View Full Version : 3.5 Magic Armor/Shield/Weapon Hardness/HP

In looking at the SRD and my DMG I'm seeing the paragraph talking about the enhancement bonus of a shield improving it's Hardness/HP (+2/+10 respectively per enhancement bonus).

Then, under weapons there's a contradicting statement where it says each +1 enhancement bonus of a weapon or shield adds +1 to the items Hardness/HP.

There's no such statement I can find regarding armor anywhere. I'm hoping this was covered by some errata, but I cant access errata atm so I'm looking for someone to help clear this up for me.

Can you say where you spot the contradiction on the SRD? I just checked Magic Shields (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/magicArmor.htm), Magic Weapons (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/magicWeapons.htm), and Magic Armor, Shields & Weapons (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/exploration.htm#magicArmorShieldsandWeapons) in the Exploration section, and didn't see a contradiction. (I don't have access to my PH or DMG at the moment.)

You may be having trouble finding an info about Armor because it can't normally be Sundered or the like, but the info is given on the Table (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/exploration.htm#smashinganObject), involving a little bit of calculation for any particular set of Armor.

Ah, I couldn't find magical armor hardness or HP bonuses for enhancements in SRD so I checked the DMG. DMG has the discrepancy in the Shield Hardness and HP and the Weapon Hardness and HP.

The scenario in question involves the Bebelith's ability to damage armor. We'll probly just use the +2 Hardness/+10 HP per enhancement for armor I guess.

There was errata, at least for the shield problem.


Hardness and Hit Points
Dungeon Master’s Guide, page 222
Problem: The first paragraph is not consistent with similar information for shields on page 217.
Solution: Delete the first sentence after the boldface header. Change the next sentence to read as follows: Each +1 of enhancement bonus adds 2 to a weapon’s or shield’s hardness and +10 to its hit points.
