Fantasy Blood Bowl Final! Sabres vs. Feets Play-By-Play

Fantasy Blood Bowl Final! Sabres vs. Feets Play-By-Play

http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/4052/1fredofastfaceoff.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/4/1fredofastfaceoff.png/)

Welcome Blood Bowl fans! As you can see, both of our cup finalists have taken the field. On the side of the Stinky Feets, is F.A.S.T. Gonzalo, the skaven standout, here to avenge the loss of his brother gutter runner S.P.D., killed earlier this season. While a win today won't ease the pain, taking the cup home will mean his death was not in vain. On the side of the Red Sabres is blitzer Fredo D. Stefani, the heart and soul of a stingy Sabres defense which has allowed only one touchdown in their last 7 matches. Who did they play before that, you ask? The Stinky Feets, who they held to one touchdown. The Feets have won the toss, and have elected to receive.

T.P.XAN scoops up the ball, he's breaking for the sideline, looking for an open receiver, F.A.S.T. is down field, but the Sabres have him covered. T.P. is scrambling...Morr E.N. Tezz is closing in for the Sabres...R.U.N. Gonzalo moves to cut him off, but too late! Morr slams into T.P.XAN, knocking the ball loose!

http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/2430/2firsttackle.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/525/2firsttackle.png/)

The ball bounces away, but R.U.N. is there to scoop it up as the Sabres players close in. The rats come in to support, but R.U.N. is trapped! He surrounded, the Sabres are forming a wall...R.U.N. dodges, steps back...here comes Fredo D. Stefani...N. Rico is giving the guard...BOOM! Fredo nails R.U.N. Gonzalo and the ball pops free!

http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/4817/3secondtackle.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/534/3secondtackle.png/)

What's this? We have another player down on the play...it's Seven Toes of the Feets. The Sabres Ogre, Joe took him out on a failed dodge just after Fredo knocked the ball loose. He's not moving, and curled in the fetal position. I don't think this one's coming back folks!

http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/4297/4seventoesfetal.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/838/4seventoesfetal.png/)

The Sabres are collapsing around the ball. The Feets can"t get in close, and it looks like S. Fab Rickas has the ball. He's making a break for the endzone! The Feets can't squeak past the Sabre defenders! Nobody is going to touch him! He's in! S. Fab scores the first touchdown of the match! 1-0 Sabres!

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/8282/5firstsabretouchdown.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/88/5firstsabretouchdown.png/)

The teams are getting ready for the next kickoff, and the Feets are set to receive. R.U.N. Gonzalo and T.P.XAN are set deep. One Who Rages and F.A.S.T. on the wings. The kick is up, and into the hands of R.U.N. breaks right, slow up for the cage to form, and moves up field. One Who Rages is holding down center field, but the Sabres are swinging to their left. Fernand, Morr, and Fat Ronald are closing in...they're going for the break! Morr drops the lead rat...Fat Ronald following up...he hits R.U.N....R.U.N. is down! the ball is loose!

http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/7703/6feetsloseball.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/525/6feetsloseball.png/)

Fernand O.E. Arrow is there for the ball, he's got it. Morr E.N. Tezz plants and sprints, heading up field. The Feets are closing in...Fernand tries to break left, open field in front of him, but the rats are too fast. He spots Morr up field, but he's covered. Fredo gives him a block, but it's not enough. Fernand is going down but wait- He's going for the pass!

http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/4875/7fernandtdpass.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/268/7fernandtdpass.png/)

Morr spots the ball as it flies in, he's covered by Mushy Joe, but the rat doesn't see the ball! Morr hauls it in! Mushy Joe is shocked! Morr drops a stiff arm and pushes Joe away! There's nobody else nearby, Morr is going to take it in! He scores! 2-0 Sabres!

http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/6710/8morrtakesitin.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/824/8morrtakesitin.png/)

Once again, the Feets line up to receive, One Who Rages and F.A.S.T. on the wings. Sabres set to kick off, and what is this, water? The rain has started falling. This is going to muck up the ball handling for both sides, but the agile rats have a distinct advantage. This could be what they needed. The ball is in the air and takes a wet bounce on the left wing of Feets territory. T.P.XAN is there to scoop it up. He steps backwards to buy some time...One Who Rages moves left into the flat, F.A.S.T. is sprinting upfield.

