Hey so i'm building a level 10 Human sorcerer. Feats that I've taken are Maximize spell, enlarge spell, quicken spell, craft wondrous item, and Arcane thesis.

What I want help with is choosing spells. My goal is to become a lich, so spells that can be used for that purpose, namely protecting my phylactery are needed, but also I want to be able to dish out damage. My companions are a level 7 cleric and a level 2 fighter. The fighter is just there to eventually level up and be a tank, if he survives, the cleric is mostly to keep me alive until I have achieved lichdom, then he just helps me do evil.

What spells do you recommend for this sort of thing? I know that I need to level up at least 1 level before I can become a lich, so if you can, levels for a 10th level sorcerer and spells to take on the next level up.

Thanks so much!

Nystul's Magic Aura is good for keeping people realizing what your phylactery is if they happen upon. Probably best used as a scroll though. Picking up the Magic Domain with Arcane Disciple will give you the spell, along with

As for Sorc 10, I'd suggest getting into a PrC. Anything is fine, as long you get full casting out of it.

If you have Sandstorm available, I'd say take a look at Walker of the Wastes. It gives a way of becoming a better version of Lich as the final ability called the Dry Lich. Which has Unholy Toughness, (Cha to HP per HD). Plus, it's cool and has cool flavor.

My advice is not to spend any spells known on phylactery protection spells. Instead learn spells that you will cast regularly, (usually combat) and then buy phylactery protection spells in a runestave to cast/ permanency during your downtime.

Basically this. Where your known spells are limited, the ability to buy spells from other sources is not.

That said any of the glyphs are good for both protecting where ever you are now, and protecting your phylactery. I also believe you can set a teleport spell up to react under certain conditions (like your phylactery having only 10 hp left for example) like you would set a trap. A Plane shifting phylactery will pretty much always work so long as you have a series of safe points for it to go

Do you have a familiar or have you given it up for the metamagic specialist acf? If not, how are you using Quicken, unless you take Rapid Metamagic from Complete Mage?

Indeed. Take rapid metamagic, even the ACF is not worth it past level 9. I'd drop enlerge spell (and also substitute empower for maximize)

So i did forgo a familiar for metamagic specialist, and I have empower spell, not enlarge. that was my mistake.

Feats i have:
Maximize spell
Empower spell
Craft wondrous item
Quicken Spell
Arcane Thesis (cone of cold)

And i like the idea of knowing spells for combat and not protection, and im not allowed to use alternative planes for this campaign.

I planned on using quicken spell for some spells that help me out, and then using a damage spell of sorts afterwards.

Some examples are:
mage armor, shield, fly, wind wall, greater invisibility, grease (i love grease), and true strike. True strike especially because a +20 on attack rolls with a sorcerer really can help with a maximized, empowered and arcane thesis'd cone of cold (almost guarantee hit i'd say, with about 108 damage output if ive done the math correct)

Oh and i have the robe of the arch magi as like my armor sorta thing
Phylactery idea was adamantine dagger, so it would be much harder to physically destroy
