So, in 4th edition there are shifters, a race of half lycanthropes, that could gain animalistic aspects in something resembling a barbarian's rage in 3.5 mechanics. They were not full fledged lycans, only had a lesser hybrid form.

Anything similar in 3.5? If yes, what book were they into?

Yeah, they were introduced in the Ebberon Campaign Setting,.

Races of Eberron, p. 25.

Also, This (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=12352390) may help.

They were introduced in the Eberron Campaign Setting and covered in more detail (history + character options) in Races of Eberron.

If you don't have Ebberon stuff, the monster manual 3 has them.

I will just say that Shifters are sadly really shafted in 3.5, without shifters feat they can't shift enough times per day for it to actually matter and sadly most feats are suboptimal and with only 7 feats on your whole character life. There are simply better options.

This is why the 'shifter-est' shifters are Moonspeakers.

That is because Druids really only need 1 feat and many other druid staples like INA synergize really well with shifters. I am sure longtooth elite can be brutal with the correct Wildshape form

Actually, I was referring to the 'Moonspeaker Shifting' ability that they get, letting Item Creation feats, metamagic and something else all count as [shifter] feats.

The ECS also lhas Shifter Multiattack, which is exactly the same as vanilla Multiattack except for the pre-reqs (BAB +6, longtooth/razorclaw traits)

I think a Shifter Wizard who takes lots of Shifter feats would be hilarious. You should play that.