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/7117/9rainstartsfalling.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/221/9rainstartsfalling.png/)

The Sabres are rolling right to cut him off, and the center of the field is weak. T.P.XAN cuts to his right! Picks up a couple blockers, they"re moving upfield, but Fredo D. Stefani is there to cut them off! Fredo braces for impact...but Kower is there first! Kower levels a vicious block from behind! Fredo is down! Center field is open!

http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/3747/10feetsmovingupfield.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/838/10feetsmovingupfield.png/)

But what is this? The Sabres have spotted the gap, they're closing. Fredo D. Stefani stumbles to his feet, but star player Glart Smashrip Jr. is there to lay him back out! Fredo is down, and it doesn't appear he'll be getting back up. What a hit! T.P.XAN is moving upfield, but a line of Sabres defenders are blocking his path. He steps back...fakes right...cuts left- and POW! The Sabres defenders don't fall for the ruse as T.P. attempts to dodge away. T.P. hits the ground and the ball pops loose, right into the waiting hands of Ralgon Zarlez! He tucks it away and turns upfield, he's in the clear!

http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/6479/11sabrestackleandbreakf.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/593/11sabrestackleandbreakf.png/)

Ralgon sprints upfield...there's nobody around him...and he's in! 3-0 Sabres! What an amazing story for this guy. Injured a few weeks back with a broken neck, Ralgon's future as a blood bowl catcher was in question. Not many catchers suffer that particular injury and make it back onto the pitch, let alone getting back on in the cup final and scoring the touchdown that all but assures victory for their team. Absolutely astonishing! Ralgon appears to be relishing the rain falling down on him as the crowd roars in approval.

http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/6512/12ralgonenjoystherain.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/41/12ralgonenjoystherain.png/)

So here we are. 3-0 Sabres, the Feets lining up to receive the final kickoff. With so little time left, there is no way the Feets can get in the end zone. The kick is up...T.P.XAN has the ball...rolling right...he takes a knee! Wait- What's this on the line of scrimmage? Star player Glart Smashrip is rallying linerats around him...he's going for a block on Joe the Ogre! Joe's down! Joe's injured! What a way to take out their frustration!

http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/6752/13feetstakeoutfrustrati.png (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/41/13feetstakeoutfrustrati.png/)

The final whistle is blown! The Sabres win! The Red Sabres are taking home the Fantasy Blood Bowl Cup! After a rocky start, the Sabres tear off a series of wins to get here, and take the cup home! This. Is. Bloodbowl. Fantastic! Amazing! The Feets are leaving the field dejected as the Sabres continue to celebrate. Lou E. van Gall is breaking out the champagne...party on boys...you've earned it...

Hail To The Champions!

Game of the Week Preview

May 9, 2012

Red Sabres vs. The Fancy Lads

This week's Game of the Week is a classic showdown between two races who share a proud Blood Bowl lineage. On one side, we have the Red Sabres, of team owner Aedilred. The Sabres are a well-balanced team, built to run the ball or pass equally well, dependent on the situation at hand. Their players are armored well enough to stand up to more physically powerful opposition, and their positional skills will help them avoid needing to use valuable team re-rolls.

On the other side, we have Houlio's Fancy Lads. These orc bruisers are itching for a fight, and this team is built to punish the opposition. With an astounding 4 blitzers, and 3 powerful Black Orcs, few teams can hope to fight toe-to-toe with the Lads this early in the season. Despite the Lads carrying 2 Throwers, don't kid yourself into thinking these orcs plan to air it out. More likely expect to see a punishing running attack, led by Thrower ball handlers, and "Da Cage".

Expect to see a defensive struggle, with lots of brawling in the center of the pitch. This isn't going to be any shootout, and casualties may be a factor in the outcome. With the impressive positional players on these squads, I think the key to this game is going to be the play of the Linemen (or Lineorcs). Especially once these teams begin to take positional casualties. Whichever team gets solid play from their linemen is going to have an advantage which may be enough to tip the scales in their favor.

