships and fortified sea vessels.

"Master Tsu-lin!" The Ogre eventually called out, the Regionar's voice booming throughout the theater. There was a brief silence before an elderly man, easily more akin to the appearance of a valet than an actual 'Master' of anything. He wore a simple bright blue vest with gold buttons, cleanly polished leather shoes, and striped white and gray pants. His hands were gloved, with two arcane symbols on them, stitched into the fabric: A symbol of a fire, and a symbol of wind. On the palm of each glove was the depiction of a rock and a a teardrop.

Thullock explained plainly, gesturing occasionally to the position Ghallal took up on the map, "Master Tsu-lin is a foreigner. One who found himself in these lands, as it were, for reasons that are unimportant. He has since come into the employ of the Council as a mercenary. One of several mercenaries, in fact, but the only one of the required talent tier-- a Tier Three Espionage Asset (+++)-- not currently deployed dealing with the Sho'rek or being tied up in our garrisons. As it is, Master Tsu-lin is the only asset besides myself fortifying this area in addition to our garrison troops." He remarked, "Please do ensure that he is used wisely in your assault. Ghallal's power as a member of the Black Court cannot be understated, but I feel competent that Master Tsu-lin-- with an appropriate attack strategy and accompanying allies-- can help give you the access needed to eliminate Ghallal."

The man nodded, his slightly slanted eyes beaming with happiness at the impending mission, "It shall be a great pleasure to be of assistance to yourselves!" He remarked, "The Shogunate was an interesting mission to undertake, but I have never had the pleasure of eliminating a member of the Black Court."

The Jotun of Ur to the Conclave
The Jarl of the Jotun would, in all his immense glory, contemplate this. Standing at an impressive thirty feet tall, he would be seated in an equally impressive and massive throne, staring down at the Conclave representative.

"You would have us break our trade ties with other nations?" He inquired, squinting eyes at the Conclave representative, "A Jotun does not break his word easily! We will trade for your Darksteel, yes, but we require much more than what any one source can provide for our mighty fleet!"

Beastmen Clans to the Conclave
Sym... would, to be a bit dreadfully punnish, sym-ply find himself in a rather nasty situation. Upon his arrival to the forests controlled by the Beastmen, and stating his request, he'd soon find himself subject to the curiosity of several massive creatures. Creatures whose girth and height were of such mutated and monstrous qualities that one might consider a lich an attractive thing in comparison. Bloated, distended bellies had tumors of raw Ether jutting out of them. Massive arms ending in chitin-coated claws and scythes seemed fit to carve through entire ranks of soldiers. Eventually, a simply massive Beastman would approach, standing over twelve feet tall with cloven feet. Its body was coated in black fur, and a massive nosering made of solid adamantine- engraved with angry runes of power- hung from its mutated face. Horns curled out from its forehead as angry white-grey eyes focused on the lich.

"You. Want. Talk?" It rasped out, a pair of battle axes hanging from his side each one glowing with an angry black energy to it. An abyssal energy. Clearly, the steel axes it wielded were not of normal origin.

Salm Republic and Seaward Shogunate to the Conclave
Consider us interested in your proposition. What price would you name, and what degree of aid can you offer?

The Knights of Ether, Magus Council, and Dwarven Kingdom of Vanticras to the Conclave
Grand Marshall Cross of the Knights of Ether would meet the Conclave representative. Escorted by a trio of men in steel plate armor, glowing with enchantments, the men would stand vigil as the Grand Marshall spoke, dressed in a fine tabard of white and red.

"What price would you try and barter from us, as we fight for stability for all nations from the Beastmen?" He asked testily, "You make it seem as though this fight is not for your survival as well as the survival of others. The Beastmen cannot be bartered against nor traded with. They desire only Ether to further their designs and more bodies with which to expand their horde. All the same, what do you propose?"

Sho'rak Horde to the Conclave
From the Sho'rak, there is no reply. It is as though there is no desire, nor capability, to respond to whatever the Conclave offers them. No growls, no grunts, simply silence.

Sylphan Elves to the Melvaunian Kingdoms
The message is received swiftly, and the reply is just as swift:
"Whatever aid you hjave to offer will be greatly appreciated. Though we are striking constantly and swiftly against this incursion, the sooner it is ended, the sooner it can be known that there is peace across these lands."

To the Kingdom of Ghares and The Mercantilis Imperia
While searching for stories of the Deep Trolls, Warren Borck hears some rumors that are strange to say the least. When he asks a old Scrag about them this is what he had to say. "Don't let the Troll part fool you, they're as much Trolls as you are. They're a type of elemental, and old un's to. Accroding to all the Troll lore, The Grimsha-ckari'ri formed at the same time as the world itself did. Fact, the reason they're immune to magic? They predate it. They've seen the rise of magic, demons, mortals and all life. You see, mortals like us, we can't hear or see the world as it trys to speak to us. We've lost the True lanugage. But, the Deep ones, they've never forgotten. While we use magic to act as a messenger to the world, telling it what to do, they skip that, and talk to pradmoridal forces directly. Fact, that they jusy dissapeared trick is a old one fer them. For that rune scribe, all he did was compress time, propobly for no more then a few seconds. Course, be glad they don't know your name. Not your use name, but your True Name."

The Knights of Ether, Magus Council, and Dwarf Kingdom of Vanticras PM
I called the beastmen a horde, and in this I did not misspeak. They are a tidal wave, a force of nature, they cannot be stopped.
But a force that cannot be stopped may still be diverted. I shall say no more than that, this being, despite all our efforts, an potentially unsecured conversation.
With respect to your position, Grand Marshall Cross, the Conclave do not fight wars. We see the beastmen threaten the south and hear the warcry of the Seaward Shogunate, many among us desire to help, yet if you know your history you will know the Conclave has never gone to war, save in defence.
So we will use other, more effective measures of aiding both parties.
... And then there's the but. A wise man told me anything a man says before but doesn't really count. So here is ours. We see no inherent benefit to the Conclave in saving the south. We are not of the south, nor do we desire to be from the south, nor do we have any interest in the south. So, to be utterly crude, if we risk the lives of our people in this venture, what's in it for us?

Salm Republic and Seaward Shogunate
'I speak for the consensus of the Inner Circle, united in one thought it was thus I was dispatched. The Sho'rek pose a threat to all in the west. They would not move against the Conclave unless your two nations were removed, similarly if that were to happen, little would stand between us and devastation.
Thusly it is viewed that your victory is desired, but the preservation of your troops is essential. For that reason I now speak to you.

OOC: 6 esp to scout the Sho'rek in exchange for 4 econ?

Jotun of Ur
I am gratified to learn you consider your sworn word so heavily. Forgive my moment of grandstanding, with utmost respect I shall speak once more on the matter and then never again, observing the fidelity of your word. The numbers of your fleet will be increased, it's reputation will be diminished.
Darksteel for your flagship then, and for the heart of your fleet. And remember my lord, your sworn word, this fleet shall not sail against the Conclave.

OOC: I'll supply as much as the giants need. Willing to throw up to 6 econ at this trade pact, if it'll be matched. The giants can decide the exact number. Also 4 econ for 6 magic.

Beastmen PM
With a dead bone smile that gave away nothing of his intentions Sym stared at the beastman silently for several seconds.
Considering the other beastman below his attention he communicated with the hulking black figure directly.
Good. Word of a champion was not unfounded. Thou art mighty, I see that. But thou might be mightier still. I hear the Ogres are taking prisoners, I see those fell axes, I suspect this is already understood.
Those in the south tell us trade with beastmen is impossible. They are fools. I understand what thou wants, I want the same. Power. To thee that comes in form of ether, armament and flesh. I can offer the last two.

The Knights of Ether, Magus Council, and Dwarf Kingdom of Vanticras to the Conclave
The Grand Marshal would simply frown, shaking his head, "If you think that you will be safe, secluded on your island and separated from the mainland by the seas, you are foolish in the extreme. If the Beastmen are allowed to consolidate their forces and press south, there will be an ocean of mutants that flood across these lands, and then across the waters onto your own. For how long do you think your soldiers could stand to repel a dozen ships? A hundred? A thousand? What number of vessels, looted by the Beastmen and crudely guided across the oceans, do you feel it would take to feel they are a very real threat to your lands? You may have 'other means' available, but they will be unable to hold out forever. Aid us now in pacifying the threat, help sow disharmony amongst the Beastmen, and you will have a major concern for your peoples removed." He remarked curtly, speaking with his hands. He was a man that was gracefully ascending into the status of a venerable warrior, but he still had passion in his words.

Salm Republic and Seaward Shogunate
The reply would be swift, but certain,

"Very well then. We accept your offer of aid: We shall each contribute to your coffers, so as to lessen the individual impact in the hopes of being able to attain some measure of success with the aid of your covert forces. It should be prudent to warn you, however, that the Sho'rek are a fearsome and deadly beast. They are things spawned both of this world and of the Abyss, and their vile nature has made them deadly to all but the most seasoned and talented of warriors. This battle shall not be an easy one."

Jotun of Ur to the Conclave
The Jarl of the Jotun shook his head, "We shall not break our pacts. However, if you wish to trade outside of that, we can reciprocate up to two tons of materials into this trade pact in extra funding. [++ Econ]"

There was a brief pause, "If you have any further matters or offers to make, we are listening, but the Jotun of Ur must remain strong and independent, open to all ties!"

Beastmen Clans to the Conclave
The Warlord of the Beastmen seemed to not be intimidated by the stare, simply matching it with his own, giving an almost doglike pant as he listened to the lich's words.

"We have plenty of Ether." He commented, smiling widely. The monster's teeth were stained and rotting, yet they had grown from the teeth of whatever he had once been into a maw full of sharp and pointed tusks, each one fighting to look more menacing and deadly than the last, "We can feed forever upon it. Arm us. Give us meat. Living meat. Game." He remarked, leaning forward to level with the lich, "We will leave your clan for last. Eat Dwarves and magick-users. Feast upon flesh of Ogres and Dragon. That is trade." His words... were not a request, apparently.

Beastmen Clans to Orc's of the Fallen Tree
"You bring meat, then we talk. The Clans shall unify soon, and soon we will spill over your lands! Soon you learn what real fighting is like!"

Ogre Clans to the Orc's of the Fallen Tree
"You talk allies?" The Ogre Mage on the other end of the line replies, "We gots plenty of Ogres- we crush puny Elves first, then we show what-what!" He remarks, "Orcs is big and tough, but Ogres is bigger an' tougher! We can smash a lot workin' together. What you offerin'?"

Dragon King to the Orc's of the Fallen Tree
As the Orc flew off, a number of men and women could be seen heading down from one of several villages along the mountainside. Judging from their scales and reptilian features, they were clearly half-dragons. There was a brief period of deliberation before a new message was carved into the stone.

"The Dragon Lord Skjalandir shall not have his dominion infringed upon. The Orc's of the Fallen Tree, and all other races, are henceforth warned against entry upon His Dominion unless otherwise invited, subject to the full fury of the draconic species. All traders, unless those giving tribute or beseeching His Majesty for intervention, are henceforth prohibited from infringing on these lands. Violation of this absolute territory shall be met with death. Proceed at your own risk."

Warren Borck was slightly confused with the stories he had heard. They were unlike the ones he had heard, where the stories described the Deep Trolls more like.. Trolls. Unsure of what to make of it, he brought out report to the others, who were similarly confused, if they spent thought to it. Because, after all, they had their hands full enough. Now piqued in interest, just like his companion the magician, Warren Borck couldn't just leave it by. But he found himself doing just that as he was occupied with his other tasks. He did keep an eye out for rumors or stories of them, but somehow the unconscious feeling of such a story not being able to be true, despite having heard a few here speak of it, kept him back from investing further thought in it, rather using his free time to relax and regain energy.

The Magus Council
Master Tsu-lin was a remarkable sight to Gradius Demarchy, but he paled in comparison to what he had just already seen on his visits. Pleased to see Regionar Thullock reacting to his suggestion like this, he gave a nod in his direction before turning to Master Tsu-lin to welcome him. "Greetings, I am Gradius Demarchy, representing the Kingdom of Ghares. It is a pleasure to meet you, Master Tsu-lin." He says with a smile, feeling confidence rise. "We will do our best to achieve an outcome in our favour, you can be sure of that." Looking to Regionar Thullok and Master Tsu-lin he nodded. "Thank you."

To Gradius Demarchy, this marked a succesful visit to the Magus Council, and he was grateful for that. He would stay for a while longer to hash out some details. One of those is that a Ghares detachment would come for Master Tsu-lin's presence after the Ghares army had been mobilised.

Orc's of the Fallen Tree
It takes some time for the orcs' message to reach the decision making part of the Conclave. Ether Radios are illegal, possession of one is punishable by death. Some lone rebel family deep in the mountains, far from any Psi Emmitters had somehow come by a radio. The Skullman who executing the family came by what he assumed was a garbled dictation of the transmission in their notes.
The reply followed shortly after
That's a good deal. We'll take it. I understand you boyz like "Dakka." My boyz are very good at making dakka. You want, you let us know.

