The morning has been cold in the dungeons beneath the city watch's headquarters. A new batch of prisoners are being brought into the cells. A few go here and there. Finally, three more enter your cell bringing the total to six. This cell is already cramped with little amenities beyond some old straw to sleep on and a bucket of water. You look at each other sizing up each member who you will be living closely with for a while longer.

Your cell is the last in a long line of cell. The hallway ends at your cell; there are about 10 other cells, some empty, leading towards your cell. You hear the iron gate slam down the hallway knowing that you are locked in here once again. You hope today they don't forget to bring the slop.

The most prominent thing within in the cell are large letters carved into the stone wall that say, "Welcome to Hell."

Ort carefully inspects the confines of his new home. Clearly the largest of the inmates, he feels lucky not to be afraid of small spaces. As he makes his way to the dryest corner and takes a seat agaisnt the wall he greets the others with a deep resonating voice that echoes through the dungeon.

"Lucky you. Cant quite remember how long its been for me or really how much longer Ive got. Dont much care one way or the other these days. I did what I did and now Im payin for it. If I have to rot in a cell the rest of my days, then so be it I guess. You seem awful friendly to be down here though. What brings you to these .... luxurious accomodations?

Just trying to make an honest coin. Some "nobles" just can't stand to lose, and I'm a nobody in these parts. The guards certainly didn't believe I wasn't cheating. So, I ended up here. It's happened before, I'm usually out in a few days, tops.

The small bundle of rags and limbs in the corner of the rooms raises its head, filthy red hair a tangled mess, face smeared with mud. He stares at the newcomers with a pair of striking green eyes and snorts softly.

"More and more of you in here, is it? Stuffed in here like cattle for the slaughter, eh?" He mutters, his voice raspy. "In answer to your question, cousin, merchants don't like it when I try to spread Mother's love on their property. Heathens." He states, louder and directed to the elf.

At this, a large, sleek black rat's head pokes up from inside the tangle of limbs and cloth, nose twitching in interest, and looks around the room with glassy black eyes, soft pink paws resting on the skinny half-elf's arms. Timmaeus gives a small smile and starts to stroke the rat's head just behind the ears.

From within a shadow on one side of the room a shape begins to stir, a balding human covered in dirt half steps and half rolls out into the light. "Blimey, do you all have to be so loud? By the Rogue.." He sits up and begins to cradle his head, feeling the effects of the previous night.

Jadzik, not really caring to talk, just picks an open spot. Tired, sore, and a bit on edge, he sits in a meditative position with the wall to his back. He begins to collect his thoughts and calm his nerves.

What fresh hell have I gotten myself into now? I know from time to time that River's Fork will sell off inmates for term on indentured labor on the Waterdeep docks, but that’s typically only when they need to make room or raise funds. This doesn't make sense. With his nearly eidetic memory* he begins to recall the last few days in hopes of noticing something he missed. Looking to answer the questions of what he's doing here, how long he'll be here, and how he can get away.

*OOC Note:
Eidetic Memory - The Autohypnosis (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/skills/autohypnosis.htm)class skill allows Jadzik to have perfect memorization and recall with a DC 15 check. Since he already has a bonus of +5, he can use this at will by taking a 10; unless some circumstantial penalty applies, in which case he would have to roll it. Distractions that require his concentration, such as combat would also prevent him from utilizing the skill, but whenever he is in new surroundings or on his guard, he would definitely be mapping his surrounding in his head. Noting who was where and any possible paths of escape.

For example, even if his head was bagged as they led him to the cell, he would have noted how many steps he was taking at each turn and noted how many different voices and where on the path they were.

Once the commotion of the new inmates' arrival has setted down, and the guards are gone, a short human appears walking down the hallway, humbling a rythmless melody and wearing only a ragged thong and half a ton of dirt on him.

He stops before the last cell door ignoring the gazes of the other inmates, opens it with what seems to be a bone, enters and closes after him.
"Ahh I needed that dump, hope the guard enjoys it." sais to nobody.

The dirty half-naked young man moves to the spot were a guy were sleeping under an old straw blanket, lifts the blanket and exposes everyone a dummy made with his clothes. He starts to undo the ball he had made with his pants that was the dummy head when he notices the newcomers.

