Hello again, this afternoon i was arguing wiht my brother about some prices for some items for his new character. The probel was about a sword he wanted to buy. He wanted a +3 Rapier with the Keen , Frost , shock and flaming ability.(he just likes to throw dices aparenlty).
The problem is the cost, he told me that the cost is =

Rapier(20g)+Masterwork(300g)+3(18,000)+keen(2000)+ frost(2000)+flaming(2000) and shock (2000) making a total of = 26320 Gp.

I dont know it is right, but i thought the cost was the sum of all the properties, so this one would be a +7, making the cost the following

Rapier(20g)+MAsterwork(300) +the +7 modifier (98000) making a total of 98320.

Am i wrong, is he wrong or are we both wrong? (i actually never used an armor grater than a +1 with Twilight , so the difference in cost would not be enough to ever noticing it.

You are correct. Your brother is wrong. It's an easy mistake to make, and a common one-- I think my little brother did exactly the first thing when he was learning.

You are correct. Your brother is wrong.

Seconded for good measure.

Yep, because non-spellcasters can't have nice things.

You could Homebrew to have your brother's way work, but it might cause problems down the line..?

Thanks a lot for the anwer and your help. I never used a good piece or armor/werapon cause i basically use all my money on scrolls or Wondrous ItemsxD

Yep. You add all the bonuses together (and keep in mind that your sword has to be +1 before it can have anything fancy) so that a Flaming Shocking sword costs the same amount as a +3 sword.

If you want to let him save a bit of money on the weapon: my group uses a houserule that calculates the weapon bonus and the weapon special abilities separately. That would make the rapier cost

Rapier 20g+Masterwork 300g+3 bonus 18,000+ special abilities 32,000 (keen, frost, flaming and shock) for a total of = 50,320 Gp.