The Conclave representative stared at the Grand Marshall, making no attempt at hiding his annoyance.
'There is nothing more to discuss. I came here to negotiate, this is something you are unwilling to do. Maybe we will help you, maybe we will not. If we do, we will still consider there to be a matter of payment.'

Beginning of turn 2

The reconquest of Mare Dal Sarat

One of the daimyo of the Seaward Shogunate walked nervously around the ship's deck. They were getting near the Sho'rek Horde, and he knew it. His opinion about this 'reconquest of the Mare Dal Sarat' was clear. They would have no chance against the abyss-spawned horde, even with an army as big as they had gathered. Amongst the ships sailing towards Dal Sarat were ships from the Shogunate, the Kingdom of Ghares, privateers and many with the coat-of-arms of some powerful family. And they all had the same destination.

Genero.

The first target. According to the intel the daimyo had received it should fall rather quickly. Only a few demons had been seen on that island, thus it was chosen as the initial landing point. After that, a forward base would be established on the island. Then Url, Dilts and Lancer would be taken over. Too bad the Sho'rek didn't approve of this plan.

Several demons were already waiting for them, invisible on the beaches. The Shogunate took the brunt of the losses, as their men were the first to arrive. The demons are tearing men apart like a preschooler rips the wrapper of their Christmas presents, and reinforcements are refusing to go even near the beach, where the horrors from the abyss are waiting for them. Thus, almost all of the men on the first landing wave were lost, while only a few of the demons had been killed. Now the daimyo is desperately trying to save the situation. He has ordered all men to stay on the ships, and the ships are opening fire on the beach. It's quite hard to aim at invisible things though, especially if said things are moving at high speeds.

Raids into the elven lands

The ogres are continuing their raids to capture elves, and it seems they are even increasing the pace of the raids. More and more raids are made, and the Ogres go deeper and deeper into elven territory. The elves are setting up ambushes everywhere they can, but they still have no hope of stopping the raids alone.

Luckily for them, the Melvaunian Kingdoms have stepped up and sent help. They didn't send much in the way of their own armed forces, but somehow they managed to convince the Dragon King to help the elves. Interestingly, the Dragon King is capturing live ogres and taking them to his lair.

WAAAAAGH!

The Orcs of the Fallen tree are on the move.

Three large orc armies are attacking the known settlements of the Deep Trolls. They are attacking everyone and everything near the settlements, disregarding profession, age and gender. Several of the smaller towns have already been completely decimated, and the orcs are moving fast towards new targets.

Currently, the orcs have taken only minor losses, and the 'war' has mostly been a bloodbath.

The necromancer

Ghallal's actions have caused several factions to unite their strength to take the vile necromancer down. The Kingdom of Ghares and the forces of the Magus Council form the majority of the forces that have gathered against the necromancer. Ghallal already has quite a large army of undead under his command.

The necromancer clearly has the advantage, his army being about twice as large as the one facing him. The undead forces rush at the human forces in an attempt to win the fight quickly. The human forces suffer heavy losses, until a strike team gathered by the Kingdom of Ghares manages to get in close to the necromancer.

However, they had forgotten that the necromancer is still a force to be reckoned with, even if he is alone. He is a powerful mage, after all. Ghallal manages to strike down most of the strike team, but is eventually stricken down by one of the men. The undead threat is over, at least for now.

Other news:

The struggle between the Magus Council and the Beastmen continues. Neither side seems to be gaining a clear advantage over the other.

The Jotun of Ur have found someone to help in the building the ships. The new ships are stronger than the old models, and they are very proud of their new ships.

The Demethian Empire keeps strengthening its grip on the airspace of the continent. They are building even more airships.

To the Kingdom of Ghares (Right in the Throne room)
A voice comes from no where, seeming to pulse from the earth beneath your feet. "King Richard Pegasus, Scion of the Hufl'tujeck, The Grim'shol-thum request a adunice with you." The earth then stops it's rumbling, but if Evenar Mistlemoor was there, he almost could recoginze the voice. It was a deep troll, complete with that strange double echo.

To the Juton of Ur
A voice is carried on the wind. "Scions of Gul'vakhaum, we request a meeting between us."

In the north, as the orcs continue their drive down into the Deep Trolls realm, a single word nearly causes a earthquake. Heard even as far south as the Badland Khans most southern reachs, It seemed as if the World itself spoke. "STOP"

To the orcs of the fallen tree
What seems to be almost a fragment of the earth stands before you. With a single word, it almost seems as if the world itself thunders in fury at you. Glimpsing into the Elders eyes, some of the orcs start feeling uneasy, glimpsing barely hidden truths that only those who mesure time in geological drifts can withstand. And then, a mental voice crashes into you. "You sent the Deep into the Grey fields, and for what? To sate a crude lust for blood? You are as bad as the scourge was. Send forth your cheif, so that we may use reason. No further blood must be shed here today."

The Kingdom of Ghares

The Celebration of Life

A regiment of soldiers stood at the Main Plaza in Ludir, the capital. A mighty banner with the symbol of the realm was held up at the front of the regiment, joining those spread across the Plaza, as many were gathered here. Most remarkable was the noble group on a raised wooden platform. Here, the Royal Banner waved in the wind, and besides it stood the person related to it: King Richard Pegasus. With some of the court standing or sitting behind him in decently decorated furniture, he looked out along the crowd gathered before him.

Trumpets blew loud and glorious sounds through the air, just before the King began his speech. “Greetings my fellow citizen. As you are all aware, the Kingdom has faced a terrible enemy in the last months. The forces of Ghallal, the Necromancer, have threatened the good lives off our neighbours. With the aid of the Magus Council, we have gone forth to defeat this enemy. It is with great pleasure that I announce that our campaign against this vile evil doer and bringer of pain and misery has come to end as we claim victory!”

Quickly, the King raised his hands as the crowd started to cheer. With an even louder voice, he started off: “But we can not rest knowing that we are victorious. The remains of the undead forces of this mage still linger in crevices, and the damage they have done upon our fellow humans can not be undone so easily. Loved ones have been lost, to us in the men and women we sent, but also to those who have lost them in the conquest this encroacher led. It is for that reason we still lend out our hand in help, that we offer our aid to rid the last of these forces, and we will stand ready to help our brothers and sisters in this time of need. The Kingdom will send supplies and resources so that they may once more rebuild and live the good life. It is that life which we as a nation and as a people protect and hold dear.”

A brief moment of silence fell as he gave each a moment to think. “We will mourn the fallen, both of ours and of our brethren in the coming days. As we speak, we are giving our support where necessary, so that we may all flourish. These brave men that stand besides me have fought well in the battle against the necromancer and his forces. They have brought the news and gained some rest, are ready to move out again to lend their support. Their courage and steadfastness are hallmarks of our civilization, which we should all cherish and applaud! Our hearts go out to them, as well as their companions and comrades at the lands, fulfilling their duty to their fellow men and women.”

The excitement of the crowd was increasing, inspired by the King’s words and by the pride he had instilled in them. Smiling as he looked from his platform over the crowd, he was happy to give a further announcement. “We will continue to lend support for the coming months, and I ask that each of you carry the fate of our brothers and sisters far away with you. Once the lives are once again stable, and our brave men and women return from their mission of aid and support, we will have a Celebration of Life! To celebrate our victory and the effort and courage our family members in arms have put to overcome this unholy army. To proclaim the dominance of life and joy over the unnatural undead and unlife. Let it be a statement that justice and good prevails to lift up life and all its wonders!” And with that last, loud statement, fist held high, King Richard Pegasus knew he would not need to add anything further, as the crowd was cheering lively, as were the soldiers besides the platform. All looked up at their nation to see the strength it had displayed to safeguard them and their neighbours from unnatural forces.

The Kingdom of Ghares sends its thanks, and in specific to the assistance lend by Master Tsu-lin. His expertise was a major contribution in the battle, and he is invited to the Celebration of Life to be honoured for his services, if the Magus Council can spare him for a short time. Regionar Thullock is invited to the celebration as well, and the Kingdom hopes for good relations in the future as well.

The Deep Trolls
The voice caused a stir in the throne room. Immediately, guards rushed forward, a court magician started to prepare a spell, a number of the nobles that were in conversation with the King had their hands swing to the hilts of their swords, while the others stepped away or stepped behind those with better combat skills. The servants panicked away with a few screams, which would lead to the other parts of the Palace to know about this soon.

As the Kingdom has a lack of knowledge about the Deep Trolls and their names, that it is one of their representatives asking an audience seems to go unnoticed for now, with some of the guards even whispering about this being the work of a demon.

“He who calls himself the Grim'shol-thum, I will state now that the audacity displayed is not taken in good heart. Your act is one bereft of manners and formality. Who are you that you must ask for an audience here, in the throne room? And what is this Hufl'tujeck of which you are a Scion?”

A frown already indicates that he has questions, as several words and meanings eluded him. But unfortunately, the Kingdom was not advanced enough to contain the knowledge spoken, and as the advisor nervously held up his hands in lack of understanding, even the mage shook his head. Neither knew what this Thu'um was, nor what was meant with the primal spirit of Mare that Rides the Hurricane. Never mind Hufl'tujeck..

Flinching slightly with one eye, the King turned and for a moment was silent as he considered his options. Eventually he spoke up once more, though a certain wavering in his voice at facing this unknown could only be hidden after the first few words. "Alright. Probobly because it was faster then understanding the concepts of the world so well they became a part of you. And thinking about it, we should probobly translate a few words we used. Grim'shol-thum is old Trollish, and roughly translates as "Deepdwelling Deepoflore- Voicesofthedepths." Old Trollish dosn't translate well into non troll tounges, and we didn't think you'd want to hear our name for ourselves. Mostly because if we put it in old Trollish, well, it might take to long. The Mare that Rides the Hurricane, well, the possible reason for the mixup is that she was also called the mother of pegasi. And as your family name is Pegasus, we thought there might be some link. We're kind of reculsive, so we're sorry for getting that one mixed up. And as for the Translation of Hufl'tujeck, all that means is "Winged Blood of the Hurricane". "Sir, The Bane has just arrived to reinforce the fleet." Saluting, the man in an army officer gave the news to the captain of the ship. Decorated with several symbols indicating his higher status, he gave a nod back. "Just the news I have been waiting for. Thank you." With a small gesture, the man moved off again. Turning to the advisor to his side, he spoke up. "These demons are tough nuts to crack and the losses our side has suffered are much greater than those we have caused. This does not bode well. Go meet up with the Seaward Shogunate and see if they have a plan, Reon Atunar." "Yes, Captain." With a formal bow, Reon Atunar made his leave, swiftly going to the man who delivered the news. The King was off balance. Not in the literal physical sense, but by what was happening. Suffice to say, he and his court were dealing with things they did not understood, from the rumbling to the whole reference to that Mare. So, a tactical move was to be made. "A formal letter would have been much more polite than this.. whatever this is. To get back to the first subject you raised. You request an audience. It is granted in a weeks time, at the Ruchalbach Keep, located at Castagneto in Gelbasi. I do not consider this means of communication an audience and would prefer it not be used again after this conversation without prior warning." He said, just to be clear. And to spell it out.. "I expect to see someone there. Whom and what can I expect to come?" The what was reference to the question asked before, of what whoever is speaking is. As the King, so far, still had no idea with which group he was dealing with.. though some of the last mentioned things were hints he would consult with his advisors later on if needed.

Hearing the news stems Reon Atunar at ease and he informs the Seaward Shogunate that the Kingdom of Ghares' navy will be ready to aid in the attack when the signal for the push is sent out.

The Deep Trolls
While the conversation was now over, the shock of that small piece of information still rippled through those present. The Deep Trolls were regarded as an underground dwelling race of monsters, seen as just an offshoot of Trolls and without any noteworthy raise in intelligence. That idea clashed with their displayed grasp on language, their use of titles and names, as well as this obviously magical communication.

The mage present immediately started to use his magic capabilities to study the court room under the orders of the King, intend of warding off this kind of thing in the future. Just like the other advisors, he was incapable of providing His Majesty with further information on the Deep Trolls that may indicate anything towards the knowledge and skill they would have if what they just heard was the truth.

Frustrated to a point where even Her Majesty, the Queen Leona, could not alleviate his worries. As she stayed behind in the capital, the King set out with a heavy heart to the Ruchalbach Keep, located at Castagneto in Gelbasi. A stone and sturdy keep, typically medieval, with a moat and draw bridge around its walls, it stood ready to face any siege. Though it would likely not be ready to what they would have to face. Along with him were several military men and a few mages, to safeguard him in what is to come. For the tales of the Deep Trolls the Kingdom of Ghares had all indicated that they are not a race to talk to, and that was exactly what they were going to do..