"... Ort? is that you?" He stares at the half-orc snoring below the letters. Seeing he is not responding he throws a shoe to his face.

Once the half-orc wakes up and shows his size the small man strats laughting "HAHA! It's you! What are you doing here? I thought that by now you would be a barbarian leader with your father."

After a few moments, you hear the thud of boots and a troop of guards come down the hallway. They are escorting a small thin women. The guards exchange glances as they near the empty cell juxtaposed to the party. "It's a girl right? Can't be that old...the warden would be mad if we stuck her with the men. Throw her this empty one for now." The three guards open the cell next to yours and toss in the small scared girl before slamming the door shut. Ort sleeps heavily. The commotion of cell doors opening and closing has become common place to him. Sleeping through a shoe to the face however is not so easy. Startled and a bit angered he quickly rouses from his sleep and stands to face his perceived attacker. Hearing the words of his old friend, Ort is taken aback. After a double take and rubbing his eyes to be sure of himself, he gently reaches down and picks up his small friend in a warm embrace. After a few moments he sets Edward back down on his feet light as a feather.

"Lil Ed! Never thought I would see you again my friend! What in the blue heavens are you doing down here? Last time I saw you ..."

Here Ort pauses as he reflects on times not only long gone but long forgotten.

"And what can be better than this? I live in a guarded stronghold were free food is served at my very room. Surrounded by the most interesting fellows one can find in this rotten city." Sais Edward with a smile while waving his hand to the other inmates.

"But I am really intrigued... how did the guard managed to catch you? And for how long are you exactly imprisoned?"

Lilella, sprawled out in the straw and dirt, quickly wipes her face to clear what might have been tears from her face, and raises her head to stare at Trent. She is immediately distracted by the sound of the guards retreating steps. She springs up, throwing dirt and straw in all directions, and storms to the cell door.

You can't leave me in here like that! Your lucky you had all your buddies to back you up! I could have taken you with one hand tied behind my back! She screamed down the hallway, furiously rattling the door. You better be glad I FEEL like staying the night here, or else you'd be in big trouble!

With that, she stomped over to the corner and flopped down to pout, facing away from the rest of the group. After several moments, she turned her head slightly to respond to Trent in elven, haltingly:
I, unfortunately, was raised by humans. I always wondered what it would be like to live among my own kind...

At this point Ort is stricken speechless as the elven terror that is now in the cell next to him gives the guards a good tongue lashing. Surprised and mildly amused ...

Whoa. Ya know I bet she really would give that guard a solid arse beating given half a chance! Truth is though, I turned myself in. I never thought I would be in here willingly. Edward is focused on the conversation with his old friend when the elf lady starts shouting to the guards, nothing uncommon in jail, but a detail picks his attention.

Did she say "if she FEELS like staying"? It could mean nothing, but it makes Edward notice her.
The other elven immate seems interested in her, and that's even rarer. Elves are scarce in Waterdeep, even more in prison, and they usually know eachother.

He pays no more attention to the lady as she seems to be affected by her imprisonment and continues talking with Ort.

"So you turned yourself in, that explains a lot. Well worry no more thug, now you are in Waterdeep, where nobody cares about your problems. Hahaha!" Edward starts laughting again, willingly trying to change the mood his friend has gone into. Edward doesn't really care about what he did, he knew Ort well enough to know he was trustworthy, whatever he did, was in the past.

In Orcish: "Well, you can stay here until they get tired of you, or you can come out with me when you get tired of them, heh." Edward learned Orcish from his butcher father and Ort was one of the very few people he knew that could speak it too, so it ended like a sort-of secret language between them. He was glad he could use it again, it had been ages since he used it for anything else than swearing. "Although I don't think it will take too long for them to get tired of your smell." Edward jokes.

The commotion perks Lilella's curiosity. She turns around to study the strange, bald headed human, wondering about the confused guard in front of him. She also examines the other inmates of the crowded cell. She noted Ort's pale green skin, whose size was a huge contrast to the obvious shortness of the small human beside him that seemed vaguely familiar.

Looking further back into the cell, she noticed Timmaus, still petting his rat, Jadzik, who seemed to be asleep, and shyly glanced over at Trent.

