View Full Version : Digimon World, what's next?

I have to say that my favorite game for the original Playstation (and still one of my favorite games of all time) was the original Digimon World.

Now here was a game that I personally felt started the revolutionary idea of having both a working clock and a progressing calendar that differentiated what creatures you encountered and what events were unlocked (Pokemon: Gold and Silver had a clock but it came out after the original Digimon World).

But what I really loved about the game (aside from seeing what my Digimon would evolve into) was how you started out in this crappy little crackerjack town and with time and effort you could recruit new Digimon to the town. These Digimon would then take residence in existing buildings to provide services or would make their own brand new buildings for their services.

So you would go from just having a farm for food to having a massive farm, a bank, a 4 star restaurant, a little hobby shop, a coliseum, a hospital, a pristine fountain and even an air port!

This is a feature the later games sadly abandoned.

So, the purpose of this thread, other than to get nostalgia all over everything, is for me to ask:

Which of the Digimon Worlds do you believe is closest to the original?
Are there any other monster raising games you all can think of that are similar to the unique (albeit glitch ridden) game play of the original Digimon World?

First of all, I point you in the direction of Digimon World Re:Digitize (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keZxXtPZT3A), a new game built in the same model of the original Digimon World. Apart from that one, which will likely never see an English release, I don't think there's any games that come close to the original's play style. I still play Digimon World today despite its numerous flaws simply because it's a whole little genre to itself.

I...I now have a reason to actually own a PSP. I need to go set up a shrine towards this being translated and released state-side.

When you play Digimon World, how do you go about raising a good champion? I keep trying to raise my guys stats but he tires out real fast and it seems like I only get a day or three out of him for actually completing objectives compared to how long I needed to work at raising his stats to be able to meet those objectives.

This was asked in a PM, but I figure I'll answer it here in case anyone else is interested. In the spoiler box below is a record I kept of the first eleven-and-a-bit days of gameplay, so one could get a feel for how I go about raising a Digimon.

From here I'd probably spend a day or two trying to pick up some better moves, like Megaton Punch, then go after Ogremon, Birdramon, Otamamon, maybe Meteormon.