Soon, the day comes where a week has passed by since the last auditory meeting and all the staff and people in the Keep, including the King himself. An audience for a species they considered brutes and savages, but had not displayed any of such in their message. Everybody was wary, to say the least, as those who held fear in their hearts were numerous as well. With the doors of the Keep open, though guarded, they waited nervously.

The guards at the gate are fending off their fear for the sight of this monster by drawing upon the courage of their profession, warding off the tales of Trolls with their orders and the lack of displayed hostility.

Allowed in, the Deep Troll is led to a hall by two guards. Offered some refreshments on the way, eventually the question is asked: "Whom may I introduce?" by one of the servants.

Upon giving the title, the servant moves to the Hall and (loudly) announces the newcomer. In the hall there are situated several experienced guards, standing to the sides of the Hall in front of pillars looking ahead without sway. The King stands up from his seat behind a large rectangular table dominating the hall in the center. Several other aristocrats, probably advisors, stand up as well. The aristocrats seem unsure of what to make of their visitor, but eventually most politely bow.

"Greetings and welcome to Ruchalbach Keep in the Kingdom of Ghares. We offer our hospitality as long as no hostile action is made." A short pause, as King Richard Pegasus beckons everybody, including the Deep Troll, to once more take a seat. "Please tell me, why do the Deep Trolls seek contact with the Kingdom of Ghares now?"

Meanwhile, most of the people here seem uneasy. While the guards remain relatively unmoving, the aristocrats shift occassionaly, and even the King seems to put effort not to show anything. There is, however, a female advisor who seems calm and composed, taking everything in, a stark contrast to the man sitting to his opposite side, who is sweating intensely. His dress stands out from the aristocrats as well, with embroided patterns and a few mystical symbols visible on certain strategic locations, such as on his gloves and near his neck. The man is obviously nervous, unlike his colleague sitting next to him, who frowns with interest and was one who did not bow, having been too taken in with studying the Deep Troll while thoughtfully rolling his white mustache between two fingers.

What to say when a monster from the tales enters your hall, is friendly and polite, wants to talk and holds yourself in proper esteem?

Respond with honesty. "I have to say that you surprise me, as has what transpired before. While our tales do not speak of the Deep Trolls as made of such expensive materials, they do speak of them as monsters preferring the dark of the underground, unintelligent and bloodthirsty, like their surface brethren. You, however, do not seem to match that resemblance at all. Intelligent and well spoken, your actions have a clear goal. If I may ask, how many of your kind are like that?" The King knew it would be a sensitive subject to touch, but better now and in earnest, than later.

To the Kingdom of Ghares (PM)

The Jarl sighs. "We're a lot smarter then surface trolls. As for just how smart we are..." He seems to be grining here. "We consider the gnomes to be children in the field of artifice. As for the blood thirsty bit, as a whole, we'd rather dig a pit trap and spread bogeymen tales rather then fight. We the only time we get.... upset, is when demons are invo..lv..ed" He seems to be geting slightly out of temper just mentioning them. All the body lanuage points to a long, old intesne hate. "We remeber every last scar those... THINGS left when the world was young. But other then them, we're both reculsive and philosohical by nature." He spends a few deep breaths calming down. "I apologize for my lack of manners, in allowing my temper to get the better of me. And the darkness bit... well, to be honest, we don't see what you would call colours that well. We see primarily in tones of heat. We can see in colours if we have to, but we grow up seeing the glowing heat patterns of the underground." He then proceeds to pull something out of his pocket. It's a small box. Opening it, there is a figurine, carved in exquiste detail. It's of a horse with wings, a pegasus! But, by how its carved, as the light shines on it from diffrent angles, the lines, which resemble clouds, seem to move, so it seems like the pegasus is riding a storm. It's easily the match of anything the dwarves can carve. "It's a custom of ours to give a token on the first offical meeting with a freindly nation. Sage Kish'vistoor donated it from his collection of carvings. We hope that you like it."

The Kingdom of Ghares

The Deep Trolls
The Jarl's suggestion of them being far superior technologically was met with sceptic looks. To take on the premise that the Deep Trolls were no savages was one thing, but then to take on the suggestion that they were far more advanced technology wise than the gnomes without any proof to indicate such was too much to ask of this group. What they would take away from this, however, was that the Deep Trolls would be most likely advanced compared to their own, which set quite a number of them thinking. Especially the mage ever so fond of his moustache seemed to be looking at the Deep Troll in thought with this bit of revealed information.

"There is no need to apologise for your temper regarding that subject. The insolence and depravity displayed by those aberrations deserve no manners." The King said politely when the Jarl calmed down. And when the Jarl revealed the box, the audience showed curiosity, which sparked up when the figurine was revealed.

Several of the aristocrats could not help but look at it with awe and an open mouth, while others were more composed though looked at the object with eyes betraying an awe only concealed. The King looked impressed, while the moustached mage looked curious and his nervous companion looked ever more nervous.

After a moment of silence as everybody took in the amazing sight, captivating their thoughts, the King was amongst the first to regain composure and politely nodded towards the Jarl. "The Pegasus statuette is clearly a masterpiece of art and dignity. The Kingdom of Ghares is honoured by such a gift, Jarl. Sage Kish'vistoor, as well as you and your kind have our utmost thanks for this amazing gift. It inspires awe in its work of splendour. Tell Sage Kish'vistoor that his gift is much appreciated." The words were earnest, as it was clearly visible that the carving is something far above any other carving any of them has ever seen.

For a few moments, the hall remains quiet, but the King finds it upon himself to speak once more. "It seems that we have sorely misjudged your kind over the years then." He casts a glance at the other aristocrats, but this statement only eludes nods from people, if they react at all. "For that reason, we would like to invite you, Sage Kish'vistoor and up to five of your acquaintances to the festivities revolving around the Greenleaf Dance, a two-day event, here at Castagnete, which is the nearby village. During the weekend, you and your company will be free to stay at Ruchalbach Keep. It will take place at the weekend, five and a half week from now."

This caused a bit of a stir amongst those present. It was a bold move on the King's part, but an obvious first step towards better relations between their people. Those gathered around here looked sceptical at the idea, some with obvious disapproval, others who had already figured out it was but a logical step to take and the Greenleaf Dance was an excellent opportunity.

The Jarl looks happy about the reaction to the statuette. The same type of ernest plesure that a craftsman would show when others compliment their work.

"We would be honored to attend. Though we would have one request." With this he looks slightly sheepish.

"Because it sounds like a formal event, well. As I said, we tend to be reculsive, and all our, knowledge of the surface social graces and manners might be a bit out of date. So, the request is if we could.." He's looking slightly embarrased and nervous, which is almost funny to see. "If we could have some coaching on what the expectations would be. As we say in Khaz'am Chor, Each event is it's own customs. We would not want to unintentionly cause offence because of our ingnorangce of your ways." He's sincere. The Deep Trolls, if he's any indication are a polite bunch, if a tad informal, and the embarrastment and nervousness might have come from asking for a favor, preticuly so soon after meeting you.

The Deep Trolls
This time, a smile formed on a few of the man present. That was a good point, as they were unfamiliar with the Deep Trolls, so was the reverse the same. Yet, some of those smiles changed to thoughtfulness. Perhaps in the future they should look more into the ways of the Deep Trolls if this relationship was to deepen.

"Your request is one speaking of manners and we will happily oblige. You can arrive early, up to five days, and I will ensure that there is somebody ready to tell you of the history involving the Greenleaf Dance festivities and its customs." The thoughtfulness of the Deep Trolls seems to gain some measure of respect amongst those gathered.

The King allows the Deep Troll a chance to speak again, if so desired. For now, the people gathered here are suitably impressed by both the announcements as well as the gift. Ready to pick up if the Jarl is done for now, the King is well aware of everybody's state. Some aristocrats are still fascinated by the gift, others are thinking about what was said, while some, such as the two mages, seem to study the Deep Troll. The moustached mage does so without shame, while the nervous one casts a glance every now and then.

Assuming the permission is granted, he leaves. If anyone was keeping a eye on him, they noticed that as soon as he walked a mile for two, retrived a strange looking object from a hiding place. He then proceed to mount it, and head off to where the dead drop was located. Seems the Deep Trolls have some form of mechanical mount.

The King grants the Deep Troll permission and soon the Jarl leaves the nobles behind, having shaken their view on the Deep Trolls. In the time to come, some would go back to their own homes and the news would spread amongst the populace.

However, basis for new rumours were not far away. From the guards on top of the castle, the rumour was born that the Deep Troll rode away on a strange metallic creature, which some guess to be a horse, while others might take it for some beast from the underground.

And so, weeks passed, until the week before the Greenleaf Dance made its way on the calender, where Rachelbach Keep started preparing for the festivities to come.

OOC: Let's assume that the Greenleaf Dance is in the next turn. If by that time the Mercantalis Imperia have not responded yet, I'll free up Evenar Mistlemoore again.

One of the clan chiefs of the Orcs makes it to the feast. In typical manner he had run all the way from the Orcish homelands in full armor and as such had only just made it in time.

Glancing over the food thats prepared the clan chief looks bewildered before in what a appears to be a genuine attempt at stealth but in reality more of a mockery of it, he reaches into his saddle bag and pulls out a practically raw cows head and slams it on his plate. Delighted to find such luxury suddenly on his plate he begins to feast. Between mouthfuls he discusses the agreement with the Deep Trolls.
"My boyz be checkinz your all be keeping your wordz then we move to Beastmens yes?" he wipes his chin greedily "You know they hasz ether in them? Do Trollfolk use ether?"

Start of Turn 3

The Bestial gathering

Near the border of the Ether Knights and the Beastmen horde, a horrifying performance is taking place. Several of the Beastmen, massive creatures whose bodies have been warped in ways one can't even imagine, with bloated bellies which are slowly dripping Ether as the Beastmen march towards the meeting place.

There, the champion awaits. The Beastmen have finally found their new champion that will lead them, that will get them their much needed flesh. A champion, that will lead them feast in the dwarven halls and in the caves of the Dragons. Perhaps, with a little luck, they might even get to taste a demon. But the first target is not the dragons or demons, it's the puny people who call themselves 'The Knights of Ether'.

The champion himself is the largest of the Beastmen, which might be one of the reasons, if not the reason, that he was chosen to become the champion. The champion is a combination of bear and man, with large tusks added to the mix. Thousands of the Beastmen are gathering behind it, ready to attack the Knights. It won't take long before the horde is unleashed.

The reconquest of Mare Dal Sarat

The men are horrified, unwilling to return to the beach.

This time soldiers of the Kingdom of Ghares were going to join the assault as well.

When they left their ships, it was a sight far too familiar; men ripped apart. After several hours of desperate fighting the remaining 9 demons were finally defeated. The Shogunate had won. They had taken over. At least this one island, that is. The Shogunate has begun fortifying the island, hoping they will manage to hold it against the almost inevitable counterattack.

WAAAAAGH!

It seems the Deep Trolls have approached the Orcs of the Fallen Tree for peace talks. The trolls have invited the Orcs over to their cities so they can discuss the situation.

The peace talks seem to go along nicely, and the Trolls are disarming their forces as was demanded in the peace treaty. In every major city and settlement a small Orcish force is watching over the process.

Once the trolls have finished, the Orcs turn against them. The cities of the Trolls are in chaos, with Orcs slaughtering every troll they see, even though they all are unarmed. Trolls are trying to flee the cities and find shelter outside their borders.

Other news:

The Xian Je traders, indisputably the richest traders in the world, are now looking to expand their business even further. They have begun to search for a good place for an HQ. So far, they have had no such thing and have been more of the travelling merchant type. Rumours say they are opening a HQ to start a bank, and loans will be handed out soon, after they finish building the HQ.

The Demethian Empire, after the Gnomish threat of war proved void, has started to use most their air ships on trading flights. They are also going to start scheduled flights sometime in the near future.

Strange messages have been sent from the Abyssal Break to some of the... less honourable factions. Exact content of these messages is only known to the recipients and the senders, whoever they may be.

It seems the Ogres aren't capturing the elves for themselves. Several caravans of elven slaves, accompanied by Ogre guards, have been spotted making their way towards the Badland Khans.

You see, I have a little problem. And I believe you might be able to help me solve that problem, as macabre that sounds. Of course, I will compensate you for your time. Ask anything you want, and you will get it. If you get something for me...

First of all I must see you are capable to accomplish the task I'm going to give you... I want you to retrieve an orb from the Knights of Ether... They are holding it inside their citadel in that capital of theirs, Allarit. The fools are holding it in the Grand Hall, in a display case! You can not miss it... Retrieve it... And bring it to meee....

Greetings, orc.

If you could concentrate on this for just a little amount of time, I might spare your life.

You have proven yourself worthy of receiving a mission from me with that little show you have put up in the lands of those trolls.

I want you to fetch me something. Something shiny. The Dragon has it, you know of the Dragon King, yes? And don't worry about the Dragon, he has... other matters to tend to. Go to his mountain and find his lair. In there, you will find a little key, made of gold.

He probably has it somewhere visible, knowing his habits.

Get that key and bring it to me.