Coming to the conclusion that the group may not be staying in the jail cell very much longer, she resolutely stands and searches her cell for anything that might possibly be useful. If anything happens, I think it might be fun to follow them along. She smiles to herself.

Next she runs her fingers through her hair, and a small glint of silver flashes in her hands. The guards are distracted with the others now, so she slips up to the door of her cell and attempts to unlock it.

Ort notices that the guard is wearing padded leather armor with a wooden practice sword used to keep prisoners in line. The sword is dirty and covered with sweat and dried blood. He, like most guards here, wears the faded red padded armor with old leather pants. His armor has food stains on it. An old iron key dangles from a small chain looped around his belt.

The party watches in silence as Edward carefully undoes the guards belt, but as he tries to pull it out from the pants it catches and does not come sliding out. Edward drops the belt, still attached to the pants, and the pants come tumbling down to the floor exposing the guards genitals. At the same time you hear yelling from down the hall as the other guard shouts, "Who $€!# in my stew?" and you hear the clatter and screams of a wooden bowl being thrown into a nearby cell.

Edward's face darkens as he hears Ort asking about his mother. He doesn't know... oh sh-t. He frozens for a second, not sure how to go next, when the lady from the other cell speaks.

Edward sees it as a valid escape route. He fakes a big smile and turn to her. "How many incredibly talented, charismatic and handsome men you know by the name of Edward? I see my fame grows bigger everytime I meet a fan."
"I won't care about the night guards, they are usually too busy getting drunk to care what happens here. And as for the tricks, sure, I could teach you a couple..." Edward winks and smoochs his lips.
Hoping his comment would draw the attention elsewhere from Ort's mother, Edward yawns loudly and adds "I think it's time for some rest." He then takes the straw blanket he was sitting on, retires to a corner and lays down.

Knowledge local (DC 10)
This jail (where you are) is for petty criminals and those awaiting trial for crimes and theft. The violent criminals and those who the authorities are fearful of their intentions are jailed in one of the cities southern islands in the bay. The island is isolated with only access from a boat. It is illegal to enter that jail without a express permission from one of the lords. It is also said to have areas of deaf magic where spells and items cannot function. In theses areas that hold the worst of the prisoners. You are thankful you are not being held in that prison.

Jadzik (update: or Spot DC 15)
Knowledge gained during your meditation reflection that is relevant to the current discussion. On your way into the jail you noticed a grate that must lead into the sewers. The grate is in a long passageway a little ways from here. You think you heard water dripping from above so it must have been used as overflow from a fountain or street grate above. You did not see a passage way above so the overflow piping must be small but the grate is large enough for a typical sized person to slip through.

The guard quarters are located farther down the corridor before the holding the small processing cells. They are usually filled with several guards.

Additionally, this is only one of many hallways of cells. It is uncertain if there are multiple keys for different wings of the jail.

Lilella crawls over to the bars between her cell and the rest of the group with a mischievous smile. I disagree with you, friend. She whispers. I think that a nice distraction would work perfectly. So, here's what I think we should do... Her smile grows wider. We unlock all of the cells, cautioning the other prisoners to wait for the signal. We tell them we have to rush because not all of us will make it. This will cause them to stampede at the signal. We tell them the way out, though it isnt really the way out. We tell them the way to the guards quarters. Her eyes dance with excitement while she grins wickedly. In the meanwhile, we hold back, which won't be hard since we're in the last cells of the block. We then head for the nearest entrance to the sewers, while the others cause an uproar in the guards quaters.

She looks at the group. All we need to know is the way to the guards quarters, and the way to the nearest place we can get into the sewers. Her eyes move to Ort. I imagine that the sewer theives are pretty well informed, they may have some information for you, Ort, about your mother. She leans into the corner and sighs happily. This is the change I've been waiting for... a cause, I suppose.

Having been sitting quietly in his corner, Ort rouses somewhat at the thought of escaping and being able to find his mother. As he listens to the sounds of the other inmates around and the discussions of plans nearby, he contemplates possible outcomes. As, the female remarks on her thoughts, a plan is visioned in Ort's mind.

"The girl has a point. The best way for us to avoid add many guards as possible is to have them all occupied. Besides, my big clumsy self can't really sneak anywhere. There may be a problem though if anyone follows us or if one of the guards catches us. Plus we still need to find out exactly where or point of exit will be."