Even though it's going to be a bloody affair, I expect to see the Red Sabres come away with the win. I think they have enough defense to prevent "Da Cage" from marching unimpeded down the field, and that their versatility, especially the ability to air it out with Thrower Jack N. Bauer, and the human catchers, will give them an edge in the 2nd half.

Crow's Pick: Red Sabres 2 - 1 The Fancy Lads (WRONG!)

Player to Watch: Jack N. Bauer, Thrower, Red Sabres

So the big day is finally here. Well, the Fancy Lads will be engaging in their normal pregame ritual by listening to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V92OBNsQgxU) in the locker room all day. May the Lads march ever forwards to victory.

While the Fancy Lads have been spending the day chilling out listening to rap music or whatever, the Sabres have been training and pumping steroids iron all day and will be practising their throwing skills with knives, using pictures of orcs as targets.

One of the substitute linemen has also been in discussions with management about his part-time job as a gravedigger - we're wondering whether the Cretaceous Crushers would like to make use of his services... :smallwink:

Well that was a disaster! I admit I was a bit concerned about facing such a powerful blocking team so early in the season... To top it off it means I have to face the Horde next week with only ten players.

I'm glad I have an apothecary - it could have been even more of a wipeout otherwise...

You'll have 12 players. Only Morr E.N. Tezz will miss the next game. The other 2 guys have permanent injuries but will still play.

I just hope the Rivermen can get enough winnings from next week to afford to bring on a Throw-ra. My ball handling sucks.

Game of the Week Preview

KKkk-sss RAWR vs. Shadow Dancers

This week, our featured matchup is between two teams who can really move the ball on the ground. On one side, are the Dark Elf Shadow Dancers of Halyat, and on the other, KKkk-sss RAWR, the Lizardmen of 54321Boom.

The Shadow Dancers are coming off of a disappointing performance against a very plucky goblin team in Da Gabooms. A game that they should have won if not for a single late-game blunder which allowed the Gabooms to equalise. This week, the Dancers face another team with a high number of stunty players, but will have to contend with the muscle of the Lizardman Sauri as well. Look for the elves to play rough with RAWR's skinks, and force their Sauri to cage up and try to move the ball that way, taking away RAWR's quick strike ability. This strategy was mildly successful for the Hometown Heroollrrggh last week, but unlike the Heros, the Dancers have the capability of putting up points in a hurry if they need to.

RAWR won a convincing victory last week against the Heros, in a game that wasn't as close as the score indicated. No doubt hoping to continue their winning ways, I expect RAWR to use the strength of their Sauri to open up the field and try to inflict casualties, in order to press a Shadow Dancers team that is already short handed and using journeymen. This will create space as the game goes on, for their skinks to make quick strike touchdowns. One thing RAWR will need to look out for on defense is the Dark Elves ability to quickly switch from the run to the pass. If the RAWR defense falters and leaves a receiver open, a short breakaway can turn into a touchdown very quickly.

The key to this match is going to be defense. Whereas last week's Game of the Week was decided on the line of scrimmage, this game will be decided in the backfield. The team that minimizes openings in their backfield, and can gain access to the opponent's backfield will have a significant edge. In this case, I think the strength of the RAWR Sauri, along with their elusive skinks, gives them a winning advantage in this game. On top of that, RAWR is completely healthy, giving them depth that the Dancers do not have. I fully expect to see RAWR claim victory, and face Rampage! (who I expect to crush Da Gabooms) next week riding a two-game winning streak. Still, we can't forget that this Shadow Dancer team has the 3 top KO leaders on their roster. While RAWR can bash a bit too (3 casualties last week), a bad day on the pitch can easily turn the fortunes of this game.

Crow's Pick: KKkk-sss RAWR 2 - 1 Shadow Dancers (WRONG!)

Player to Watch: Apopulmec, Skink, KKkk-sss RAWR

After an unfortunate incident with a guard-wolf at the Horde's training ground, the Sabres management team have decided to protect their betting investment with some industrial espionage on the teams in those matches. The Heroes spy returned first but has yet to report, having come down with simultaneous cases of laryngitis, syphilis and leprosy. The Da Gabooms spy returned shortly afterwards in the form of a heavy red rain (with lumpy bits) after apparently tripping over a spare stash of bombs left lying around. Ever since then, Lou the Nutrition Coach has been heard complaining about the quality of the stew from the players' training ground kitchen and is muttering that the sooner the team can get a halfling chef on staff the better.