I will reward you for this, of course. Ask anything, anything at all, and you will get it. Now go, and get that key for me.

And hurry, for you are not the only one looking for that key...

Xian Je Traders-The Kingdom of Ghares, Melvaunian Kingdoms and the Salm Republic

Greetings to you all. As you might already know, we are trying to find a plot of land where we could build a central HQ for our operations. We decided to contact the three of you because of your good reputation.

There is one small thing that might cause problems. We need the land not to be part of your respective nations, but independent from any and all of your nations. This is for several reasons, but we assure you, nothing we would do would break any of the laws you have. And we still would honour those laws, and act just like it was part of your nation.

But we now want you to request bids. How much do you ask for such an honour? Keep in mind that this will, of course, increase your trade income in the long run.

Conclave

Beastmen: PM
Sym appears before the beastman champion. Somehow despite the blank death's head he radiates rage. Black wisps of his cloak flick about in agitation.
It has been a long time since anyone was stupid enough to steal from me. To steal also from the beastmen is suicidal. Even in a race as stupid as the orcs it is surprising. Surprising and outraging!
Their behaviour is highly suspect, my spies have been at work. I have news to share with you.
Never did I think I would dare speak these words to a beastman, and it has always been I who has dealt with your ancestors. You must stay your hand. The Knights of Ether can wait.
OOC: Show the beastmen the message the orcs sent to the trolls in post 68
They mean to move against you. I desire revenge against these thieves. I believe the Conclave and Beastmen can unite to wipe the orc blight from the planet. What say you? Leave the Knights for now. They will die another day. The orcs are insisting that their deaths come soon.
OOC: Couldn't think of an IC way of saying this... How much econ does 1 ether cost?

Orc's of a fallen tree:
The subject of which diplomat to speak to the orcs had been a matter of heated debate in the Inner Circle, one which had no small number of political causalities, as well as a few literal ones.
Eventually an elegant solution was found. A magical construct of an orc was created, it was designed to act as much like an orc as far as the Circle understood the brutish yet enigmatic race. It was this semireal illusion that spoke into the 'confiscated' ether radio
Ya. Dat sounds good. We bring lots of slashy and burny stuff. You bring money to meet our ships, we do trade then. K?
OOC: 6 magic in weapons for 4 econ sound ok?

Abyssal Break
An intriguing offer, though you might be surprised just how much the Conclave can ask for, we have excellent imaginations.
Yet it is foolish to deal with one whose nature is unknown. We will pass this trifling test. Then, before we aid you in anything, you will explain who and what you are. We shall proceed from there.

Seaward Shogunate, Salm Republic, Kingdom of Ghares
My Lords, I bring good news. We have been looking into a way of dispelling the demon's invisibility. Already we have discovered useful things. They are very susceptible to magic, I suggest you utilise this keeping your beachhead. We believe such a spell can be completed by season's end. However there is one problem. The magical components are expensive. Normally this would not be a problem, but we fear war with the orcs. You have seen their behaviour, they are our neighbours and already they have ambushed our trade caravans. The factions I represent consider aiding you worth the cost, yet they are not currently in ascendancy in the Inner Circle. Our whole economy is currently devoted to preparation for defence.
OOC: I'll give you the anti invis when I've finished it at EoT for 3 econ from each of you

Knights of Ether
Grand Marshall Cross is once again approached by a Conclave representative, though this time he is of much more senior rank and authority in the Inner Circle. John Frost was a man who had weathered over half a century of political and occasionally literal warfare with all the grace and effortless success of a bird at flight in heavy winds. Sometimes lifted, sometimes buffered and slowed, yet never ever tumbling down. Despite this he looked no older than 40, almost without a single worry line or sigh of stress. He approached the Grand Marshall totally at ease, seemingly without a care in the world
Forgive my intrusion Grand Marshall. I know you are a busy man. The beastman menace looms heavily over us all.
The man you previously spoke to told me of something he had seen here. In the Grand Hall of Allarit there is an orb. It sounds very similar to one I have read about. I believed the thing mythological, so I am very curious about it. Could you please tell me about this orb?

The Celebration of Life

With the rebuilding effort of the area hit by the necromancer completed, aided greatly by volunteers from the Kingdom, the army forces returned once more to their homeland. The people of the Kingdom could be proud that they have aided their neighbours, who now could pick up their normal lives again in as far as possible.

A large celebration was held throughout the country as each of the Duchies welcomed back their warriors in a small parade at each of the Duchy's capital. A few days of celebration was in order and the people partied throughout the night, happy to see their brethren return from the front, having aided others of their kind.

During the Celebration, the Ghares forces dedicated to protecting the island taken in the Mare Del Sarat were a bit thinner than usual, but soon after they were reinforced, ready to continue with the campaign against the Demons.

Relations worsened between the Ghares Kingdom and the Gnomish Technocracy

Public news is that a Councilor the Gnomish Technocracy visited the Ghares Kingdom and asked for their aid against the Demethian Empire, on the basis that they stole technology from the Technocracy. While the Ghares Kingdom remained neutral due to their positive standings with the Empire, after further research it has become clear that the Councilor's reason brought forth was nothing but a lie. This has worsened the relations between the Ghares Kingdom and the Gnomish Technocracy, and rumour has it that the Kingdom is trying to get rid of its contracts and debt with the Technocracy upon which it has relied for its more advanced technological weapons at the army, though is delayed by a lack of replacement.

The assualt of the Orcs is horrible and it is a race we can only see as a major threat. We are lucky they are far from our borders.

However, as the perception of the Deep Trolls is still negative in our lands, we request that you do not travel further from the assigned location. We will try to dispel false tales, but only so much can be done in time.

Greetings, Traders of Xien Je. We are honoured that you are considering cooperation with us for your plans of a Headquarters. We believe that our central location, honest trading and coastal location will be of great help to your goals.

We are willing to turn over a plot of land to your ownership if the land is not be part of our nation. If that is not enough, may we suggest the area Lundai bordered to us, the land south between Aschat and Urdatha, or one of the islands in Estallon, west of Tajuminoc, alternatively the island west of Neuvitas? They are currently unclaimed pieces of land.

Otherwise, we are willing to turn over ownership of one of Hesat's islands to the traders, an ideal port location. Another option is a plot land just north of Verbnas, in northern Gelbasi.

We are grateful to hear such news and we commend your research plans. We can understand your concerns with the Orcs. They are an aggressive, war-prone race whom we would all be better off without.

The fools! We accept your offer to crush the orcs.

But I need time. We will crush the Knights before we move against the orcs. The horde is already gathering, and it's impossible to change the target at this point.

OOC: They are attacking the Knights next EOT. They are not going for total destruction, so they will probably move against the Orcs in EOT 4.

And how does Ether cost? For you, from the Beastmen? ++++- econ per + Ether. If you provide them with flesh, you get a discount.

Salm Republic-Conclave (The Kingdom of Ghares, Seaward Shogunate)

Unlike our neighbours, we know we would have no chance against the Sho'rek horde. For this reason, we are not going to attack them. But we can not guarantee they will not attack us, so we are interested in this spell you speak of.

But we can not pay you [+++ econ] for it, for it's an outrageous demand. We offer you [+- econ] for the spell.

Seaward Shogunate-Conclave (Salm Republic, The Kingdom of Ghares)
Such a spell would greatly increase our odds against the demons!

We happily accept your offer!

Knights of Ether-Conclave
To be honest, we don't really know what it is or what it does. We do know that it dates back to the founding of our order, and that it has been on display ever since.

One of the vows one must make when becoming a knight is to protect the orb, and make sure it never falls in the wrong hands. So it must have been important to our ancestors, which is why we still protect it from whatever it needs protection from.

But, nowadays we mostly use it as an ornament.

Xian Je Traders-The Kingdom of Ghares (Melvaunian Kingdoms, Salm Republic)
While unclaimed land in the middle of nowhere might come cheaper to us, we need the plot from a city, or at least near one.

Any chance we could buy a plot of land near Fesin or Gelbas?

That certainly is crude. But, to answer your question, we would, if we could spare the men. Our strength come from our walls, which are some of the strongest ever built. We don't have much men to spare. But if you can gather enough support, so that we actually might stand a chance, we will participate.

We are a peaceful people, even if some say otherwise.

Breaking one's promises is a terrible act, we agree on that point. But the Orcs betrayed the Deep Trolls, who are not known for keeping their promises either. Would we join a crusade? As the Deep trolls were fleeing their citys, they allowed themselves one smirk. The Orcs would get nothing. They had taken the reminder of their devices and librarys, poisoned or destroyed the rest and tiggered the failsafe explosives. While most of the orcs would probobly escape, their main cities would be buried under tons of rock. And if the orcs invaded to take their lands... well, theres a reason why even the other undergound races had stayed clear of those areas. Sure, no short term effects, but the long term could win it.

We are willing to offer land near both Fesin and Gelbas, but we are also capable of offering land next to the city of Forfar, which can be a sizeable piece of coastal land, already connected to our infrastructure, yours to do with how you see. As we understand the benefits your presence would award us, we are willing to offer one of these locations for free for you to establish your Headquarters.

Conclave
We appreciate the offer, it is a much more reasonable one. We will get back to you as soon as we have finished our dealings with the Xien Jhe Traders.

Deep Trolls
Jarl Eelshivin and the other Deep Trolls are welcomed in Ruchelbach Keep. They are brought to a hall and ont he way, it is clear some servants are already busy bringing in some supplies for the festivities at hand. When they see the Deep Trolls, they either halt and shirk back, waiting for them to pass with obvious dread in their faces, or quickly move on, trying to get out of the way.

The guard leading them seems uneasy, but not otherwise disturbed. Brought to a guest Hall, Evenar Mistlemoore is present in the room, as well as four other people. A male, dressed in a garb rich with fine patterns, most likely an aristocrat, while another is dressed in a uniform of a higher status servant, something akin to a butler. Then a female with proper clothes and a music instrument sling over her shoulder. The last is a female in a dress of a high quality fabric.

"Greetings. I welcome you to Ruchelbach Castle." is the uneasy welcome the aristocrat gives. He quickly starts off with the topic at hand to cover up his unease. "I am Marut Haffelstan, and here to tell you about the Greenleaf Dance, along with my associates. Master Mistlemoore has quite a detail of knowledge besides his practise in the arcane arts, and Mistress Buddelstone provides many dancing clothes and is quite a formidable dancer herself, while Mistress Sarbreeze provides melodies to dance to. Now, before we start off talking further about the Greenleaf Dance, do any of you have any questions?"

They both bow to each of those those mentioned in turn. The Second troll does not bow as deeply however, and seems to recognize Mistlemoors name.

"Evar Mistlemoor? Heard good things about him from one of my runescribes." The voice... has more then a double echo. It seems to come from a deep well and carries quite some distence, while seeming to echo a few times. In fact, his words almost arrive before he speaks them.

Jarl Eelshivin bows and speaks repectfuly to his companion.
"Honored Sage Kish'vistoor, we were advised to not stand out. And I feel as if I should explain. The Deep speakers practice Truenaming or Thu'um, the art of the voice. As they become stronger in it, it begins to spill over into regular speech, so many of us that practice the mystic arts have a strange voice. And we thank you for the knowledge you will share with us." He bows agian.

The Kingdom of Ghares

The Deep Trolls
Evenar gives a polite bow back. "Thank you." Meanwhile, the others present seem ill at ease with the sound affect from the Deep Trolls voice, with only Evenar interested in its effects. To the others, the explanation given basically translates to "Deep Trolls use weird Deep Troll Magic".

In any case, Sir Marut Haffelstan soon begins to explain about the Greenleaf Dance. It is a custom observed in all the Kingdom, but it is especially prevalent in the region where the Ruchelbach Castle is located in. Where other regions may only host a simple dance in the evening after work, here it is a festival recognised from the lower to the upper classes, with usually festivities in the streets and in the evening a ball at the Castle and many dance locations throughout the towns. The ball is a social gathering place for those of noble blood and is often times used to get closer to another based on earlier dealings.

Evenar Mistlemoore explains that in their history, they have a tale of the Greenleaf Dance's origin, where one time, the winter lasted long in this region, months longer than usual. Supplies were running low, nature had yet to awaken and snow covered the roads, preventing new supplies from being brought in. Prayer did not help, though the people would not give up their spirit. Trying to summon forth spring, they were at one time desperate enough to try anything, and when a child started to dance, to bring forth spring, to show just how much she wanted to, said child's spirit lit up those of the others and they started to dance as well.
It is said that a spirit of nature, saw the group as it moved through the forest, showing their livelihood. It had been slumbering, but it was moved by their dance, their motions and their will, so it awakened and the first green leaves would arise as the group danced under the branches over which the spirit guarded. And with that first awakening, so did the remainder of the forest start to awaken, reminding Spring that she had to visit them as well, and soon, the weather turned warmer and new plants could grow up again to provide their bounty. Ever since, the people dance the Greanleaf Dance to celebrate that awakening of the spirit.