Actually that is a pretty good plan. I would change one detail. Instead of sending them to the guard room, lets show them the way out. With luck a few may get away. Instead of the guards looking inside for strays, they will have to give chase. Additionaly, this, way none will bear us ill will for sending them to a trap. Jadzik begins sketching a crude map by scraping the layer of filth on the floor. We can led them out this way, and once its clear use the grate right here to access the sewers. It looked easy enough to pop up.

After a few more moments of discussion Lilella opens her cell door and then unlocks the cell door where the rest of the party is located. Everyone quietly starts to whisper to the other cells about the plan. The other prisoners grin with excitement and start to run almost immediately after being released from their cells. By the time you let the last cell out the hallway is vacant. You can hear commotion down the long hallways as you realize the prisoners did not heed your advice and have gone in all directions trying to find their own way out. What has seemed like a good well thought out plan has turned into chaos as their instincts of self preservation, untrustworthiness, and revenge have taken over.

Lilella realizes that she no longer has the key as the group starts to make its way towards the sewer entrance. She is uncertain if she dropped it or if it was stolen. However, it is likely that it was stolen during the escape by one of the prisoners.

It does not take long to reach the iron grate leading to the sewers. Ort is able to rip the grate free from its holding. The rusted metal crumbles at the hinges allowing the gate to be completely removed. The tunnel below is dark and a fowl smells wafts from below.

You gently try to fall into the large pipe (jump/climb DC 10 for no dmg/1 dmg if unsuccessful). The floor is slippery with mold and grime. You make your way down the sloping tunnel towards what you hope is the sewers. The smell intensifies as you get closer.

The tunnel ends at an outlet where the tunnel pours into a large basin of sewage water and overflow from fountains. The stench is almost toxic. You carefully swing from the tunnel ledge onto a stone walkway to avoid falling into the watery pit (jump/climb DC 10 to avoid failing into the water).

As you regroup on the stone walkway in the sewer tunnels you see a shadow coming from an adjacent walkway that leads into this room. There is little time to hide (unless you jump into the water) before a large menacing figure comes from that passageway. A huge bugbear comes into the dimly lit room. He snarls before speaking in a gruff tone, "Who you be? You be in Snakrab domain and you must pay the fee for safe crossing. The fee be one silver each for safe crossing."

As your eyes adjust to the dim light you can see the bugbear has a drawn sword with notches in it that cause tearing in the flesh as it is removed. He is wearing leather armor that is stained with grime and dried blood.

This is so careless Edward thinks with his eyes wide open.

Lilella puts her new shiny coin in her pocket, keeping her hand in her pocket. She was amazed at how much more valuable the coin felt when she had no other coins. During her brief "joyride," stealing gold and jewels seemed to lower the value of the individual gold peices. She was not willing to give up this coin, or the new found appreciation of it, any sooner than she had to.

Thinking back on the bit of teamwork it took to get them out of jail, she knew that she owed the rest of the group. From the looks of the bugbear, and the speed at which he found them, she also realized that the tunnels must be swarming with Snakrab's lackeys, making it important for the safety of the group if they stay together. And important for me to stay in the center of the group to keep the dirty theives from stealing my gold peice back... She sighed, and immediately struggled not to gag from the stench permeating everything.

Stealing herself, She stepped forward to address the bugbear. She motioned to Edward: My friend here isn't the only one with talents. Perhaps there is something Snakrab needs doing in exchange for safe passage of the group? She smiles and winks at the bugbear, then casually studies her nails.

The bugbear leads the party though the tunnels and passages. The stench is overwhelming in areas of open water. You continue to cross sections of sewage water sometimes only supported by wooden planks. Finally, you reach what is sounds like commotion coming from a large room. The room is filled with different men and women of all kinds of races. However, you see many rat men or skaven, the creatures that live below within the sewers. Their rat faces are filled with hate and they hiss. You can pick out Snakrab easily; his towering body is filled with scars from fights. He stands in the center of the room facing a rat man who is shackled with stones around his feet and two human men hold his arms. The rat man's back is facing a large pool of sewage that continues into the distance. The smell in this room is almost unbearable but only you seem to notice.