Yards Rushed, I believe. (Ninja-d by Crow)

Taking the complete team totals (only the top five players in each category are listed above) the Horde are leading comfortably on touchdowns, SPPs and YR but tail the Rivermen on kills and casualties, and several teams are ahead on KOs (the Crushers, Rampage!, the Shadow Dancers and the Fancy Lads).

The Horde has been doing great thus far, but I'm curious to see how they stack up against a physically stronger team this week. Let alone week 11, when they will face the most feared front three in the game!

Hometown Heroollrrggh vs. The Shambling Horde

The Shambling Horde, led by team owner Anecronwashere. Thus far, the most dominant team in Blood Bowl. That is what Hometown Heroollrrggh, and team owner Sennex have to look forward to this week. On one side, you have the Horde, and team werewolf GGGrrrrrrr, the league's leading scorer and rusher. Two effective blitzer wights, and 2 punishing flesh golems built to hold the line of scrimmage. On the other is a tough Nurgle team, stong, and built to utilize journeyman rotters. While this may look like an open and shut match for the Horde, I assure you the Heroes will not go down so easily.

The Horde is a running team, well suited to marking players on the wings with zombies, and attacking at the line of scrimmage with their flesh golems. This keeps the wings occupied, and punches holes in the center for werewolf GGGrrrrrrr to advance up the field. On defense, the wights and GGGrrrrrrr, along with a horde of zombies swarms the wings, leaving a few zombies back in coverage if there is threat of the pass. Meanwhile, the flesh golems beat up the line of scrimmage, and with their ability to stand firm under assault, prevent all but the most determined advance up that avenue.

If you're a student of the game, you can already see a few ways to defeat this team. The Horde's previous victories have come against The Trees, and the Red Sabres, two teams not known for their strength. Against these teams, the Horde had the capability to either command the line of scrimmage (Sabres), or overrun the wings (Trees). This Nurgle team has a line of scrimmage with the strength to rival the Horde's, and their horned prestigors have one of the most devastating blitz actions in the game. This will prevent the Horde from easily gaining control of the line of scrimmage, and neutralize their ability to hold the wings. However, the Heroes need to be aware of the Horde zombies and man-marking. The Horde has used their zombies to effectively remove player from the game in both games this season, and that trend isn't about to end.

While the Heroes certainly have the ability to stop the Horde in theory, I think things will be much more complicated in practice. This is in part due to the unreliability of their journeyman rotters, and their lack of bench depth. One or two injuries or KO's can really make the difference in this game, and the Horde has shown that they can inflict casualties. However, if the Heroes can stay healthy, and not give up any big plays, they can keep this game close. In the end though, I can't imagine the Heroes completely shutting down the best rusher in the league, and nothing we've seen of the Heroes leads me to believe they can keep up with an elite offense.

Crow's Pick: Hometown Heroollrrggh 0 - 2 The Shambling Horde (WRONG!)

Player to Watch: GGGrrrrrrr, Werewolf, The Shambling Horde

The Fancy Lads vs. Rampage!

Stinky Feets, Da Gabooms, RAWR. All victims of the Norse machine that is Rampage!, and the league's new top rusher, Sessrumnir. Facing up against Rampage!, is The Fancy Lads. A physical, in-your-face team of Orcs, who have not scored more than one touchdown in a match this season. Despite this though, they have not suffered a loss. This game of the week may very well stand as a defining match for either of these teams. Can Rampage! prove that they can stand up to a heavily-armored bashing team? Can they expect a deep playoff run if they can't? Similarly, can The Fancy Lads show that they can keep up with a high-powered offense? Or can they shut one down enough to not need to keep up?