Following Mistlemoore's explanation is Mistress Buddelstone's explanation that during the Greanleaf Dance, it is expected that those attending the ball and those participating in the festivities, dress lively. Green is a good colour, as well as other spring colours. From yellow to the light green of just sprouting leaves, to warm darker greens. These can be combined with light blue and white colours, as well as other flower colours. Usually there will be some element of green still present in the clothing, even if it is only the symbolic stem of a flower-coloured garment. If the Deep Trolls do not have such clothing, she will be ready to make some clothes for them.

Misttress Sarbreeze explains that while the festivities may state Greenleaf Dance, that this does not mean you have to dance, just that almost everybody will do so, assuming their bodies allow it. She plays a few common Greenleaf Melodies and Master Haffelstan and Mistress Buddelstone give an example of one of the common dances between two dancers. She also explains that there are dances where people switch partners, a dance where you dance with the same partner, but dance the same thing together with a group, and a group dance. She shows a common dance for each type, involving herself, Master Haffelstan and Master Mistlemoore.
If the Deep Trolls are willing, she and the others will teach them some dancing, but only if they really want it. They say that dancing while you do really want to do it or try it should not be done, as that will be noticed and be considered rude. She also warns that if the Deep Trolls are to dance, they only do so with people they have met before, like these four, and whom seem willing to dance along. If not sure, it does not hurt to ask. She explains that the reason for this warning is because of them being, well, Deep Trolls, and while those attending the Ball at the Castle will be informed, that does not mean that they are suddenly welcoming of them. Show kindness and a reason for them to doubt the stories that have been told, and that will help a long way to get in better standing with the people of Ghares.

The Deep Trolls
If the Deep Trolls have some clothes, then Mistress Buddelstone suggests they should simply use those, as that will symbolise their own more.

Sir Haffelstan indicates that there is no need to help, though Mistress Sarbreeze does inquire if they play any music instruments and if they would be interested in playing any of them at the Dance of they do play.

If there is little more than that, the session about instructions seems complete. The different instructors will stand ready for questions outside of the session as well, and during the festivities will always be ready to answer questions (unless dancing).

After the session, the Deep Trolls are free to stay until the day of the celebration or return when the Greenleaf Festivities starts. In any case, as time gets closer to the Greenleaf Dance, the people at the nearby town will be more upbeat, supplies continue to be brought to the town and the castle for the festivities and preparations are finished up before the festivities themselves, with servants active in tow with everything.
At the day of the celebrations, things start out slowly, with little in the morning. At this time, Evenar Mistlemoore will come to the Deep Trolls if they are already present, asking them some basic questions about their current situation and if everything is going alright. He will also ask about Truenaming and Thu'um, wondering more about their meaning, beyond what he has learned so far.

In the afternoon, there are some entertainment performances in the Castle while more guests start to arrive. A few poem recitals, a few musicians performing, a trio of acrobats and one small play. By the evening, things are getting crowded and after a banquet, the festivities seem to really let go, as dancing starts, lead by playful and joyful music. The different types of dances can all be seen switched around, with sometimes couples, and other times more group dances. The guests of various statuses mingle and talk, usually seeking out those they know first, before talking to others, about all kinds of things.

A lot of the people seem to avoid the Deep Trolls at first. Only a few are curious, but dare not approach. Some of the instructors try to get a few conversations going between a few of the guests and the Deep Trolls, to let the Deep Trolls get their feet wet with social interaction with others, but these are usually limited to short talks. Baroness Yvette Welter soon starts off by talking about her garden and the various roses in it and wonders how much the Deep Troll guests and others of their kind do with plants. Aristocrat Bernard Walterson asks about how the Deep Trolls manage to life underground like that. He has an interest in architecture, and talks about his family's mansion with pleasure, and wonders the state of the Deep Troll's architecture.

To the Beastmen
Well, we give it even odds. Soul-Sever feeds off ether. And you don't want to be near it when it wakes up.

To the Kingdom of Ghares

Evenar Mistlemoore chances on his old Runescribe aquantince. "Kro Mistlemoore, it is a pleasure to see you again. As for Thu'm and truenaming, they tend to be interwoven disiplines. Truenaming is the study of the True Language, one that the universe itself speaks in. It takes years of training to master, but that's why there's the Thu'um. Thu'ums, or shouts, are basic words that while they require training, do not require as much in depth study, making them a good learning tool. In fact, the tablet that I lent you, it teachs the Thu'um for SKY. If you want, we did manage to save most of our Tablets of Names."

The Deep Troll talking to Baroness Yvette Welter looks almost dirt like, and with his various green clothes, almost looks like a bush. In fact, overall, he looks mosslike. "Well, Ten'Jarl, I was a Visij-Ulux, or vine shaper in the Hulnan district. My pride and joy was a ghostbloom lantern, when it flowered, it glowed as if adorned with the pearl lanterns of Ventirla, and sparkled with all the hue of the Torsold caverns.... I managed to save several seeds, if your intrested?"

The Aristocrat Bernard Walterson ends up talking to Jarl Eelshivin. "Well, we were always a subterran folk. Course, holding up the wieght of the stone is the hardest part. But, used hollow arches, metal tubes and special types of stone to shore up the walls. And will admit that we lined the keystones with explosive charges, as last measure failsafes." He sighs. "Now, most of our cities will be lying under rubble. But, could be worse."

A small Deep Troll band approches, and says they're entertainers. They have some trumpets, clairnets, drums and saxaphones, even a guitar. The Deep Trolls have both Jazz and rock and roll, but these guys say they're a Jazz band. If they get in, their songs starts slow and sad, but builds up, so every note seems to be a celeberation of life and renewal. Fast paced and fun. These Deep Trolls seem to glow like polished obsidian, and thier eyes seem to sparkle with little points of flame.

The Deep Trolls
"That is certainly interesting, thank you for explaining further. But if I may ask for another explanation, what does the Thu'um SKY do?" Evenar Mistlemoore asks, after which he continues to talk about magic and Truenaming for the evening with the Deep Troll. He invites two other colleagues in the arcane arts to talk with the Deep Troll as well, although one is off very quickly, while the other furrows his moustache as he asks: "Why does my magic feel so.. different in your presence?"

Meanwhile, Baroness Yvette Welter was happily chatting away with the bushy Deep Troll, telling him of her gardens and eagerly listening to what he has to say. She introduces him to some other lovers of gardening, though these do not stay as long as her, as they are more intimidated by the appearance. Still, they are interested for the short time they talk and it is clear that if what he says about the ghostbloom lantern is true, it would gain the Deep Trolls prestige if one were to bloom here. The baroness is indeed interested in the seeds.

Aristocrat Bernard Walterson looks oddly at Jarl Eelshivin. "Those are.. very severe measures. Were you not afraid that someone would find out before you could flee and use them?" The continued discussion is more neutral, as it becomes obvious that while Bernard Walterson is interested in architecture, his knowledge is limited to aboveground building and his technological skill does not really allow him to talk along with the Jarl. While he introduces he few others, including stonemasons, few stick around long with the Jarl. One does ask why the Deep Trolls look so much like stone.

The music of the Deep Trolls does get a reaction. But not a positive one. At first, everybody falls silent, interested to see what this is all about, but the jazz music does not seem to match with the music played before, which was far simpler. Unused to this music genre, the Ghares people do not seem to like it. A few do, but they do not dare dance to it as nobody else does. Soon enough, the crowd seems to disperse in the vicinity of the Deep Troll performance until some of the Ghares performers suggest they take over again.

The Runescribe talks at length, seeming to enjoy the conversation. When asked what it does, he smiles. "It can do what you ask the sky to do. If it listens and agrees anyway." He apologizes that it's the best he can explain it, as he's no master at it. "As for the magical disruption.... It's a natural defensive mutation from our origins underground, during the days of wild magic. It's meant to dilute the nearby effects of magic, and it's also meant to be a back off message to some underground predators, that use magic natural and extensively. Of course, they're beasts, and scared off by it."

The Mosshide Deep Troll talking about the gardening, is listening attentively. When he notices the Jazz band on stage, he mutters, "Malgum punks..." Turning his attention back to the Baroness, he continues to talk plant. "Well, as the other Messirn say, If you meet one who wants to plant, give them the seeds. Were would you like me to send them?"

"Tev'Jarl Walterson, anyone that wants can use all the fire they want to try and blow the foundation fail safes. As they're Alkilli metal based, they'd need to use water to set 'em off." When they mention the resemblance to stone, he winces slightly. "Well, how familliar are you with Primal Trolls and Deepstone Elementals? Our Ancestors were the Primal Trolls, natures hunger made flesh, and living radioactive stone. Like most of the giant races, we have a lot of elemental in our blood, ours is just a bit more noticeable then most."

Aristrocrat Bernard Walterson suggests, while the other guest admits to know little of Primal Trolls or Deepstone Elementals. He does seem interested by the mention of elemental and giant races, but seems a bit taken aback by the description of the Primal Trolls. "What is radioactive stone?" He adds to his questions.

After the Deep Troll band took off, the familiar music soon starts up again and not long after, dancing resumes, though there are now significantly fewer people dancing.

Start of turn 4

The Northern Hordes

The North is in chaos. The lands of the Deep Trolls are shattered, refugees desperately fleeing for their lives. The Ogres continue their relentless assault against the elves, who are starting to loose ground. The Beastmen have started their attack against the Knights of Ether. The Orcish horde has changed their target, and is now moving towards the Conclave and leaving the Trolls alone, at least for now.

The Beastmen horde has finally gathered, and they are now attacking the Knights. At noon, the massive horde appeared from the woods. The Beastmen are moving towards the capital of the Knights, Allarit, with incredible speed. The Knights have ordered their men to solidate their positions near the city, while the Beastmen are killing, and ultimately eating, every living thing on the outskirts of the nation.

The joint force consisting of the armies of the Knights, the Dwarves, the Melvaunian Kingdoms and a detachment from the Kingdom of Ghares and the Magus Council are now trying to keep order near the city and prevent a mass panic. For now, only small battles have been fought between the two forces, as it seems the Beastmen are unsure should they keep moving south, or would east be a better direction.

In the contested lands of the Deep Trolls things are as chaotic as they have been for a long time now. Some of the Orcs are still left, making sure as little trolls will leave the area as possible. Some have noticed that the amount of bodies in the area is clearly smaller than what the losses for the armies have been.

The bulk of the Orcish forces is now attacking the Conclave. The Orcish forces have surrounded the Conclave island, and are now trying to move inwards. The numbers of the Orcish horde seem to be about twice the numbers of the Conclave defenders, so the Orcs are likely to win the war. But this time the Orcs have countered at least some resistance, and it's not a bloodbath like the one seen in the Orcish war against the Deep Trolls.

Other news:

The Demethian Empire and the Kingdom of Ghares have entered a trade pact.

The Xian Je traders have finished their HQ and are now offering loans to all interested parties.

The reconquest of Mare del Sarat has stalled. The Shogunate has fortified the island it has managed to conquer, but they are not eager to move forward. The demons haven't launched a counterattack, for whatever reason.

The Dragon King is slowly starting to intervene with outside world, seemingly free from whatever it was preventing him to do so in the past.

The Flight

Someone had been tampering with the explosives. It might seem then that they have no other choice but to risk the Deep Reachs of Yul'shoth-Bkur, the Deepstone depths. Luckily, they're resistent to the magical radiation that would be common at that depth. But other things are as well. Just hope they don't wake anything up.

To the Conclave and magus counsil
We're working on something to help neutrilze the orcs. We'll send the extact details later.

To the Kingdom of Ghares, the Demethian Empire, the Meulvian Kingdoms and the The Xian Je traders
We've finished our medical and Aviation grade steel research, and would be intrested in selling the details.

Orcs of a Fallen Tree (Open announcement)
We attempted to deal honestly with the greenskins. You slaughter our people to steal our goods twice. Now you speak of tricks? You call us trolls?
We are not trolls, you stupid brutish creatures. There will be no surrender here, there will be no easy victories. You may end the Conclave, but you will end yourselves in the process.

Deep Trolls, Magus Council
Any help against the horde would be appreciated. It has become irrefutably known that they represent a clear and present threat to all universally.

Xian Je traders
We require a large crisis loan.
OOC: Looking to loan 10 econ. what would be the likely payment plan/interest?

Jotun of Ur
My lord, the Conclave are in great need. Surely now you see the orcs are a danger to all near them. We will do whatever it takes to secure your help against the orcs

Beastmen PM
The Beastmen succeed in the south, and that is good. However, as much as it irks me to say it, the Conclave is in need. I assume our agreement regarding the orcs still stands? With their troops occupied with the Conclave you will be able to take their lands unopposed.

The Black Court PM
We understand you are in need of bodies. This is something the Conclave currently has in large numbers. We could also offer you sanctuary to conduct your experiments in our lands, although this course would currently be inadvisable.
We are fighting for our survival, we need all the help we can get. What aid could you provide us with in exchange for all the bodies produced by this war?