Snakrab shouts at the rat man not even noticing you entering with the bugbear, "You Hazzen, have been charged with breaking the guilds tenants, you have not only stolen from me, but from all of us..." Snarls and shouts fill the room as he continues, "We can no longer trust you and for your punishment you are to die, may the god of the rogue watch over your soul!" With a fast movement he draws his short sword and punches into the rat man's chest and the two men holding the creature toss it into the sewage. The creature screams with pain before being silenced as it falls deep into the water with a loud splash.

Snakrab then turns towards the bugbear and seeing new faces he growls, "What did you bring me here? Escaped prisoners? Someone looking for some coin?" He licks his lips and continues, "I dear say they look delightful. Mayhaps they could not pay the toll to cross the tunnels and have to work off their debt? Me thinks they can be of use....would you kill for safe passage? One of my men has left our services in hopes of living his life on the docks. Now looking into Snakrab's bloodthirsty face, she couldn't imagine what to do other than to agree and hope to escape later. She remains silent, hoping her group would make the dreaded decision, while attempting to determine if Snakrab is up to any trickery, which, undoubtedly, he is.

Oh Mighty Emperor Snackrab, it is unthinkable that she would even be able to dull your mighty blade, but the easily fooled citizens of Waterdeep believe her! Even now you are the common joke in the taverns. Don't allow this wench to continue to trod upon your mighty name! Now is the time to strike, and strike true with all your mighty forces, before she has time to mobilize! You will sweep over her like a mighty wave, leaving nothing behind! You must show the citizens of Waterdeep once and for all who is truly to be feared in the night! Sweat beads on her brow from the "righteous" rage she has whipped herself up into. I don't like this, I don't like this at all. For the price of a silver we are heading to very much our death. Valthellis is well known for her power in the docks. This guy is probably there hiding from Snakrab under her protection.
We are being completelly used for provoking Valthellis without Snakrab making an official move... "... and who wants to join this crap band of losers anyway." thinks Edward aloud and continues mumbling grumbles a couple of minutes more.

The bugbear turns and leads you out of the large room. Trent sees many broken and discarded objects along the path, much looks like junk than anything worthwhile. Upon reflection, he is not surprised that there is little of worth scattered around, this is the sewer and the inhabitants of Snakrab's gang are petty criminals without out much coin or belongings. Most of the men in the room had little possessions on them but sewage stained clothing and maybe a knife (made out of metal if they were lucky).

The pathway twists and turns through several tunnels; it was easy to get lost if one is not playing close attention to detail. Finally, the bugbear reaches a grate at the end of one tunnel. He pushes it open with a grunt and turns to the party, "Here you go, freedom. When you find the man, bring him to any sewer entrance, we will find you and bring you all to Snakrab..." His voice trails off with an indifference. He turns and walks back into the dimly lit sewers.

You look outside of the grate, it is raining heavily you can hear it pattering against wood near by. It is still night outside and this tunnel exits below the docks. The tide is out in the bay allowing for an exit from this tunnel. You see areas where you could climb up the dock supports to the boardwalk above (DC 10).

Lilella shyly thanks Trent, turning to address Edward. If we would be so lucky as to avoid the notice of the Wharfrats while we cross their board walk, I would be happy to sleep in an alley way. Something tells me Valthellis won't miss noticing us cross her turf. She casts a sideways glance at Ort.

What does the group wish to do? We need to figure this out before we attempt to cross the docks, or else we might have trouble. Personally, for some reason a group of fishy pirate wanna-be's are more appealing than a bunch of poopy rats. What exactly does anyone know about Valthellis? "Let's go now, we will figure out what to do after that."

Edward starts walking without talking much. He leads the way the best he can to avoid problems using his knoweledge of the city, he walks about 20 feet before anyone else so he can check obstacles better. At a certain point he crosses through the west graveyard as if it were a shorcut. Suddenly he stops, making a signal for the group to stop. "Ort, come here."

It sounds like the ones were after was those stinking rats in the sewers, we could go hang out in one of the tunnels and pick them off, the guard obviously never goes down there. Once we're done, we can skip out of town till the guard finds someone else to worry about. Any ideas on where we can get weapons and armor?

