Hello, long time lurker, first time poster.
I am currently playing in a 3.5 campaign as a lvl 1 barbarian. I am using the handle animal skill to train a dog as my pet / attack dog. While I am aware of the rules for a Druid/ Ranger animal companion and hit dice advances, how would a non companion animal which participates in combat with me advance? Would it be able to gain hit dice, or become useless as I level? Appreciate answers in advance!