As mentioned, the Lads have not suffered a single loss. However, their only victory thus far has been against the Red Sabres (0 wins, 3 losses). Their other two matches have been draws against Hometown Heroollrggh, and the Shadow Dancers. The match against the Heroes was impressive. In a rare spectacle which found the orcs overmatched in strength and blitzing ability, the team held together for the tie. The Shadow Dancers match was less impressive though. In a game which the Lads should have won, by all accounts, the orcs struggled to maintain possession, and failed to capitalize on mistakes by the Dark Elves. This inconsistency is what will sabotage the Lads this game, if anything. While the Lads don't have anyone on the roster who really stands out aside from blocking blitzer orc George, they do have an effective "Thrower" in W. Tell, who is poised to step up to the next level with another good game. After losing Black Orc Michelle last week, it will be interesting to see how replacement Leslie absorbs the playbook by game time.

Rampage! is undefeated, and one of only two teams in the league to have won every game thus far. It is worth noting however, that those wins have occurred over Stinky Feets, and Da Gabooms, two teams not known for their strength. Their most telling victory has come over RAWR, on whom they inflicted 7 casualties. It is this victory that shows me that Rampage! may be able to stand up to the powerful Lads. Rampage! thrower Sessrumnir has been brilliant this season, and currently leads the league in rushing and shares the lead in touchdowns. The Lads can't afford to focus only on him however, as newly signed Niflheimr gives Rampage! a second option out of the backfield, and assigning a single lineorc to cover him could result in an easy touchdown or worse (Niflheimr inflicted 2 casualties against RAWR).

This match is going to be decided by one-on-one blocks. If the Lads allow themselves to get spread out, and play man to man, the skill of the norse blockers will make them pay. But if the Lad black orcs can get one on one, and allow lineorcs and blitzers to double team the remaining norse players, the Lads' strength, combined with the low armor value of Rampage can make for a baaaaad day for the norse. I don't see the Lads being able to stick to this gameplan with any consistency though, and I am picking Rampage! to continue their winning streak, lead by team thrower Sessrumnir, who is poised for another good rushing game.

(Of course, now that I've said that, Rampage! will lose, and Sessrumnir will be killed. But I'm not changing my pick!)

Crow's Pick: The Fancy Lads 0 - 1 Rampage! (Right!)(..and the score!)

Player to Watch: Sessrumnir, Thrower, Rampage!

Red Sabres vs. The Trees

In the highly-competitive Division A, The Trees kept hopes alive last week, with an impressive victory over Stinky Feets. With that divisional win, the Trees have shown that they can compete, and hope to do so again by claiming another win this week. Their opponents are the Red Sabres, still winless, and desperate to make something happen. This week is must-win for the Sabres. Anything less, and they will be hard pressed to pull out enough wins by the end of the season to qualify for the playoffs.

The Sabres are abysmal on offense. In four games thus far, the team has only found the end zone one time, against a depleted Cretaceous Crushers team. On defense, the Sabres have not fared much better, and are averaging 2 points against per match. This against traditionally ground-and-pound style offenses, is not a good number. Facing their first speed oriented offense of the season, the Sabres need to use their superior strength on the wings to try and shut down the weak wood elf catchers of The Trees. Unfortunately for the Sabres, the wood elves play one of the best dodging games in Blood Bowl, and will do everything they can to free their catchers.

Like the Sabres, The Trees have faced primarily ground-and-pound teams thus far this season, and have had little success. Faced with superior strength, the wood elves have difficulty keeping their players off the pitch, but aside from the wings, this shouldn't be a problem for The Trees this match. Look for the Trees to try and protect the ball long enough to get multiple catchers loose in the Sabre backfield, all the while keeping up pressure with the threat of a running play. Wood elf thrower Arms has shown he can deliver the ball on target, and won't hesitate to do so if an opening presents itself.