The warehouse is owned by a man who just about everyone in the docks refers to as "the old bastard." He is a disorganized wealthy man who runs the warehouse which supplies many shoppes and stalls around the city. He is tough on thievery but if you can manage to get a box or two then it is generally worth your while. This is because the boxes have assortments of many different things all mashed together. A sword might be mixed with an assortment of dresses and stale bread. The problem is that the place is usually heavy guarded (especially at night) and workers are busy transporting and determining the contents of the disorganized boxes.

As you approach the old bastard's warehouse, you notice that a small shipment of boxes is being unloaded from a small cart. Many of the workers and guards are trying to keep out of the rain and only a few are actually unloading the cart. You can see that at least one box is left on the cart as a few men are discussing something in a covered overhang a little ways away from the cart. The men are about 20 feet from the cart.

The cart itself is a hand cart with two large wheels and is meant to be pushed or pulled. The cart is propped up against a wooden block to keep is upright.

Ort sleeps fairly close to the goblins in case they decide to make a break for it in the night. As the morning comes and members of the group start to stir, Ort eventually wakes up. As he first opens his eyes, he notices Lilella across the room just then standing up and seeming to tuck something into her clothing. He thinks little of it at the time as so far, she seems to have gathered quite a few possessions. As he stretches and rubs his eyes to fully awaken, he remembers the small goblins. After Lilella and Edward leave, he decides to have another small chat with the goblin he spoke to the night before.

"Good morning my little captive intruder. I hope you slept well. It seems that I may have an opportunity for you two. You like coin, and for your services I can provide that. Also, should you decide to work for me for a bit, I may even be able to get that nasty Snakrab and those ugly rat creatures off your back. For now though,.just sit tight. I will have to discuss the matter with my friends. Also, you will have to prove we can trust you. However, if you play smart, I could be the best boss you have ever had.

With that, Ort sets about straightening up the house as best he can until the others return. Once he has accomplished as much cleaning as he can manage, Ort turns his attention to the brooch given to him by Lilella. He studies it for some length of time before recalling the night he left. After repeating the events out loud to whoever was caring to listen, he neatly stowes the brooch into his clothing as best he could. Afterwards, he stands up and walks to the door and peers out through the rain asst his old neighborhood.

The goblin nods in agreement to his proposed but yet vague plan. He seems to nod back to sleep now that he is still tied up but the majority of the party has left.

Party

Lilella carefully moves into position and pull on the box but notices that it will not budge. She then quickly looks and sees that the box's rope handle is tied to another rope securing it to the rear of the cart. She can see that the knot is wet and likely stuck preventing this box from being removed during the unloading of the cart. The rope looks sturdy but old covered with grime and is likely been used many times for securing boxes into the cart. Other untied ropes also hang on the back side of the cart.

The box itself is nailed shut making unloading it from within the cart problematic. The box has been painted with the symbol of the old bastard's warehouse - a fox head within the letter "U".

The box does not break upon falling. It is a securely nailed up box but when it did fall you heard the faint clinking of metal.

Fredrick falls into unconscious and stops struggling. His body has little of value on it. He has a well finished bat (club: 1d6) attached to his belt. Additionally, he has a small coin sack with 10 copper pieces. You leave his unconscious body in the alley and start your way back.

You make it back to Ort's house after a few moments. The goblins are still tied up - one is still unconscious and the other is sleeping.

It takes a bit to pry open the box but after a few moments and some leverage you are able to remove the top side of the box. Inside the box it contains:

"You are way too impacient. And just why do you want to kill the goblins? I like green people." Edward pats smells funny head and frowns in an exagerated sad face.

"Also, we don't know who or why killed Ort's mother, the goblins just said something about a woman but we can't be sure about it. Unless Ort is defferent from what he used to be, I bet he want's to find both the hand who killed her and the voice who gave the order and kick both to bone-pulp."

Something crosses Edward's head and asks Jadzik "Why are you in such a hurry? What does Jadzik want to do?"

Wooooooh.... calm down there. I said give them their shivs and send them on there way. As for why I'm always in a hurry. Because I'm not a d**n elf. Life is short, so why sit around waisting it. Snakrab pissed me off with his attitude down in the sewers, and it doesn't hurt the cause that it would likely improve the city with him being gone.