The Kingdom of Ghares

We Must Reinforce!

A farmer is happily toiling away on his farmground. Peace seems to have returned to his lands. It was but a year ago that a Necromancer plagued these lands, but with the aid of amongst other the Ghares Kingdom, he was defeated. Sticking around longer to provide aid in rebuilding, the farmer was still happy that things had returned to normal and he could focus on his crops. For a moment, he took a break, leaning on his rake for a moment as he stared up at the clouded sky.

Squinting his eyes for a moment, he thought he saw something funny up there. He knew the Demethian Empire had these kind of skyships, and he had been impressed when he had seen one as big as a small shed move a few acres above the ground. He wondered if it would be one of those.. and with that, the sky vessel burst through the clouds, revealing a huge machinery dwarfing the sight of the earlier skyship the farmer had seen. Armed and transporting military men, the huge sky vessel was decorated with the Ghares Kingdom's symbol. Soaring through the skies, the shadow rolled over the farmer as he stood there dumbfounded upon this marvellous piece of technology crafted by the Roost for the Kingdom of Ghares. The Angelus was on route.

Days later, the farmer noticed that it was not just one of the pair of the Ghares' skyships that was on route. The infantry of the Ghares army was marching over the roads, towards their destination. For a moment, the farmer was frightened, hoping that it was not another Necromancer. But he recalled the words of his neighbour. Were the Knights of Ether not being attacked by Beastman?

Message to the Knights of Ether
Reinforcements from the Ghares Kingdom are on route!
We Must Construct!
It is no secret that the Kingdom of Ghares is trying to make use of the situation it currently in. With a new influx of traders and an official trade agreement with the Demethian Empire, it is trying to draw more trade towards its nation and begins an attempt to style itself as the link between sea and land. As the Mercantalis Imperia, Seaward Shogunate and Salm Republic have to go pass through their land to trade with the Demethian Empire and the land behind it, as well as vica versa, the Kingdom of Ghares tries to leverage this situation into improved trade routes.

Rumours say that to establish this, the Kingdom is spending many a gold coin on improving their infrastructure, from roads to even skyship ports, meant for the Demethian trade skyships. Their harbours are being expanded and it seems that crossing the Kingdom becomes easier and more comfortable by the day.

Message to the Seaward Shogunate and its allies in the war effort
We are currently waiting for the next step in the war effort against the vile demons. As we have obtained the spell to detect invisible demons, we are wondering where the delay is stemming from.
Message to the Deep Trolls
We are certainly interested in that technology. However, our own economy and technology is not yet geared towards making effective use of such advances and therefore we must delay such a purchase. We are interested in knowing how much you are asking, though.

We also invite a group of Deep Trolls to make a journey through our Kingdom. The people are still unfamiliar with your kind and many tales still exist in regards to it, which we would like to dispel. As otherwise we fear that those tales may get a live on their own. Following this conversational topic, might we inquire as to the future plans of the Deep Trolls?

OOC: Also interested in the response of some of the questions asked at the Greenleaf Dance. Will wrap that up after the answers.
Message to the Xien Jhe Traders
We are interested in taking on a large loan to be further invested in our infrastructure and economy, so that we may make it easier for you and our other trading partners to trade.

To the Conclave and the Magus Council (PM)
We have some magical ability, and have been whipping something up special for the orcs. It's Non-lethal, but still, we think it will be devastating. Currently, the Orc's are happy. Reveling in the slaughter and mayhem. Now lets say all of a sudden they become very depressed. So depressed in fact, that they no longer see the point to living. So much, that they cannot take another step, as the depression drags them into depths deeper the the Lightness Depths of Kev-to Yuln. The vector is simple. A spiritual plague, that's designed so it only infects orcs. We welcome any and all advice.

Greenleaf Dance
Mistlemoores Group; "How it allows us to talk to the sky is simple. It's in the language it speaks. Similar to how we're managing to talk, just have to learn the others language, and new worlds open."

Baroness Yvette Welter's group; The Mosshide nods, and bows deeply before going to ask someone if they would deliver it.

Aristrocrat Bernard Walterson's group; "If they can find the caches or get to them, we deserve it. " Asked about radioactive stone, he looks sad. "Well, radioactive stone occurs in some parts of the deeper tunnels, and is dangerous to you surface dwellers. The Arcane radiation from the
stone gives those that don't have some form of protection a wasting illness. Luckily, we're immune due to our Ancestry. But I saw a surface adventuring party get in contact with the stuff once. It's not a pleasant way to go. Funny thing about it though, it's the physical counterpart to Ether."

To the Kingdom of Ghares
For you, not much. Consider it our rent for allowing us to say here for the time being. We'll also help with any construction projects.

And we'd be honored help dispel some of the myths about our kind.

As for our plans, they're simple. Step one, Launch a Curse at the orcs. Step two, after the machine guns are finished, mow the orcs down. Step three, take back our tunnels. Step four, rebuild our homeland. Step five, prepare for to fight the demonic invasion. Step six, drop enough explosives on any demonic gate so the shockwave could be felt in the Gray fields. Step seven, help restore areas that have been tainted by demonic energies.

But mostly, we're planing to finish some things, get rid of the orcs, and get our homeland back.

The Wisps of the Skies

There had always been rumours of a city on the tallest mountain peak of the Melenkurion, and plenty of reports about unknown airships moving faster and more gracefully than any other, high above the clouds.

So it was not too difficult to swallow when such ships began docking at airship ports across the realm, trading with unique crafts and arts for all sorts of metals and devices. The people crewing the ships were light and pale, though living in such conditions should have tanned any normal human. They were also small, and energetic. It was easy to make friends among the Wisps and to hear stories, more or less unbelievable, about their lifes among the clouds.

As for what brought them out of their isolation - nobody knows. Not even the Wisps themselves, it seems - when questioned, they just shrug and say: "It was time."

The Roost to Deep Trolls:

We've heard of your new steel. We might want to trade for it, in exchange for our considerable technologic skills in support of a project of your choice. Of course, our talents are best used working on something airborne.

The Roost to Sylphan Elves

To our neighbours we would like to offer a hand of friendship and an inquiry as to what your current situation is. If there is something you need, we will help as to our capabilities.

The Roost to Melvaunian Kingdoms

Xian Je traders- The Deep Trolls
We are interested in this new medical technology you are speaking of. What are you asking for it?

Demethian Empire-The Deep Trolls
We currently don't have the funds to buy any new technologies, as we have to prepare for the Orcish threat. After they have been dealt with, the situation might change.

Magus Council-The Deep Trolls (Conclave)
We advice you to give up this plan. While this plague you speak of truly targeted only Orcs, in what way are you better than them if you seek to wipe out their whole race? not all Orcs are evil.

Magus Council-Orcs of the Fallen Tree
If you are speaking the truth, this is a major threat. We will investigate the matter, and if we found any evidence try to come up with a solution.

Ogres-Orcs of the Fallen Tree
Blackrobes? Blackrobes gives us meat. You wants meat too? We ask blackrobes to give you meat.

Black Court-Orcs of the Fallen Tree
It seems you were looking for us? What do you need?

Xian Je traders-Conclave
The traders offer you the following: 10 econ for either 4,5 econ for 3 turns or 15 econ in the time span of 4 turns.

Beastmen-Conclave
We care not for land. We want meat. But our agreement stands.

Black Court-Conclave
An interesting offer. But the bodies are not the only thing we are in need of, we also need new technologies so we may use our own resources for other purposes. What else are you willing to offer us in addition to the bodies?

Jotun of Ur-Conclave
I still do not see reason for military intervention. Our ships are numerous, and our people strong. If the Orcs ever attack us, we will hold them off.

Knights of Ether-The Kingdom of Ghares
This is wonderful news! We thank you for your help. We will see how we can compensate all this after we have made it through this catastrophe. If we make it.

Seaward Shogunate-The Kingdom of Ghares
We do not wish to make the same mistake we made the last time. We want to be absolutely certain of what lies ahead. The amount of resistance terrain... all that. We will do some scouting and decide our course of action based on that information.

Xian Je traders-The Kingdom of Ghares
Very well. How large of a loan do you need? We need basic information of what kind of a loan you are seeking for so we may start discussing the payment plan.

Sylphan Elves-The Roost
Maybe time to admit that we will not be able to survive on our own has come. If you are able to offer help, of any form, we would be very grateful.

At the Greenleaf Dance, the two mages take the words of the Deep Troll and mull it over, but they are thankful of the explanation, while a servant is busy with the directions from the Mosshide Troll. The architect lover looks peculiar at his Troll conversation partner at the mention of their structural decisions, while he and his guest seem to shiver at the thought of this radioactivity.

That is appreciated. As you are probably aware, we are currently upgrading our infrastructure and help would be appreciated. However, we do have some questions. Where are you currently creating this curse, and making these machine guns, considering your lost homeland?

Xien Jhe Traders
We are looking at a large loan intended to be used on getting our economy to a higher level, but we are currently unsure of what would kind of concrete amount would be wise. Considering this is your expertise, are there perhaps any suggestions you can offer us?

The Orcs
The message sent from the orcs caused quite a stir amongst those in the kingdom dealing with communications. They had not expected contact from them at all, both from their hostile nature and their far distance. Having little to do with them, it does explain why the message seems to ask for advice instead of a declaration of war. It takes a while for the Kingdom of Ghares to give a solid reply, but a knight takes it up to give it:

"Greetings. We understand you have a problem with evil mages. They sound like necromancers, if they are interested in bodies. And if they are necromancers, they will raise these bodies as undead, the walking dead. From the mindless shambling zombies to the cunning and blood-sucking vampires, they may spread their plague of undead."

"In any case, dark magic, such as that described, should be stopped as swiftly as possible. Tracking those stealing the bodies and stopping them is the preferred means, but it is also a good idea to burn the dead so they may not rise in undeath by those foul magics or be used for evil rituals."

Aftermath of Orc Message

With the question answered, communications was politely finished. But afterwards, the Ghares folk were quite befuddled at what just happened. Especially the last comment from that Orc got even the Knight taking up the word earlier nervous. They were liked by the Orcs? Not a good prospect. But then again, neither was the news of the Black Court activities in Orc lands. They were happy they could offer some advice, but even more so that the Orc lands were far away.

The news that you are developing such weapons and such a.. curse.. close by has us worried. Would it not be better to focus on rebuilding your home somewhere safe before working on your revenge? We do not wish to be host to a war between you and your enemies in the future, to be honest.

Also, extensive cave systems? We know not of such things at the site of the camp. Did you create them or discover them? Some people are coming over now to check them, because this is news to us.

---

During the Deep Troll stay, a mixed group of Ghares people come over to the camp of the Deep Trolls. Some aristocrats, entertainers and guards, with the simple purpose of being the travelling company of the Deep Trolls who accepted the earlier invitation to take a trip through the Ghares realms.

The group would take the Deep Trolls through the four different Duchies, showing them the variety of the customs and habits through the Kingdom. They will introduce the local populace to the Deep Trolls and vica versa, allowing both sides to ask questions freely after an introductory speech, detailing how the Deep Trolls are very much unlike the tales of monsters the average commoner is used to.

The appearance of the Deep Trolls still has a large affect on the people, who consider it very extraordinary. When they hear about the truespeech the Deep Trolls use, there is very little understand and it gets rubbed off as "magic", as the people in general know very little about such arcane matters and their differences. There is already but a small number of mages, so this unknown thing people do not understand is classified under the same unknown thing people do not understand: magic.

It seems difficult to shake the notion of exotic, weird and monstrous appearance, but with the intelligence displayed by the Deep Trolls, the notion of "brutish monster" seems easy to dispel.

Start of turn 5

The Northern Hordes

The Orcs continue their attacks against the Conclave, now with the aid of the Ogre clans. If the Conclave doesn't get any help soon, this might be the end for them.

The Ogres have reduced their raids against the elves, perhaps because their presence in the Orcs-Conclave war. The elves have managed to hold off the little raids there are now thanks to foreign help.

The cloudy morning had given way to a sweltering day. As the beastmen hoard moved forward the birds and animals fled, only a rumbling like distant thunder filled the eerie silence. Among the horde itself flies and gnat still lingered, settling on exposed flesh before being shaken off. It was a miserable day, the weaker beastmen panted from the heat while their betters taunted them. Fights broke out which none moved to stop. Everyone was on edge from the stink. The odor of beastman sweat filled the air, cloying and noxious. Unwashed flesh and rotting meat were the closets any could come to describing it. The smell had attracted the flies who thought there was carrion in which to lay their eggs. Without even a breath of wind the scent lingered over the advancing hoard and drove some of the more sensitive members nearly mad.

“G’t long now cur, de boss wants a real r’port this time. None o dis ‘it stink’ spew fr’m ya!” With a wallop the ox nearly threw the dog forward. It didn’t get up. Breath heaving it plodded up and grabbed the dogman by the scruff of its neck. The beast was delirious, panting so heavily its body shook.

