Hello all,

Recently started a campaign where I will be playing an Artificer who interacts with the party exclusively through minions/constructs/what have you. (Yes, I am receiving exp through this participation)

Is there any way to do some sort of permanent telepathy or communication between me and my field agent?

Any tips on making my secret base and such would help too.

Starting lvl 8, pretty much straight Artificer, going for a crafting build.

I'm trying not to overshadow the party because I'm a heavy min-maxer among a bunch of new players.

A homunculus (the MM version) has telepathy towards its creator, and always conveys everything it sees and hears. You could have it ride on the back of whatever other construct you want, and have it relay your commands. Sadly, you're limited to being 1500 feet away from the homunculus at all times.

At first I was thinking of doing that with a raven familiar or something, but even those are limited to 1 mile. And I'm not even sure if an artificer qualifies for Obtain Familiar.

The psionic Mind Link is perfect, but it has a duration :small frown:

The best I got so far is teleporting my construct back and forth to refresh the link, but that could be potentially expensive.

FOUND IT.

Improved Homunculus allows you to extend the telepathy to 1 mile/level of the creator.

Not perfect, but its a decent amount of distance.

The Telepathic Bond spell works over any distance and can be made permanent with Permanency. Would that work?

I think telepathic bond takes the cake. Looks like there are interplanar versions too.

Somewhat annoys me that a 5th level spell is a 1st level power but meh.

Now I just have to craft an item of Greater Teleport for my homunculus to travel back and forth between the party and my stronghold.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Could you use ring gates for that?