I'm not saying I'm not open to other ideas. I'm just saying we have a lot to do, and we still have half a day. When Lilella gets back with some chow, we should knock out a plan and get to work. But until then, these two did nothing but sleep in the wrong place, so I say we let them go.

Lil' Edward

After having some food, Edward decides to go get some info about how the gangs situation is seen by the rest of the town.
"I'll be back in an hour."

He goes to the Rusted Nails Inn, a place he oftens goes to when he needs to sell other people's goods, eat something disgusting or get the latest news.

-"Hi Garrold, is Gretta arround."
-"Do I look like a man who needs to know where his mother is?"

Garrold was a good boy for Waterdeep standars. He would probably be in prison in any other town. Gretta was the pwned of the Rusted Nails, she was as old as dead tree and wearing the same bark as skin, but she still had that innate talent of female innkeepers to know everything about everyone everywhere.

"I'll wait a bit, i need to talk to her."
Edward grabs a beer and sits. While waiting for Gretta to show up he open his ears and absorbs as much information as he can. It never hurts to hear something interesting.

Gretta shows her toothless grin after making Edward wait for a while. She waddles over in a blood soaked apron - she was one who loved to butcher her own meat despite her old age. She slides over a bowl of stew, "It's rat stew but me tell them it is wild turkey. Them sorry bastards don't know the difference and neither do you." She waits for Edward to take a large spoonful, "It's on the house, specially since i heard you be dead." She waits for a reaction from Edward before continuing, "Word on the street is that you and some other cellies were killed in the jail uprising. I heard there were several deaths but no escapes. I would keep me head down if me were you. You don't want to get them angry you escaped - at least until they forget you. That the biggest new lately, prices have been high due to thieves at the docks. Looks like two gangs are fighting for turf there. There is no spark but there is plenty of lamp oil spread around. I would watch yourself down there. You might get burned. The watch has been focused on keeping the peace there but if there is trouble then there might be a big fight with the watch joining. That be bad for business - for me and you both. You got any silver to sell me - i could use some new pretty pieces. If you get any soon I be a buyer but i don't pay high prices...but you remember that."

Lil' Edward

Edward can't hide a smile when he sees the old hag. She looks as gross as always but being raised by a butcher as he was he finds it even cute.
Edward tastes the stew. "Best rat ever, Gretta, as always"

"It's on the house, specially since i heard you be dead."
"I hear the same about you everytime you oversleep, someday it will be true." jokes.

"Word on the street is that you and some other cellies were killed in the jail uprising."
"Everytime they kill a kid, a halfling or a dwarf they want to say they killed Lil' Edward. They weren't even close."
Edward laments to hear the death news. He did not like most of the people who were there that day, but most of them didn't deserve to die. But as news go, they could all have escaped and the guards are pulling out a big bluff here to hide their incompetence.

"I heard something similar about the gangs, I will try to do something about it. If you happen to hear anything about a sewer refugee in the docks, let me know." Edward stands up and prepares to leave.
"Next time I see you I will bring you some jewelry that matches your beauty, some road rock or something. Thanks Gretta." Edward smiles a last time and winks at Gretta as he leaves.

...
He joins the others at Ort's house and share the news.
"It seems they declared us dead, but the news are still fresh. I think we should hide for a while, even if that kills Jadzik."
"That, or find good disguises. but I don't like the idea of going arround looking like a begger kid."

A few days pass quickly with only short breaks outside to get some more food or to hear if there are any new rumors. The house is starting to feel clean and the goblins have proven trustworthy at least not to be tied up all the time. They adequately clean when directed and watched but still show signs of not really caring. It is easy to see that they are not happy as prisoners but they do not seem to be resentful or hostile either. They are less than helpful when it comes to knowledge on the city or the latest rumors. Rather, they know even less than you do despite being locked up.*

It is finally night and you are starting to feel that the heat from the prison escape has faded a bit and likely the guards have shifted their attention to other stressors within the city. You are also starting to feel restless as to where you should go now.*

Ok... It's been the better part of a week. How long do we need to wait here? Whats the plan? I said we should bruse up a few rats and see where that takes us. Most of you know the city better though. Where do we go from here? It will never be 100% safe. At some point we just need to move on... to move forward.