“Why ya mangy…” The ox too fell to the ground, its vision nearly white as it swung its heat back and forth in confusion. The same scene was repeating itself all along the hoard. One of the greater beastmen, a near mountain of chimeral flesh bellowed and they shakily regained their feet. Even in such conditions, fear kept them in line.

Far away, in a tower of stone, a crystal forsythia waved as though in a breeze. Only a few of its flowers bloomed. One of the beings standing near it waved a hand and an entire branch was suddenly covered into the five-petaled flowers of yellow-orange feldspar.

The oxman thought he was out of breath again. He slowed and tried to fill his lungs only to find he could not. He tried to scream only for the breath to be pulled out of his lungs. Not quite knowing why he looked up. The sun was not the miserably bright disk it had once been. It covered a third of the sky, bluish white and angry. He dropped his sword and tried to run, he didn’t know where but instinct commanded he do so. It stuck in the ground at an angle and began to bend. He saw black specks in the edge of his vision, the flies were popping from the heat. At last he tripped over a rock and fell, his hoof leaving a deep print. As his eyes turned white and blind he tried to rise once more only for his overturned flesh to fall from his bones. The molten glass covered his body and those of his fellows. As the phenomenon ended the air rushed back in, extinguishing the fires that had started around the edge of the giant circle.

In the distant tower the owner of the hand spoke, “A successful test.”

The rest of the Beastmen are now moving west. Whether the use of this new weapon has any part in this, is unknown. Combat between the Beastmen and the defenders of Allarit has been almost completely avoided.

Trading Boom

The Western parts of the world have recently seen a huge boost in trade, thanks to the efforts of the Kingdom of Ghares. The Demethian Empire, the Salm Republic, the Seaward Shogunate and the Kingdom of Ghares have signed a series of trading pacts, and lowered their tariffs against each other. It is clear that they all will greatly benefit from these deals, as long as their economies stay stable. The Kingdom of Ghares in particular has seen development in economical areas, and has risen to be one of the economical powerhouses of modern world.

Other news:

The Xian Je traders have announced that the interest rates of the loans they are handing out will be higher in the future due to the high demand. Current deals are unaffected by this decision.

The reason for the Dragon King's past inactivity has been revealed. Several dragon cubs have been spotted near the mountain.

The Seaward Shogunate has announced that they will continue their crusade against the demons soon. They are now gathering supplies for the effort.

Several famous adventurers have received messages telling them to travel South East to meet someone, or something. Great rewards are promised, if they can fulfill whatever mission it is that awaits them.

News of a new race, the Aeree, are spreading all over the world. [Everyone now knows about the existence of the Aeree, Exthalion's faction, IC. You don't know where they are, or who they are, but you do know they exist.]

The Kingdom of Ghares

The Melvaunian Kingdoms
Greetings,

The Kingdom of Ghares welcomes word from your fair Kingdom. We appreciate the effort spent to send a message such a long distance. However, we can already say that while we have established trade agreements with the nations in our vicinity, we can not speak for them. We can only speak for ourselves and your wish to further trade is welcomed with open arms.

However, we must admit that the distance between our Kingdoms is great and to establish a bond as close as those established with the Demethian Empire, the Salm Republic and the Seaward Shogunate is difficult, as we can reap advantages from each other due to our geographic location.

We do certainly recognise that the same geography that keeps us so far apart introduces interesting opportunities, as our nations are likely to produce different goods in all kinds, and trade would be beneficial and therefore we are glad to establish greater trade ties with the Melvaunian Kingdoms.

Our suggestion is as follows. We have both learned of the mighty example of technology, the skyship. We are currently in the progress of procuring this technology, and with this the vast distance between our nations can be more easily bridged, bringing our nations closer. It is our suggestion that if we are to establish a trade route between our Kingdoms, we can then act as middle man between your Kingdom and our own trade partners, making trade easier as we act as a hub from which trade can flourish as it does now.

We will start with land-based caravans to honour this trade route, and hopefully look towards the faster sky based means of transport in the near future. In that light, we know that the Roost lies close by to your nation. Perhaps you can use your reputation and ties with that nation to involve them in this trade route from the far northeast to the west, where we can all profit from the use of airships for transport between our regions?

The Demethian Empire
Greetings again. At an earlier time it was mentioned that the airship technology at your disposal could be up for trade. We are interested in procuring this technology, so that we may create airships of our own as well for use with the constructed skyports. How much would you ask for this technology?

The Knights of Ether
It seems like a mystical force was used to deter the assault of the Beastmen. While we will continue to lend our support in case they decide to attack still, we look forward to the time this region is safe once more. We hope their seeming departure leads to this, but we inquire as to how you feel about this current action of the Beastmen and perhaps be able to predict what is to come, as you are more experienced in dealing with their kind.

The Seaward Shogunate
We continue our support against the demon assault and we stand ready with the purchased spell against invisibility to aid in the coming battles.

The Deep Trolls
An official declaration goes out on behalf of the Kingdom of Ghares:

We wish to thank the Deep Trolls for their support to our Kingdom. From our past we have been taught they were no better than the common Troll, a savage creature of bloodthirst, but we now discard those tales to say that the Deep Trolls are intelligent and do not possess the savagery commonly excepted from a Troll.
As is known, we have granted their survivors of a bloody battle asylum in our lands and they have shown their worth to us, which is far greater than that of a common Troll. They are welcome in our lands, and we hope that other nations who have stories similar to what we used to have may reconsider them.
To show our thanks to the Deep Trolls, we are currently erecting an Academy in their honour, and we welcome the brightest minds from across the world upon the finish of its construction to this Academy, to teach and to learn from one another. It will also provide a chance for the Deep Trolls to show they are earnest, if they accept the professor seats.

As mentioned during our public declaration, with your permission we would like to erect an Academy in your honour and offer professor seats at this Academy. We hope that our groups may share in their knowledge and learn from each other.

We are very grateful for the help you have granted us. We realise that the asylum must be an idle comparison to your homes. For that, we suggest the following. Above our Kingdom is the area of Lundai. It is a rocky and untamed area, devoid of cities, with at most an occasional tribe of savage creatures. We are willing to offer our assistance to tame this land, so that you can make it your own, instead of staying kept in such quarters.

While the loss of your homeland must still be painful in your hearts, we ask that you look at this opportunity and seriously consider it. We say honestly to you, this is probably a better idea than trying to fight with a dangerous foe over caves filled with dangers themselves.

Furthermore, we also seriously and strongly ask you to consider an alternative to researching your curse. Instead, we ask that your brightest minds instead join us in our endeavour to build up the Academy, so that we can both direct our efforts to furthering and bettering ourselves instead of focusing on such provocative magic.
Or, if you wish, we could try to find a common projects to study and develop in the fields of magic an technology, to further cooperation, learning from each other and be of use to one another, though in the coming months, most of our people in both fields will be busy with the Academy plans, which we hope you will participate in.

We look forward to your answer.

PS. The ghostbloom lantern has bloomed and it is widely regarded as magnificent. The Baroness is very pleased and eagerly shows it off to the other aristocrats, enhancing the Deep Trolls' prestige amongst the Ghares courts.

The Deep Trolls

Response to the Academy proposal
We would be honored to accept professor seats, but ask that it is not done in our honor. Instead, let it be be to honor those who seek to learn and better understand the world and the others within it.

To the Kingdom of Ghares
We would be honored to accept the professor seats, and will help in any way required to build the academy.

As for leving our homeland to the orcs. We will let them stay in the caverns for now. We can wait them out. After all, we doubt they understand how most of the equipment needed to live underground works, so they'll probobly leave sooner or later.

As for the curse.... We will abandon it. We will however, send all we have completed to the Conclave, as they are currently beening slaughtered by the orcs. The Magnum had been planing something, and we'll be devoting the magic to that for now. We think you'll like it.

For our current technology plans. We're making the machine guns for use on the demons. We think that everyone would be happier with a little extra firepower against them. We're alos working with the roost on a Helicopter project. Afterwords, we'll devote what we have to the mutal projects.

And we should be mentioning a long term project the Orc's disrupted. One of the reasons we had been attempting to build our magical powers was to tap a layline to draw a constant source of ether from it. However, we freely admit, that by long term, we mean a decade or two at best before we feel we start.

And for the Academy, we will help in any way required.

Seaward Shogunate-Melvaunian Kingdoms
We will accept all the help we can get, be it men, arms or supplies.

Demethian Empire-The Kingdom of Ghares
That is correct, we are willing to sell you the secret of the airships. Especially when selling it to you we would benefit as well, as I believe you will be using the airships in trade purposes among other things. We are asking ++++ economy for the technology.

[If you buy the technology, increasing the next + econ and + military will be easier, and you will also get a fluff bonus.]

Knights of Ether-The Kingdom of Ghares
We do not know what will happen next. This is the first time we see the Beastmen to stop an attack they have launched, the first time they stop to think whether they should keep going or not. We will just have to wait and see.

Seaward Shogunate-The Kingdom of Ghares
We thank you for your patience and continued support. We will continue the attack [next EOT].

We acknowledge the wish of the Deep Trolls and dedicate the Academy we are currently constructing in the name of learning and understanding! We are happy and honoured to learn they have accepted professor seats at the Academy.
As mentioned before, we welcome the brightest minds from across the world to this venture, so that we can see this center of knowledge grow, allowing us to learn from one another and allow the next generation to profit from what we have learned.

To All Factions
A message to some of the brightest in your country are sent from the Kingdom of Ghares, welcoming the individual to visit the Academy once it is constructed and invited to give guest lectures at this site of knowledge during their stay, as well as swap out knowledge with other attendees.

The Demethian Empire, Salm Republic, Seaward Shogunate, Magus Council
Greetings, we are currently constructing an Academy to set a step towards further knowledge, especially in an international context. With this message, we offer two professor seats at the Academy. We hope that some of your intelligent people will want to teach at the Academy and share knowledge with international colleagues.

(Two seats are offered to each.)

Demethian Empire
We accept your price, and we wish to note your belief is correct. We are happy to deal with the Demethian Empire! May our cooperation provide great boons to both our sides.

Deep Trolls
You have our gratitude towards abandoning the curse and we look forward to learning what plans the Magnum has.

Weapons against the demons are always well received and we commend your research on it. While we do not know what this 'Helicopter' is, we are interested to see your results later on.

The disruption in your plans is indeed unfortunate, but the time will come to look for Ether once more.

How much professor seats will be needed for the bright people we are honoured to see at the Academy? If you can tell us what kind of tools and establishments will be need for your people, we will happily oblige and take it into account during construction.

We would be willing to enter a trade pact with your great nations. I am confident there are many things we make that you would find interesting, and vice versa. However, if it is our ships that shall form the basis of the trading, I hope that will be taken into account when the terms of the agreements are negotiated.

And yes, we already possess Aviation Grade Steel. There is no-one in these lands who would have superior airships, or indeed a superior mastery of that element than our people. Anything that you have that could be useful for those times when we need to have our boots on the ground, such as within the Sylphan Elves' lands, would be interesting however - we may be new arrivals to this world's politics, but we still possess enough to make our favour worthwhile.

Greetings once more. We have found another interested buyer for your skyship technology: The Melvaunian Kingdoms. Their lands are far to the northeast and we are currently working on a trade agreement with them. Would you be willing to sell this technology to them, and if so, what price would you ask? We can transport the blueprints of the technology to these well reputed Kingdoms and bring back the price paid for it to the Demethian Empire, if you are willing to sell the technology and the Melvaunian Kingdoms accept the price set for it.

The Roost and the Melvaunian Kingdoms
Greetings is sent to the Roost, it is a pleasure to have contact once more. We are happy to see that the Melvaunian Kingdoms have approached you for this trade route. We are curently developing skyships of our own for the trade route between our nation and your region, but until they are done, a land-based trade route would be our alternative, which would be a long and ardous trip, where we see that the Roost's skyships could provide with easier transport until then. Like both of you, we are also confident that between our regions, there is a lot of variety in trade goods, allowing for deals of interest to all parties involved.

The Melvaunian Kingdoms, we have just obtained the technology from the Demethian Empire and seeing your interest in this technology, we have sent your request to the Demethian Empire. If both parties accept the deal, we will be happy to have served as intermediaries and will ensure the technology arrives at your lands, as does the payment arrive at the Demethian Empire. For this service we charge nothing as kind gesture between our nations establishing a trade route.

We currently restrain from further technology trades, as we are busy with the construction of an Academy as well. If there are interested parties in your nations, they are welcome to come and if willing, give guest lectures.

Thank you as well, and we look forward to a future of cooperation and trade between our nations.

Orcs of the Fallen Tree
When it is visible an orc approaches in full armour, he is met by several knights with breastplates, holding up their swords and shields in the direction of this savage creature. The stance of those in the front seems to quiver somewhat, showing that the tales of the orcs have been frightful. They know of the strength displayed by these orcs, their bloodthirst and their lust for battle. And so, the behaviour that follows from the orc flies straight against their expectations.