The Sabres are going to have a tough time stopping The Trees on defense. Keeping the wood elf catchers covered will have the unwanted side effect of weakening their run defense until the elves advance the ball past the line of scrimmage, after which the defense will tighten up somewhat. It is this transitional advance of the ball that the Sabres need to look out for. Close on the ball carrier too soon, and the elves will loose a pass for a sure touchdown. Wait too long, and one well-executed dodge can see the elves walk it in for a score. I think this is going to be too much for the Sabres to handle. With a defense that has had difficulty stopping comparitively one-dimensional offenses, I think the Wood Elves are going to shred them. However, I believe the Sabre offense will be able to hold onto the ball and control the pace of the game when they have possession, which will keep The Trees offense from running completely wild. Given the weaker nature of the elves, I am even expecting to see a Sabres touchdown, along with a few casualties this game. Still, it will not be enough. The Trees are going to take this one home, and put the Sabres in an even worse position to face the Feets next week.

Crow's Pick: Red Sabres 1 - 2 The Trees (WRONG!)

Player to Watch: Arms, Thrower, The Trees

The Sabreur: Red Sabres Mid-Season report

After a disastrous start to the season which saw them fall to the rock bottom of the league, Blood Bowl laughing-stock the Red Sabres have finally started to find the end-zone and string some results together. We went behind the scenes for an exclusive interview with team owner, head coach, and part-time janitor at City Hall, Aedilred, about their season so far:

TS: Nice office.
A: Thanks. It used to be the broom cupboard but we had to rent out the original office space to cover our gambling debts. It's not just the office we had to cut costs on, either. The team weren't happy about losing the cheerleader, and I don't drink out of a decapitated Saurus skull for fun, you know. We had to auction off my “world's best plutocrat” mug to cover the bills. Turns out people will pay a fortune for a decorative mug, but Saurus bones are a dime a dozen for some reason right now.

TS: What do you think's gone wrong this season?
A: Oh, everything. It all started with that curse the league manager put on us in our opener. We took some casualties and then got rinsed by the Horde. We lost Jack early and couldn't replace him, and wasted our money on gambling trying to recover our losses. And for the first few games the team couldn't string a passage of play together without tripping over their own feet, which didn't help.

TS: “Jack” - I guess that's Jack N. Bauer, your team's original Thrower, who's now playing for the Horde?
A: Yeah, I don't want to talk about him. But we've got Fernand in, and he's done alright, he can handle himself a bit better, and the results have started to turn round.

TS: Yes, that's two weeks without loss now.
A: That's right. For a couple of weeks we were scrambling round, having to come at teams from behind and try to catch them with their trousers down. But now against sides with weaker blockers we're on more of an even footing and the boys can finally play proper Blood Bowl.

TS: Any players you want to mention particularly?
A: Well, our Blitzers have been great. They've been nailing players since day one and that's all that's kept us afloat really. It'd be nice if Ronald could do a bit more permanent damage at times, but really I'm just glad he's putting them off the pitch. And then there's Helmut, Zara and Zug, of course. I think they've made a real difference. It's always good for our boys to play alongside real pros and get some experience.

TS: That's great; it's been nice talking to you.
A: Sure, sure. Hey, you couldn't spot me ten thousand bucks, could you? I'll pay you back in a couple of weeks, no problem...

Overall grading:

Offence: 4/10. Things have finally picked up, but the Sabres have still only run in five touchdowns, which at this stage in the season is poor, giving an average of under one per game. They've also rushed fewer yards than almost any other team in the league.

Defence: 3/10. Although the team have stopped their losing streak for now, they're yet to keep a clean sheet. They can't afford to keep conceding careless touchdowns.

Casualties: 7/10. All things considered, given the team is one of the least muscular around, they've punched above their weight in the physical department.

Room for improvement: The team's running game is improving, but its passing game could be better given the skilled players the team can field. Against more powerful teams this could make the difference between victory and defeat and is a definite area for attention.

Aedilred was kind enough to put together a table for team totals. I've reposted it here, and also below the main standings and league leaders. Should be useful for those report cards!

Since it's mid-season and people will (hopefully) be doing some reports, they might find this information interesting - it's the collated totals for every leader category arranged by team.

The Fancy Lads Mid-Season Action Report

So, the Lads had a fairly strong start, kicking off the ongoing curse of Crow's predictions (although mitigated by Rampage!, which is a continuing affront to both gods and men) by making life miserable for the Sabres. However, there was a dry-spell afterwards of continuing draws and even a defeat afterwards. Now though, revitalized by wins against the Da Gabooms and RAWR, the Lads are ready to make a much more sophisticated showing in the latter half of the season.