Personally, I'd like to get out of the city and see some of the world. But we need money to buy supplies, and I don't see any of us getting a job anytime soon. If we're going to steal, who better to steal from than thieves? And if we manage to get some closure for Ort in the process, all the better. I think it's time to go see the leader of the wharf rats, and see what she knows.

"I agree that it would be nice to get out of the city again. Now that my ma is gone, there is little left here for me. Before I go however, there is some unfinished business. I will find my mothers killer. I think we should indeed take a trip to see the dock gang leader. If w have to pick a side, I would rather be with them than Snakrab. And hopefully it will give us a chance to clean this town up some and with the loot we confiscate, we can get outfitted properly in the process. So, who's in? I say we start tonight."

You had been sending one of the goblins out to get water from the nearby fountain. It was an easy task and they had shown their trust not to wander off. However, you grew concerned after one did not show up for almost an hour. The one goblin with you was also concerned. Before, you can launch much of a search party to go looking for him you hear a loud knock at the door. Ort opens it slowly and in the dim candle light you see blood on the door and as you look down you notice the decapitated head of the goblin. There are deep scratches in the goblins dead face. You think you see shadows of those who might have done this but you are not sure. The streets are empty. You follow a bit of a blood trail but it only leads to the fountain where you see the goblins body floating in the shallow fountain.

They would have been hunted anyway, remember? They quit working for one gang to work for another. Lilella growls. No one hurts my friends and gets away with it.

She stands up, checking to see that the dagger is still hidden in her clothes, and hides the shank in her clothing as well, glaring at anyone who glances her way. She grabs the loop of rope that she had been playing with the past few days and loops it shoulder-to-hip around her body. Then she asks Ort to pass her the remaining dagger and short-sword, strapping their scabbards around her waist. Considering herself armed to the teeth, she turns to the rest of the group. I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to go rip someone to pieces, as well as everyone who stands between me and them. I want the person who did this, as well as the person who gave the order, eating cold steal before breakfast. Lilella starts for the door.

The poor bastard's only ambishion was to earn enough coin for some drinks, a warm bed, and a sword. These two have been good to us. We should have gave them a beer and a blade and sent them back to thier clan.

In any case, someone knows that we're here. If they were only after the gobos they would have come in after Smelly as well.

You find yourselves near the fountain where the goblin's body still floats in the darkness. It is strange that you see no people about but then again you can almost smell the fresh blood of the dead goblin. Thankfully, it was just a goblin and you know the city watch will not investigate nor will they clean up the mess. Smells Funny starts to speak, "He no smartest or strongest but did he fight before he died." He looks around scanning the darkness, while clenching the bone knife, looking for something that may help him locate the killer.

Lilella paces next to the well angrily. The sight and smell of the goblins bloody body infuriated her. They had a point though, she wasn't strong enough to take on the whole sewer rat population. Fine. But we better get somewhere quick, that wasn't the last message they are going to send, and their probably watching us right now. Lets go to this wharf rat gang then, right now. You head down to the docks it's quiet and rain starts to gently fall on your heads. Edward leads you around the warehouses, you can feel eyes on you in the shadows, it feels like someone is always watching you. The goblin tags closely to Lilella as if he is hoping that she will protect him from any harm. Edward stops at the entrance to a pier. Two large thugs stand next to a gang plank of a ship moored at this pier for a long time. Hiding in plain sight was one way this guild survived. The thugs look at you, you can see their are armed with large maces. "Open water with a gray sky, to whom shall we pray." The protecting thugs present a pass code for you to answer in to show if you are a friend to the guild.

All the way to the docks Lilella was thinking about Lumpy. It had to have been one of those #@!$ Ratmen, especially with those deep scratches on his body. I'll make sure those yellow-bellied lowlifes pay.

Upon reaching the guards, She waited, wondering if anyone knew the password. Thoughts of Lumpy's bloody body was making her vision go red around the edges. When no one responded, she pushed her way to the front of the group. Take us to Valthellis. We have some information about of Snakrab's plans she may find useful. She said forcefully, trying to keep her anger under control. She subconsciously reaches behind her protectively to make sure Smells Funny is right behind her.