It takes a moment for the knights to find back their composure as they process the orc's statement. The leader of the band standing in the front, the one who did not display fear, lowers his sword towards the ground, but keeps it ready in case this is some kind of trick. But admittedly, he considers the likelihood thereof to be low. Because the orcs are known for their hostility, so are they known for their lack of tricks, knowing only the brutal honesty of an attacking axe. "Greetings." He says, letting a short pause fall as he gathers his words. "Are you here for the Academy?" He asks, still having trouble believing it to be so.

The man looks quite perplexed at the orc. Quite shocked, actually. An orc, really wanting to learn? Why, oh why, had the public statement gone out to everybody? To have an orc here! The idea alone was upsetting. But the request could not be denied.

"Ah.. uhm." It took some effort to actually say it on part of the leader, as if expecting the orc to use the stone tablet to pound him on the head. With a sigh, he eventually said: "Yes. I guess you can." Supressing the desire to slap his own forehead, he turned to the men. "Stand down." Warily, they put away their swords, but not their shields, and their hand stuck close to pull out their weapons again. Turning to the orc again, he gave a short nod. "We.. we will escort you to the Academy." He said with regret in his voice. "Are you armed?" Then again, an orc would probably count as armed even without weapons.

In any case, the orc is escorted to the Academy, where the escort is wise enough to take a route where they avoid going through cities. A horsed messenger is sent forth with the warning of his arrival. And by the time the orc and his escort arrives at Forfar, the city where the Academy borders to, there is a sour looking man standing ready with three bodyguards. The Academy is in sight, a large building made out of a sturdy material and the finest architecture the Kingdom of Ghares has to offer. Which is rather medieval, with stone the main building material. It looks like something between a large mansion and a keep, with a large area of green around it, through which pathways run, allowing professors and students alike the opportunity to rest. Amidst that area, there are a few small buildings for garden keepers and storage. The official entrance to the Academy grounds is towards the city, but the escort arrives at the opposite side of the Academy grounds, as they would rather not walk an orc through Forfar. The Academy grounds is circled by a fence and the welcoming party stands outside, in front of a backdoor.

The man waiting with the bodyguards wears a robe of decent quality and if one is a bit familiar with Ghares wear, is easily identified as a mage. He sighs upon looking at the visitor. First he has had to deal with another race which the Kingdom perceived as brute savages, now another. He was elected because he had experience with such events. But he did not believe that lightning would strike twice here: Where the Deep Trolls were underground and their isolation from the world had allowed the stories to be based on falsehoods, this was not the case for the orcs, who were visible on the surface and where tales of horror from the battlefield were as recent as the current day.

"Greetings, I am Evenar Mistlemoor. I am professor at the Academy, to which you have arrived. I was told that you are here to receive tutelage? May I know your name?"

The first solution, taking the fight to them, isn't really viable. There's no way we could win them outside our forests. And second one is not going to happen, either. We will not leave our forests. From your ideas, this only leaves constructing defenses. We thank you for your ideas, and will consider implementing the last one.

Demethian Empire-The Kingdom of Ghares
This offer is intriguing. I will send some my mages to help and select the students to this academy as well as some gold to help fund the project. In exchange, the Demethians will get the 2 professor seats you offered as well as a promise that the Academy will accept students from outside Ghares as well, and it will stay this way.

Salm Republic-The Kingdom of Ghares
This is an ambitious project. Unfortunately, we do not currently have any extra funds we could divert into this project. We wish you the best of luck with the Academy project, though.

Magus Council-The Kingdom of Ghares
After a long discussion we have come to the conclusion that we will support this project, at least to some degree. We hope that this Academy will succeed, and that it will further knowledge in the whole world. We will be watching the project closely.

The Demethian Empire-The Kingdom of Ghares
While we are willing to sell the technology to our closest friends, such as you, but we don't want to sell it to strangers. So, sadly, the answer is no. We are not willing to sell the airship technology to the Melvaunian Kingdoms.

Black Court-Conclave
What are you talking about? We sent men to help you as agreed!

[My bad. I forgot them in your EOT response. They were taken into account in the fighting though, and dealt damage to the Orcs. They will be sending more men next turn.]

Ogre Clans-Conclave
You dumb or what? We Hordes keep together, and you are no horde. The Orcs are a Horde, and we keep together. They are even giving us MEAT! You no giving us meat.

[The people(?) you sent to discuss with the Ogres think they did quite well in the negotiations with the Ogres. It seems there is some other bond between the two hordes in addition to the gifts of meat]

Magus Council-Conclave
The horde has been diverted? But was it your handiwork that diverted it? We doubt that. See, if you had indeed diverted the horde by yourself, you would have no problem against the Orcs. Unless, of course, if you actually managed to convince the Beastmen to attack someone else. Which doesn't really imply anything good.

Allarit-The Orcs of the Fallen Tree
We are the capital of the Knights of Ether. Can't you savages use a map?

Beastmen-Orcs of the Fallen Tree
Don't tell us what is the right or wrong way to go, greenskin. We can decide that by ourselves.

GM-oblivion6
Make sure you put that shipment of 2 econ to the Shogunate in your EOT as well, to make sure I won't forget it.

Also, sent you your stats. Sorry for the delay.

The Kingdom of Ghares

The Demethian Empire
We thank you for the investment in the project, and look forward to seeing Demethian students attend the Academy.

We promise that the Academy will accept students from outside of the Kingdom of Ghares, and that it will stay that way.

The Salm Republic
Thank you for your well wishes, we hope the project will be a success. Your subjects are welcome as guest professors and students.

GM/Seaward Shogunate
No response from the Seaward Shogunate on the offer of professor seats?

Magus Council
We thank you and we share the hope that the Academy will succeed.

The Melvaunian Kingdoms
We have asked the Demethian Empire if they are willing to share the technology with your nation, but unfortunately this is not the case, so we can not supply blueprints of skyships to your nation. Our focus will thus lie on the trade route, which we have good hopes for.

Beginning of turn 6

The Northern Hordes

The Orcs are still attacking the Conlave, with the Ogres still on their side. The Ogres have stopped the raids against the elves almost completely, due to their involvement in the war against the Conclave and the new threat they are facing.

The Beastmen seem to be unsure where to move next. They are slowly moving towards the Conclave, raiding the Orcs on their way. The mystical weapon of the Aeree has been fired again, causing major destruction in the Orcish ranks as well as the lands around them. Allarit seems to have been spared from the horde, but it's not certain the Beastmen won't return.

The Dragon awakes

As the eggs have now hatched, the Dragon King is free to do as he pleases again. The King and his offsprings are now doing hunting trips in the area near the mountain.

The crusade continues

The Seaward Shogunate, with the help of the Kingdom of Ghares, has launched a series of attacks against the Sho'rak horde again. This time the attacks are going much better than before, and the Shogunate forces are taking only minor losses. It must be said, though, that they haven't encountered much resistance yet.

Other news:

Another group of undead has been spotted, this time near the elven and gnomish lands.

The amount of Bandits in the central areas of the world is soaring due to the increased amount of trade. For now, they have been kept in check mainly thanks to the efforts of the Kingdom of Ghares and the Melvaunian Kingdoms.

Large amounts of bodies are still disappearing from the ongoing wars. Where they are going and why is still unclear.

The Badland Khans are amassing an army. Huge amount of horsemen have been spotted in their territory, and their numbers are growing each day. It seems they are moving around the area, asking for other Khans to provide men and horses for the army.

The Jotun of Ur has given orders to increase the size of his navy even further. Soon, it will be among the largest in the world. What he needs the ship for remains a mystery.

Reports of ghosts and other such creatures are coming from the dwarven lands. All of the sightings have been on the eastern side of the nation.

i am interested in forging closer trading relations with your great nation. i believe this trade could benefit both of us.

also, even if you dont agree to the trading pact, would you be interested in selling me your airship blueprints? i can pay up to 12 ECON for the designs

Very well. What is it that you want to discuss?

Badland Khans-The Melvaunian Kingdoms
For self-defense, obviously. We have no ill intentions, we are just worried that perhaps the hordes of the North will move South one day.

Jotun of Ur-The Melvaunian Kingdoms
I'm not willing to sell you the technology I hold so dear, as I can't tell for sure you wouldn't be using it against me.

I must also turn down the idea of a trading pact, although your merchants are, of course, still welcome to my lands.

The Kingdom of Ghares

With the Beastmen threat gone from the Knights of Ether, the troops from the Kingdom of Ghares return to their homeland as well. Though their rest is short lived, as the military land forces are put in to patrol their lands, secure their trade routes and strive against banditry in the region!

The Knowledge of the Academy!

The Academy, the most advanced construction in the Kingdom of Ghares, a center of knowledge, technology and magic, now has the pleasure of announcing that the Kingdom of Ghares has offered study grants to the most intelligent and talented young people.

A symbol of cooperation, with multiple factions having worked hard to build it up, the Academy is a project full of dedication. With teachers, technological and magical supplies, it is the best place to study.
To allow the best students access to this prestigious institute, the study grants offered by the Kingdom of Ghares will be awarded in a competition where each applicant will show his or her worth by presenting a technological or magical achievement, or showing off their natural talent in either intelligence or magic. The mages of the Ghares court will be there to judge this competition.
And who knows, after your study you may be offered a position at the court as well, or become a decorated professor at the Academy!

To the Melvaunian Kingdoms

When one of the trade caravans arrives at the Melvaunian Kingdoms, a small group of Ghares people seek their way towards higher ranking officials of the Kingdoms. Taking lead in diplomatic matters is Raul Hustlebeck, a serious looking man. With black hair and dark, serious eyes to match, he is a strong built man who obviously can handle himself in a fight. The reason why he was sent along with some others is obvious. With the long travel here and bandits afoot, the Kingdom of Ghares wanted to send somebody capable of proper self-defence.

When they finally find a proper authority to speak to, he addresses the subject: "I am here for the meeting requested by the Melvaunian Kingdoms. The name is Raul Hustlebeck and I represent the interests of the Kingdom of Ghares. Please take me to those who wish to have this meeting."

"i just summoned you here to urge you to be wary of the mercantillis imperia, my intelligence agency has reason to believe that they are sponsering a large smuggling ring within my lands. they claim to have no knowledge of this, but i dont know if i believe them. if they are indeed behind the ring in my country then theres no telling where else they are active."

To the Melvaunian Kingdoms
Raul Hustlebeck follows High-King Blaine to the conference room. When he hears what the High-King has to say, he frowns. "That is a serious accusation you bring forth towards the Mercantilis Imperia, your Majesty. Do you have evidence to support this accusation?"

"As for a joint research project, I am afraid the Kingdom of Ghares has to decline such an offer at this time. Our resources are dedicated too much towards The Academy and expanding our skyship fleet at this time. Our apologies that the Kingdom can not join the Melvaunian Kingdoms in such a joint research project. We will be open to such offers at a later time, though I can not currently state when that will be. On behalf of the Kingdom, I thank you for the offer."

GM-Oblivion6 & Zweanslord
The evidence presented by the Melvaunian Kingdoms is very convincing. The likelihood that it's counterfeit is very slim.

According to the evidence a large amount of the smugglers caught during the raids against the Melvaunian underworld a while ago are being sponsored by the Mercantilis Imperia. The evidence also implies that the Mercantilis Imperia is trying to expand its influence over the Melvaunian underworld.

GM-Zweanslord, oblivion6
The Melvaunian Kingdoms has managed to imprison several of the smugglers, and most of them have already confessed their crimes.

Their law enforcers have also found several documents implying that the smugglers are, in fact, originating from the Mercantilis Imperia.

Why? One can only guess. Most people believe that they are trying to avoid tariffs etc, as the Mercantilis Imperia is known for loving nothing else than gold. Until now, noone has really been looking for any smugglers, making it an extremely profitable operation.

For the distance there are a couple of explanations. First one is, that noone knows how long exactly they have been sponsoring the smugglers, and thus they might have been working for a long time already, expanding their influence from Mercantilis Imperia all over to the East. Second, the recent increase in trade routes makes it easier for the smugglers to slip under the radar as well.

"Hm, this is serious, alright. Who else knows about this? And, apologies to being blunt, but why are you informing us?" Raul Hustlebeck looks at the High-King, awaiting the answer patiently. He could think of many reasons himself, but that gave no assurances as to what reason was really behind this meeting from the Melvaunian side and he would like to hear it from the official source. His stance is very neutral, not offensive or defensive, just trying to get to the bottom of it.

"Thank you, that was the reason I was hoping for and the information is much appreciated. The Kingdom will certainly look into these matters and hope that the situation is not as grave on our side, but who knows what might have happened in the mean time. If we do find any information concerning such smugglers, the information will be relayed to the Malvaunian Kingdoms, you can be sure of that. It is a shame the Mercantalis Imperia is willing to go to such depths." Raul Hustlebeck states and shakes his head. "They better not be behind more schemes, lest we will be forced to take more serious action against such corrupt plots."