The Breakdown
Offense 3/10: This is definitely the Lads weakest area in the game. Even though the team is composed of the some of the roughest-and-toughest the league has to offer, they tend to be slow and clumsy when it comes to ball-handling it seems. Hopefully this will be mitigated as the players accrue more and more skills or stat-ups.

Defense 9/10: What the Lads lose on Offense is heavily mitigated by their stellar defense. Even in their only loss so far this season against Rampage!, the opposing team only managed to bring in a single point. In fact, the Lads arguably have the best defense the League has to offer. Despite this, the Lads defense still isn't enough to make up for their offensive shortcomings.

Casualties 8/10: The Lads have had a good run so far this season in knocking around other teams, holding second in the League for kills, tied for third on Casualties, and tied for second on KOs. Additionally, now that the Lads are beginning to gain steam from SPPs, I expect that this trend will continue to increase.

Room for Improvement: The Fancy Lads definitely are one of the stronger teams in the League right now. However, they have had a run against a lot of the poorer performing teams so far, so their success in the second half of the season is largely up in the air. Hopefully, getting skills and level ups on many of the players will begin to help the team catch, especially since the SPPs are pretty well distributed throughout the team.

All in all, I would say the Fancy Lads are ready to continue marching through the remainder of the season like the steel wall they are.

If the Season Ended Today

With only 3 games left to go, it's time to start thinking about the post season. With that in mind, let's take a look at what the playoff matchups would be if the season ended today:

Match 1

KKkk-sss RAWR vs. Styx Rivermen

We'll actually be getting to see this match next week! In their previous match against a lizardman team, the Rivermen were beaten soundly, though they did inflict some good casualties. However this isn't the same Rivermen as we saw in week 1. This one goes to the Rivermen.

Match 2

The Trees vs. Rampage!

We just got to see this one, and as much as I hate to count out Rampage, I don't see them being rescued by late game heroics in a second one. Especially since post-season games go into extra-time sudden death. In that situation, it's the Trees all the way. I'm giving it to them.

Match 3

Cretaceous Crushers vs. Stinky Feets

This match pits a high-powered skaven offense against a physically stronger lizardman team. The Feets crushed the last lizardman team they faced, but the Crushers are better. Still, I can't see ReAngelo overcoming everything the Feets have and getting the Crushers a win here. Feets take it.

Match 4

Red Sabres vs. The Fancy Lads

This would be a poetic rematch indeed. Since their first meeting in week 1, both teams have improved, but I think the Lads are even better than that. Once again, the Lads would take this one, and put the Sabres' cinderella run to an end.

But it isn't over yet!

With 3 games left, there is still plenty of movement in the standings that can happen. So far, only 5 teams have clinched playoff spots, meaning 3 spots are up for grabs. Look out Sabres, RAWR, and Trees! Other teams have their eyes on those spots!

Some of you may be asking yourselves,

''I wonder who will win this week's game of the week between Da Gabooms, and The Trees?''

Well I am here to tell you, The Trees are going to obliterate Da Gabooms. Da Gabooms are not going to be able to keep possession against the elf Wardancers, and the elven throwing game is way more than Da Gabooms will be able to stop.

However, Da Gabooms will have a marked advantage on the line of scrimmage with their two trolls, and the ol´ball and chain. If they can get lucky and take The Trees treeman out, things can get ugly for the elves fast. Da Gabooms' best shot is to work the middle of the field, under the troll umbrella, and keep possession of the ball away from the pass game of the elves. If the elves get first possession, and quick score can set up a slow drive to close the half with a touchdown, leaving them with the ball for hopefully the entire 2nd half. Of course scoring at the last second for the win.

The Trees need to score, and score quickly, which they will do. Defense is where they will seal this game. If they can stick to the swarming defense they have been playing recently, they can overwhelm the trolls with waves of elf meat, halting the goblin progress, and hopefully getting enough daisy-eaters in to take a shot at the ball carrier.

The Trees' gameplan will be much easier to pull off, and I'm saying they will.

Crow's Pick: Da Gabooms 0 - 3 The Trees (RIGHT!)
